Subject: Sad News

I am deeply saddened to report that former hoops player Marvin Walters '90, was killed in a robbery on Saturday night. Marvin was living in Phoenix Az with his wife and 3 young kids. He was helping out a friend who owned a few convenience stores by filling because the store was shorthanded. A robber came into the store - Marv tried to subue him and was shot in the process. No arrangements have been made as of yet.

What a shame! Walter was good guy. From my interactions with him during my time at Fairfield, he had a quiet confidence, but, he always took the time to say a friendly hello. And he just had a sense of determination about him both on and off the court. This is a great loss to the Fairfield community. RIP Marvin.

I also knew Marvin, and as Stagophile says he always took time to say hello, and was always sincere in doing so. I am very saddened. The last I knew, Marvin had been very successful in the business world. If I am not mistaken, I think at one time he had been a manager for a friend who had played in the NBA (I think Pooh Richardson). I also believe he was involved with the Harlem Globetroters a fews years ago. My greatest memory of him as a player was hitting a half court shot at Manhattan to beat the Jasper's at the buzzer!
