I was not at the scrimmage, but this is what I heard 2nd hand:

- the scrimmage was only 1Q (10 minutes of game clock time with stoppages)

- Reedal was impressive playing an all-around game.... a nice pass in traffic, swishin nice jumper off a quick pass from Han. Just good basketball instincts.

- Han looked very good, especially when team was on the run. Good court vision, and some more no look passes.

- Middleton and Hawkins looked better thatn last scrimmage, especially on the boards

- Todd looked very good again.

- Herbie had a good game. Stealing the ball on "D", and driving the lane.

- Mamadou flashing to the hoop again for boards and points. Looked very good.

- Oglesby had a tough night shooting.

The others played as expected. But according to my souurce reedal was the player that stood out the most over last scrimmage.

J.S., your second hand informer was pretty accurate. Reedal played very well (I counted 3 exceptional passes which drew quite a response from the crowd). Herbie played much better than the previous week, using his speed and sharp ballhandling to get to the basket. As a team, the passing was about as good as I can remember in a long time in this type of scrimmage. The team defense needs a lot of work, as there were many drives to the basket without enough intimidation. The rebounding effort was good. Not sure if a recruit was there.

It seems the strength of this team is passing with Han, MOS and Reedal having a special talent. And when you got 2 big guys like Mos and Reedal that can pass, that could be a key.

The defense still worries me. I am not expecting intimidation this year but I do expect us to draw some offensive fouls. And maybe play a bit rough if someone comes down the lane...... Maybe not in an intrasquad scrimmage, but in a real game I would like to see us take the additude of "no easy baskets" ..... put them to the line, if we cant get offensive position.

Nashville, whats your read. Can Reedal start or get signigicant minutes at PF??????

Joe, interesting questions. From what I have seen so far he should definitely get significant minutes, especially if he can do a decent job of playing defense, and boxing out and getting rebounds. Experience may preclude him from starting right away, but there is no question that he has a great feel for the game, which really helps the team in its offensive flow.

The team overall was much better than i expected. MD will be a nice add on in december. MOS looks totally different, dunking the ball with ease and looks ready to go. JON HAN is very good, really a old school type player. TT is very talented and MB is solid. GM is a major question mark and the other new players are to green to tell. DO and MVS need to be more consistent. By the end of the season this team will have a good chance to win the Maac tourney.

It looks likely that MOS will start and get significant minutes at one frontcourt position. But who do you think is currently in the lead to the other minutes at the other Froncourt position in 1st semester:

- Carter
- Middelton
- Reedal
- Hawkins
- One of the Guards???

Joe, you have it in the exact order. AC, GM.JR and NH. Big GEOFF has to step up or it is going to be tough until MD or MAX returns.

Carter has had 2 solid outings in teh scrimmages, and has improved. His stregth, expereince and leadership cannot be matched by the other players competing for PT at PF. Right now it looks like he is in the lead to start in Max's position.

And I agree Middleton is the player that we need to step-up, but from perfomances it seems like Reedal has surprised, and seems like he can play PF at least offensively. And he is another player that can make other players better. But I think ther is still the open question if he can defend at the 4. But if he can, it could make it very interesting.

Middleton has to make plays on defense and rebounding. He does that and he will get his minutes.

I have not seen enough of Hawkins or got enough feedback on him, but I do think he has a role because of his strength and size. I think he moves well, and runs well for his size, but would just like to see more agressive play....... throwing around that 250lbs a little more But he is a frosh so, improvement is what is needed.

Both REEDAL and HAWKINS were both smaller than I expected. JR could help a little, but HAWKINS is nowhere near ready.
