In reply to: R U serious 's message, "C'mon guys" on 02:20:24pm 01/12/06 Thu,

Sad to hear that the "recent alumnus" has so little interest in Fairfield b-ball. He truly missed out on a great experience as a lot of us have had at AH and even some exciting games(both men and women) at AHY. Granted the "Home team" atmosphere is not the same at AHY but for us alumni fans it is all about the Stags.

One of the priorities of any athletic/marketing plan has to be a way of reconnecting with the current student body so as not to have such attitudes as the "recent alumnus". The current students will be alumni one day and the University needs to stay connected to them somehow.

Despite the angry-dog attitude of R U, I think this attitude is very difficult to shed at the mid-major level. When I was in Manhattan, I didn't go to many basketball games, even though my roommate was on the team. I was more interested in my own sport, and what my friends were doing. Unless hoops becomes "the thing to do" like football at a BCS school, you'll find this apathy. I myself became more interested in the basketball team as an alum.

Fairfield has some great advantages. I like AHY. Great campus, great academics. A lot to attract the right types of players. When Fairfield's back on top, it'll be more fun for you guys, but the regular posters here know as well as I do that at our level, you live for the chance to make an occasional big splash. That chance to win a first round NCAA game, or a couple of NIT games, is what makes this FUN.

Of course, I think R U needs to learn that the world doesn't revolve around his little corner of the world. There is something worthwhile about a school that plays Division I, but strikes a balance with other aspects of college. That's the world of the MAAC.
