What bothers me about TOT's comments is the implication that there is some defensive scheme in place but that the players are not implementing it properly. I guess that for the last eight years our inability to stop scoring from the arc is directly attributable to the players' not being able to be focused enough to do what the coaching staff wants. Eight years and they have not learned. I guess that their basketball acumen is quite low. Right, coach?

RM,

Anytime people quote trends, I always like to see if the Stats back them up..... its human nature ever since I took a Research Analysis class a few years ago. Here are the FG% that our opposition shot and our ranking in the MAAC.

2005-06...... 41.5%......10th
2004-05...... 35%......8th
2003-04...... 35%......6th
2002-03...... 31%......1st
2001-02...... 34%......5th

From these numbers we had one excellent season, 2 mid level season and the last 2 have been poor. But this year, in particular, has been worse than just poor..... it is way out of the norm of acceptable. To allow 41.5% from the arc goes way beyond just a defensive scheme. Its all about fighting thru picks, being physical, being focused, drawing offensive charges, and having the physical talents of quick feet, quick hands and length in height or long
arms.

IMO, TOT is not getting the most out of his players, as I see very few offensive charges, or enough physical play by the guards. And I while I think he has focused his practices on defense, I do not believe he has played his best defensive players or line-up. IMO, that is not a good message to send.

I think it is a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.

If they come out aggressively to defend the three pointer, they get killed inside without a player like Gai to defend the paint.

If they don't come out aggressively and lay back to help defend the paint, they leave the opponent wide open for 3's.

Not having an inside presence is a killer. It's nice to see TOT going after some good guards but if he doesn't bring in some quality big men, they're in trouble.

We're fortunate that most MAAC teams don't have good big men. That's why this team still has a shot of being .500.

Just imagine what they could do if they had a couple of good big men.

I'd rather give up 2 than 3.
