In reply to: FU73 's message, "Negative publicity" on 05:37:14pm 01/15/06 Sun,

The problem is very basic. We are in a "tweener" market, with no BB tradition, and an under resourced half baked marketing effort. One question I have is why do we average more per game at HY than we did at AH? No matter how you slice it, if you have a nice comfortable, easily accesible venue with a winning team, they will come. IT's all about VALUE. And the students are great.

But lets face it, in a school with 3000 kids the most you can hope for during the regular season is about 1000 on a great night (and during vacation its about 0). That means you need to get the community interested. We need a FULL TIME body to work on this. Don't give me the agency nonsense because someone needs to manage them and the total marketing effort on a full time basis with some real marketing saavy. (That means you have to pay them!!!!)

Next problem is coverage. NO RESPECT from the Hartford and NH stations and totally ignored in NYC

You can't blame Mike and the Dog either. I remember some very nice comments from them when we have WON. Like in 97 v. NC. You can't buy the publicity they give us and, good or bad, at least someone in a major market is talking about Fairfield (is that in NJ?)

So there you go, the Church may have cancelled Limbo but we are still stuck in it. Can we buy some indulgences. Father vonA ? We need your position and ACTION quickly, before someone else claims LIMBO.

I agree Stagman. Mid major basketball is just that (Mid Major Basketball). People in FFLD County don't get jacked to go see FFLD. play. As a season ticket holder (2 tickets) some games I can't find anyone to go to the game. The games that I've missed because of conflicts I can't give the tickets away. Other than the passionate posters here and a small core group of season ticket holders there is no fan base. Is there at other mid major programs? Outside of the Gonzagas, St. Joes, Siena (when they're winning) etc. We are all in the same boat. This argument is constantly on this board and I'd be the first to admit I'd love to see 5,000-6,000 every game. But it isn't happening. 2 or 3 years of 20 win seasons back to back to back, a couple of Maac crowns and NCAA appearances and the fans will come. It's all about consistent winning plain and simple. Believe me, the ticket prices in FFLD County are not too high. If they were cut in half you would not see a huge spike in attendence. The marketing has not been as bad as everyone thinks. This year every week there are large advertisements in the CT. Post, there was a large billboard on 95 near the arena and there has been TV spots during commercials of ESPN games. People in FFLD County have too many other things to do then go to a FFLD. game on a Tuesday or Friday night. One suggestion is to start the games earlier. All week day games are at 7:30. Why not 7:00 like many other MAAC teams. People aren't bringing young kids to a 7:30 Tuesday night game. Also, the 12/9 Loyola game (Fri. night) tipped at 8:30 or 9:00PM. The Friday Jan. 27 Manhattan Game tips at 8:30 and the Sat. Feb. 25th Marist games tips at 9:00PM. Families with small kids are all but eliminated from these games. These are perfect family games that should be able to draw 4-5K. But not at a 9:00PM tip off. Most people in FFLD county are snoozing on their couch by this time.

Another "spot on" analysis. Why can we all see it and no one on the FU side understand it? I'll give you the answers: ego, lack of leadership, strategic vision and plan. It's about time we hear from someone in charge who can do something before they lose us too!
