Subject: Rider Report from Lawrenceville

The story from this game is we traded our 3-pointers to their FT's.... the math works out pretty good. We had the lead for most of the game ranging from 11 points to 2 points.

Best offensive perfomance of the year. Todd was outstanding making some dominate moves and finishing. I Also saw he had 6 assists for a very good game. He did force some shots, but he also had to take some shots late in the shot clock. His agressiveness on the offensive end, created opportunities for others.

Herbie not only had a great shooting game, but his overall floor game is coming around. Very quick, and he created some good opportunites. Hits the game winner down the stretch..... I think I now see why they say he can be another Terrance Todd.

MVS also goes 5 of 8 from threeland. But he made the 2nd most important shot besides Herbie's. With Rider cutting the Stag lead down to 2 and Todd missing on the last 2 possessions.... Rider had Momentum and we were looking for another scorer. Well, MVS came right down cout and fired it up right in someones face, and early in the shot clock. I have not seen MVS show that much confidence in a clutch situation...... Keep it coming MVS.

Michael Bell struggled shooting to start the game, but came out red hot the 2nd half. Good to see that he still kept the confidence to shoot.

Only 3 baskets by the 4-headed frontcourt of Max-Mama-Middle-Carter.... but they were focusing on trying to defend Thompson and Muniz. They stuggled with trying to cover both, resorting to fouling. Their defensive needs to improve, but at least they were aggressive using their fouls. Carter wa geeing beat because of lack of height, While Middleton was gettng beat becasue lack of quickness. Max is struggling overall as he is out of sync with his reaction time, and not handling rebounds cleanly. looks like after 2 very good games, rust has set in the last 2. Diakhate started but got quick fouils. He might be better coming off the bench as his agressivenss is leadnig to fouls.

IMO, each player has to better themselves with individual defensive techniques and drawing offensive fouls. With continued work on this, if we can improve a bit we can be dangerous because of our shooting.

more from new jersey

TOT switched to a half cout defense---no easy layups resulting from a broken press

rotation was not like a merry go round, guys could settle in and play for a while . changes that resulted in the win

our defense was not bad---they scored with size that led to
many ( made ) foul shots

good report by joe stag

with all due respect to max, he was fighting all night with 2 guys at once, both bigger than him, but not in the heart.

it was a total team effort with terrance creating some great moves
to score when a hoop was a must,

Hahn, and MVS were very good & Herbie would not, and could not miss.-----a huge 3 late in the game , that was a must.

a crowd of 20 assorted relatives and fans shut down the 980
bronc fans----

Did Diakhate suffer an injury? Why only 8 minutes?

No injury to Mamadou, as far as I could tell. As previously stated, he got two quick fouls, was replaced, and things were going well as is, hence not much further PT. As Bridgeport stated, we were not in any full court trapping all night. This made Rider have to work more for their scores, and in my opinion was the most important stategy switch from previous games. Also, we played some combo man to man and zone at same time, which seemed to confuse the Broncs a little. The reason they scored so much is the foul shots they got, which stopped the clock as they were racking up the points. Although the frontcourt players didn't score much, they did play very hard in battling with Rider's talented and large forwards, and certainly should not be overlooked in their contribution to the win. That said, the guards, especially Terrence, Herbie, and MVS were unbeleivable in their shooting, and that obviously is the biggest reason why we won!

I would also add that we played them more straight up rather than using a lot of help defense, especially when the ball went inside. We only doubled down low as a surprise tactic, not as a Standard Operating Procedure. However, Todd's late game steal was off a double down low.

I also agree that our frontcourt players really battled, and I like that we fouled instead of giving up an easy baskets. All 4 frontcourt players were in foul trouble at one time or another, so while it doesn't show in the stats, I thought the frontcourters battled and made plays at critical times.

Rider's frontcourt tandem of Thomson and Muniz is pretty good.

Funny that we didn't foul at the end of the game last night- up 3 with about 7 secs left. We didn't foul against Loyola, it didn't work. We did foul against Siena, it did work (even though I didn't agree with it). Last night we were up by 3 and didn't foul and it worked. I guess we have no strategy for that situation?! I know Rider got a 3 off, but hard to tell via radio if it was a good shot.

Go Stags!

The last three attempt was well defended, and never looked like it would go in.
