The Ak Attack: All I want for Christmas
By: Bill McBain

During the holidays, we often look to the less fortunate, look to give a little more, or put others before ourselves. However, at the same time we all get a little greedy for those holiday gifts and wishes. So in keeping with the holiday spirit, here are my top 10 holiday wishes for Fairfield athletics:

10. A Sold Out Game at Harbor Yard: The curtains and risers all make for a little cozier atmosphere, but who goes to a basketball game for coziness? Get a ticket and get to Bridgeport!

9. Return of Alumni Hall: Maybe this is contradictory to my last wish, but a "full house" would be a little easier in a renovated Alumni Hall. No buses, no tickets, and no Bridgeport! If you're going to continue to raise tuition, put some aside for a new on-campus arena.

7. A Home for Deng: We have to have at least one former Fairfield athlete who did a little something significant as a professional. After being released last week by Philadelphia, a new team has to realize what we all know, Deng's the Gai!

6. Fairfield Football: OK, so we stunk when we had a team and we would probably stink again, but people would go; there's not much else to do. Besides, if the Prep school can pack the stands, can't we?

1. Red Sea on the Red Line: Bring back hockey already. No excuses! The club team is dominant and the fans are going farther than Harbor Yard to see them.

Well Santa, Alumni Hall is about to fall down and we need an on-campus hockey rink, so can we pass on the IPOD and go with a new $25 million state of art arena. I've got the blueprint in hand already. Let me show you...

Antman, just for clarification, we did not stink in football.

Any color on Quinnipiac's on campus arena? ...that new facility will put us behind UCONN, YALE, SHU and now Quinnipiac in terms of on campus basketball in the state of CT ..kind of sad. Then again, when we become the next Gonzaga, I mean Bucknell, we will be happy to have Harbor Yard to pack with 8500 fans.

I am very impressed with what Quinnipiac's AD, Jack McDonald, has accomplished over the past couple of years. The new on-campus basketball and hockey arena and the significant upgrade of the hockey program to the ECAC. It's only a matter time before their investment begins to pays off. I am sure Joey D can't wait to get the new oncampus facilities.

Check out their online ticketing page with some great renditions of the new hockey and basketball arena. They really appear to have their act together in New Haven. Look out Stags!!!

Sadly, I can remember when those programs were div 3, now they threaten to overtake us. Worst possible year to have to ask this question, but do you think our two alums who coach there would leave to come back to Fairfield. 5 years ago it was a sure yes..not so sure anymore.

To be fair, our soccer and lacrosse programs have easily accomplished as much as their hockey program, and their basketball programs are far from stellar..but that school has come a long, long way.

I think it would be great to have a Facility like BU's on campus. We should put it where the Football Field is and move the preppies down to the turf field. It would be perfect you could have the Athletic complex be joined with the new Arena.and there would be room there for parking also. I think this is a FAR better way then to rent AHY for 200 fans to go see a womens game and 2500 who go see a mens game.
