Great win for Marist and the MAAC. Game was in MSG.

BTW Marist got a JUCO Center late in the Recruiting season..... 6-11 James Smith. He is averaging about 15ppg and 8rpg. I don't think he was not highly sought after.

Over the years I thought the Stags would have been interested/connection with him as he was Kudjo's and Alvin Carter's HS teammate. I think early on grades were an issue but it looks like he has cleaned those up. I think he signed at a similar time we got Nate Hawkins. I will have to find out if we were ever involved with Smith.

Impressive win and impressive stats for their JUCO center. It seems that most junior college kids don't pan out, but to come right in and average 15/8 is fantastic.

Went to the game at MSG. Maybe 5,000 fans and Marist probably had 30%. It just goes to show even some of the teams in the big conferences don't draw very well.

I believe this theory is being slowly thrown out the window...

Marist - 6'11" James Smith (15ppg and 8 rpg)

Iona - 6'8" Kiril Waschmann (12ppg and 8 rpg) and 7'0" Penn State transfer John Kelly suiting up for the first time on Friday against Kentucky.

Loyola - 6'10" Maryland transfer Hassan Fofano suiting for the first time on Friday against Virginia and 6'8" Notre Dame transfer John Israel joining the Greyhounds next year.

You get the picture. There are alot quality big men in the MAAC now.

...and let's not forget...

Rider - 6'9" Jason Thompson (14ppg and 8rpg)

Manhattan - 6'8" Arturo Dubois (10ppg and 6rpg)

St. Peter's - 6'10" Ivan Bozovic (4ppg and 5rpg)

Are we going to start this again? Name the last MAAC championship team that had a top 2 player over 6'7? (Hint: don't tell me Mendez. He measured under 6'6 at the NBA camp)

Is it nice to have a big man in your line-up? Certainly. Is it a necessity? NO! Ask Bobby Gonzalez.

PS: There is NO WAY James Smith was going to get into FF.

The MAAC teams have done a nice job of replenishing Big Men this year, but over the last 2-3 years, I thought the MAAC had its best group of Big Men/centers than its ever had. And many were 4 year starters

In particular I thought the year when Rob Thomson, Greg Jenkins, James Reeves, Justin Miller, Young of Marist was one of the best..... followed by Ajou , Gai, Castleberry, McClurkin, and Sneizak were 2 really good back to back years.

But none of those teams won it all.
