In reply to: rdjc 's message, "red hook" on 06:56:28am 12/28/05 Wed,

rdjc, thanks for the update. Below is the Poughkeepsie Journal write-up. I noticed that Red Hook lost last week to Rondout. I have no stats and don't know how nuch or if Nero played. rdjc, do you know id Rondout is any good????

There might have been some Stag Fans at the Red Hook game last night, so looking forward to any report.

KINGSTON — Greg Nero scored 35 points as Red Hook defeated previously unbeaten St. Mary's of Long Island, 74-69, in the opening round of the Ron Scheffel Memorial Tournament at Kingston High School.

Jamal Coston added 16 points for Red Hook, which improved to 4-1 overall and will play Kingston at 7:30 tonight for the tourney title.

Kingston advanced to the final with a 66-54 win over Berkshire (Mass.).

Link below to a more detail story. And I just realized that Red Hook beat an undefeated St Mary's of Long Island team, who is usually very good and has one of the top players in NY in Rashad Green (6-3). Nice win.

Went to the game last night. This game vs St Mary's was entirely different then the first game( vs FDR- presidents). This game was wide open, with both teams racing up and down the court. Lots of action and plenty of turnovers on both teams part.
Nero played entirely differnt in this game then the previous game. Previously vs FDR he played on the perimeter. In this game he played underneath against a 6'6" center. His scoring, 35 pts game from 13 FG's ( including one 3 pointer) and 8-13 from the FT line. All of his field goals (except the 3 pointer) were down low and inside (below the foul line). He played with his back to the basket most of the game and had several offensive rebounds in which he finished with "put backs".
The thoughts i wrote down on paper as i watched the game were:
Not a banger, not necessarily an agressive rebounder.
Good passer, on the outlet to start a fast break and during the fast break.
Can handle the ball well for a big man both one the open court and down low. He took the inbound pass several times from his teammates and dribbled down court like a guard. One time he took a defensive rebound down and dribbled the entire lenght of the court and finished with a lay-up. He can put the ball on the floor in traffic and score.
