Subject: Women's attendance

Last night the St. John's(11-2) women beat #12 Notre Dame(9-2) 66-63 at Carnesecca Arena on campus before only 722 fans. Fairfield is not alone with attendance problems. Their arena seats 6008 but St. John's women play all their home games there and only 2 games(double headers) at MSG. The men play 7 games on campus and 10 games at MSG. The on campus games are played against the lesser draws. Maybe St. John's has the right idea about a mix of on campus and big arena games. Granted a new on campus facility for Fairfield is needed but does anyone think that the women should be playing any single games next year at AHY?
The St. John's athletic web site www.redstormsports.com has a great feature - Marketing/Promotions that lists all the promotions, discounts, give aways, etc. for the season at all the men's and women's games. Does anyone know what if any such promotions that Fairfield has and if so when do they let their fans know about it. Hopefully, the new advertising/promotion people might consider this as one small way of getting more people in the AHY seats.

Attendance will only grow as the program becomes consistantly more successful and when the team plays other schools that the fans can associate with and want to see.
No Marketing / Promotions company in the world is going to fill the arena for tonight's game when we are 2-7 playing against the Saints.
In my opinion, we would be better served playing SHU at the arena in some sort of Fairfield County Championship Tourney Sponsored by among others, the Connecticut Post. A game like this, in a long term contract renewed if certain attendance milestones are reached, could become a 5,000+ draw regardless of our win-loss record.
