In reply to: JoeStag 's message, "Questions on the Fordham Game" on 08:00:20am 12/15/05 Thu,

1.. What was the lack of defense all about. Was Fordham that wide open, or were not playing any "D". Not big enough, not quick enough, not agressive enough, not in position, not fighting throuh picks.... or all the above.

No, Fairfield lacked intensity on the defensive end. The guards were very passive, which allowed Fordham good looks at threes as well as fairly easy penetration. Also, they did not do a good enough job of denying Dunston.

2. Fordham shot 45 FT's, and all seemed to be valid calls from the radio. How did that happen, was fouling our only defense to stopping them.

Most of the fouls were in the paint. Fordham dominated on the glass and fouls usually result. Dunston was by far the best interior player on the floor, and Fairfield had no answer--and as noted above, they didn't deny him the ball well enough.

3. How did Han play. 5 assists and 3 turnovers, but was the misconnects on his part or was it the player receiving teh pass not able to handle thepss or in right position or could not convert.

Han was OK. Forced some shots, but that's almost excusable with the way things were going last night. His turnovers were just carelessness. But that goes with being a frosh.

4. Webcast stated the team looked out of focus and deflated, and said that it looked like it was due to being out matched and out sized all year. Players having to play out of position.

Would agree with that. They definitely appeared to give up during that 21-0 run.

5. Herbie seemed to play well, is that so.

He seemed OK. A little timid.

6. Todd only 27 minutes, what seems the reason that he is down 8-10 minutes a game. Is it just that MVS and Bell were more productive last night?????

Todd's game has really slipped. I think he (as well as the entire Fairfield offense) really misses Goode. Todd is a very good player but he just doesn't appear suited to be "the man" and put the team on his back.

7. It seem that Carter is struggling big time, and both Middleton and Reedal did not do much until last few minutes of game. Did any of the 3 show hope?????

Carter is just grossly out of position, it's not his fault. Cannot comment on the others, as I left with about 10 minutes to play.

All in all, this is the weakest Fairfield team I've seen in a number of years. DMax won't make everything right, but he should definitely help. I think your offense will struggle all season, though. You rely on the 3 way too much, but that's to be expected when you don't have an established post scorer. I admit I was surprised at your lack of defense, though. If nothing else, TOT's teams always defended well--though I realize that it helps to have Goode and Gai out there for four years!

Hope this was helpful.

1 - Lack of Defense - the guys have to sag into the middle because of the height problem - defense is "be pick your poison" - let teams get looks from 3 or over power us in the middle.
2 - fouling is a result of being out of position - unfortunately when you over compensate in one area, sagging into the middle, fouling is going to happen.
3 - Han looked flat to me - at the beginning of the 21-0, he commited 2 connsecutive turnovers after McCrae from Fordham hit a well guarded 3 with Han in his face. That run ended the game.
4 - FU started strong - -up 18-17 before Fordham hit 2 quick 3s and Han had 2 turnovers.
5 - Allen looked ok but as a spare part right now. Looks/plays young.
6 - Todd played ok on D but needs to take the team on his back. He can blow by people and shoot - he need to be the guy to step up and stop big runs by other teams - if Fordham is on a 21-0 run, i want it to be because TT missed 6-7 shots in that run.
7 - Carter is a role player being asked to do too much right now. He works hard and is taking lumps that might be too much to ask for underclassman to take. Reedal appears to have some skills but looks physically over matched as a 4-5. He looks to be more 6'4" than 6'6". He might be ok as a "3" but as a freshman and being asked to play out of position, he doesn't look so good. Middleton looks big and awkward and can't shoot. At the end of the game he scored 2 baskets by running the floor. If he does this more and gets a little confidence by getting some easy baskets, he he might become serviceable.
