Nero has signed -- JoeStag, 01:31:20pm 12/21/05 Wed, [1]
Greg Nero signed a National Letter of Intent in November, and it was reported below in the Daily Freeman Newspaper.
Greg Nero made it official shortly after 12 noon Thursday. Red Hook High senior Nero signed a national letter of intent to attend Fairfield University on a full basketball scholarship. With his parents, Joe and Tina, on hand along with coach Rod Chando and many school officials, Nero put his name on the dotted line during a brief ceremony in the high school conference room. "Fairfield is close to home (less than a two-hour drive) and had everything to offer I wanted," Nero said of the Division I Connecticut school. "I made a verbal commitment in May. I knew it was where I wanted to go.
From what I can gather is that Fairfield does not issue a press release unless all academic/application paperwork is in order, so Fairfield can accept him as a student. Nero is suppossedly an excellent student, so I don't know any specifics on what/if any were the hold-ups.
My understanding is that all is in place, he is a committed/accepted student-athlete. I would hope that we can see a press release and CT Post story on him...... soon.

Hey Stratford Stag, If you have something to say, say it to my face not Joe Stag. The sports info. dept is pathetic. They spend more time explaining why they can't do something than it would take to do it. If the shoe fits, wear it. You can tell that to the person who you obviously are protecting. This has been going on for years.

Re: agreed -- me, 04:39:54pm 12/21/05 Wed, [1]
couldn't agree more. jack jones is a class act working in a profession that receives little or no recognition for the hard work that they do (if you need proof look at some of the foolish posts above).
i'm sure there is a good reason that it hasn't been officially released. and if you don't think that it's a big deal to be careful over such things, (other than NCAA concerns) just look at jim o'brien and the mess at BC about 10 years ago.
let's not get carried away over a stupid press release.
how about worrying about how to get a rebound and draw some more fans to the arena? a press release about a guard from poughkeepie will not cure either problem.

Mr.Duh, please tell me about these bigger issues that our sports info. dept. is dealing with. I also hope you know the difference between a guard and a 6'7" forward. Also, how do we know that he is going to fairfield if someone didn't announce it to us? I hope you don't get a sore arm and shoulder from patting yourself on the back. Maybe if publicity and information on the Men's Basketball Team were generated in a timely fashion, there would be more than 3 or 4 of us who care.

Re: agreed -- DOC, 06:58:49pm 12/21/05 Wed, [1]
I agree with Rave. Many of us are frustrated because we are no longer in the loop, and feel that the athletic department is ignoring its faithful loyal fans. Rave is one of the founders of the 6th man club. He travels a long distance for men's basketball. He is a very loyal supporter. and I certainly do not agree with him on all issues, but I know how much he loves Fairfield University. His heart bleeds Fairfield red.We

all get frustrated from time to time about Fairfield basketball so we use this site to vent, But the true loyal fans on this site, as Joe Stags states, should be curteous and proper, may criticise, but not demean, each other or the school in any bad way. Rave is a true loyal fan, and a good guy. But I understand anyone of us could get testy. That is why I am an avid reader of this site.
