Subject: Too Much Talent
In reply to: Antman 's message, "Blow out so far" on 01:27:52pm 12/11/05 Sun,

Hoyas were too big for us to handle. They went early to 7'2" Hibbert and the Stags couldn't handle him and the other big men inside. Middleton came in early and played alot, but he was not enough.

When the Stags sagged inside, the Hoyas fired up 3's. Usually that is not a bad thing, because G'town is not known for having good shooters. Today their shooters all looked like George Gervin though. I haven't seen the stats, but they must have had at least a dozen 3's and shot a good percentage because most of them were wide open.

Too much to ask the Stags to hang with these guys.

I hope they can regroup for the MAAC season and hope that Maxwell and Diakhite can add a little toughness up front. Our guards are solid, but with no offensive threats up front, they are an awfully easy team to figure out.

I guess the other side of the coin is 'too little talent' for Fairfield?

Frank,

Did you expect them to hang with G'town? If so, you're delusional.

Yes, the team needs more size and athleticism. That's true of most mid-majors, especially those in the MAAC.

Rather than lament the fact, how about focusing on the possibility that this team might be okay in the MAAC? No reason to believe they can't compete with most of the MAAC teams.

I saw exactly what I expected today at the MCI Center. I also saw nothing that made me think that these guys can't compete for the top tier of the MAAC. Outside of Iona and Manhattan, who else is appreciably better than the Stags? If they can get some size for next year, I think the program will be in pretty good shape.

This is a 1-6 team, maybe headed for 1-10.

Maybe thats good enough for you, but I'
ll tell you something - people are not going to pay $12/$18 to watch this kind of basketball. Its a disgrace.

I am with Frank F. I was with Maryland and Hoya alumni and felt second class in terms of our team and other issues.

1.)Our ticket office cannot handle ticket processing and negotiate a group price. The turnout was average at best for this game. Very embarrassing overall.

2.) Our students are fickle about attending games, which means we're going to lose any chance of AHY being a tough place to play. What chance do we have of being a Creighton, Holy Cross, Bucknell, etc.????

3.)Coching, Tactics, Gameplan and Lineups of TOT remain suspect...are we on the downswing with him running the show?
Time to think about how to compete in the world of D1 athletics and not just be a small-time regional program.
