Subject: When is enough enough?

In the 7 plus years of the TOT tenure we have won 0 MAAC championships, & have 1 post season appearance that I can recall. Against Loyola we can't win a game in which we are up 3 with 3 secs. to play. Year after year we hear about the great recruits who will turn us into winners, and year after year we continue to lose.

We have heard that while TOT may not be the greatest at xs & os (patently obvios after the Loyola debacle, and I know some of us recall the opposite situation against Iona a few yrs ago when we could not get the ball inbounds resulting in a desperation throw, an Iona intercept and easy layup to ice the game), he makes up for it by being a great recruiter. Well a few years ago we had no guards, the excuse for not winning during TOT's 1st few years. Now we have no frontline, and this passes as great recruiting?

I know we have had injuries & suspensions (another recurring theme during TOT's tenure JC,LR, DG, TT, just to name a few) so there are an overabundance of excuses. The bottom line is the buck stops with the guy in charge. So my question is how much longer do we tolerate this situation? I for one am fed up a change is overdue.

Ray please be fair

We just won 19, 19 and 15 games in 3 consecutive years...... and that hadn't happened in like 30 years, we have had 5 out of 7 year of .500 and above in the MAAC and 3 consecutive years in the top 3. How is that "year after year we continue to lose"

You mention some close games that we lost but you fail to mention all the exciting games that we won near the end of games, against much greater odds like the come from behind vs GW, the Iona last sub-second shot, last second shots vs Niagara, Marist, Canisius and Rider all in the last few years. How come only one side of the story.

I do agree that "bottom line is the buck stops with the guy in charge" and its measured on W-L's and while we have not go to the ultimate goal, we have improved dramatically. Not presenting those facts are unfair....... especially when you are calling for someone to be fired. Do you think its its fair to allow people to come on this board and present on-sided facts for the purpose of getting someone fired?????? Do you think you have been fair????

And you might not want to hear about injuries, suspensions, and Investigations where we had only 1 frosh recruit in 25 months.... those are the facts. Do you feel they have any impact on our current record or are they just excuses.

I think Ray S has been very fair. We all know Joe Stag that every year your picks are way overly optimistic.
We have a program right now thats in the basement of Div I....thats a fact

We have a program right now thats in the basement of Div I....thats a fact. We haven't got a significant victory in years, despite having had a great player (Deng Gai). We have a coach that makes countless strategic blunders and puts a team on the floor averaging 6 Ft 2 2/3" on the FRONTLINE against Big East opposition.
I submit that you have blinders on... this program is in deep deep trouble.

[> [> Open your eyes guy -- Stags32, 09:13:04pm 12/12/05 Mon, [1]

i think it is totally unfair to say that the program is in deep trouble. first off, the last three years TOT has dealt with a lot of set backs but had the team still playing a high level of basketball. he has made some blunders but he is a great face and personable guy that is good for a small sized school. he's kind of like Herm Edwards great motivator questionable coach! my freshmen year (two years ago) we got snubbed from the NIT tourney big time. no big time wins? what about George Washington were you at that game? we've been top three in the MAAC and we will be again when the second half starts and Mama and Witt are back. furthermore, we've come up on the short end of some very exciting big games last year (Rider and Niagara).

Jon Han is playing like the real deal, Middleton is showing some forms of promise, and MVS and Bellie have stepped up. TTodd is the key right now, but dont sell us short. our team has heart and for the students that do go we know that.

i dont post often but some of you guys are getting crazy. we lost our frontline to injury and suspension and that was where we were already weak. we have a big time player in Nero coming next year. dont bash the program now.

you should be concentrating on weds nights game with Fordham! this team will be well oiled and ready for the MAAC tourney

The program is not in deep trouble. Two 19-win seasons in recent years is a huge jump for the Stags, just look at the last 25.
We knew going in, and knew even moreso when Max was suspended, that the year would start poorly. It certainly has. But Max should return -- our best interior player-- and Mammadou may be nearly as good. Our sophomore big man is improving and we have an excellent freshman point guard. Where is the deep trouble?

"Where is the deep trouble?"

Or basketball record is 1-6.
We can't draw people to AHY, even against very good teams.
We could easily be 1-10 after the next 4 games.
Do you view this as nirvana?

Since I left Ct some years ago,I have enjoyed reading the entertainment provided by the posters on this board.I check it two or three times a day. Some of the guys on this board know basketball and provided me with insight to what was happening with the team as I only catch a few games a year. FRANK F IS NOT ONE OF THOSE GUYS!!!! Do you think O'Conner, Mitch, and Courmier would have been around a little longer if they went 19,19 and 15! There are like 365+ other Division 1 basketball programs you can "support". PLEASE PICK ONE OF THEM FRANK!

[> Not all negative, but -- Menzies, 08:26:49pm 12/12/05 Mon, [1]

If I was forced to opine, I would think the average of the entire seven years is about all that we could ever expect. I don't see going much beyond the 19 win years and this year will struggle to get to .500.

The frustrating part is the seeming lack of learning in some areas. You are going to lose some games in the last second, but you can't lose them like you did against Loyola. (Someone reminded me above of the Iona game of a few years ago....ugh) TOT NEVER learned to take Goode out when you needed a shot creator. You can love the kid and I think he was tough, effective and fun to watch. But you have to understand what he could not do, and TOT never did. Then, ending up with no front court after having no backcourt earlier is tough to swallow. I sense a stubbornness, the bad kind as well as the good kind.

Now they have had their moments, 98% of the Loyola game and lots of other times through the years. The wheels have not come off like they did at Loyola and St. Peters.

But I think what we have had is what we will have in the future. Is that good enough?

[> Yes, Enough is enough -- JoeStag, 10:19:11pm 12/12/05 Mon, [1]

Frank,

I really do not see how comments like this come from a Fairfield Fan

- any big man has to be crazy to consider Fairfield
- Big men don't improve at Fairfield
- calling players Division II players
- Highlighting all the losses of our opponents, but not mentioning any of the wins that happen to be against teams like Kentucky, Texas, Kansas
- people are not going to pay $12/$18 to watch this kind of basketball. Its a disgrace.
- even a comment on the mascot…. ' I've never seen such a worthless mascot."

These are all comments that focus on discrediting the program, and there are many others. You know that you were banned from this board last year, and then tried to spam it quite a few times. Even with that, I let you back on, even though you never asked to be let back on…… and you still continue to make comments like the above.

And as I tried to find some comments from you on the Tulane win, and Iowa game, I did not find any except that you mentioned (multiple times) Iowa lost their last 2 games….. failing to mention that their best player was hurt. Very rare from some who claims to be a Fairfield fan .

Unfortunately, I am not the only one who thinks this way. You are no longer welcome.
