Subject: Elsberry column: Hey, ESPNU, where are you?

The only cable system in the region that does carry ESPNU is Tele-media in the valley.

ESPNU, which debuted in March, is the network's latest creation, an all-college sports channel dedicated to showing everything from volleyball to field hockey to soccer. Speaking of soccer, did you see the Fairfield women's team defeat Marist 2-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., last week? It was carried live on ESPNU.

Again, I missed all the action.

You probably didn't get to watch the Stags' men's soccer team in the MAAC tournament's championship game against Marist live on TV either. That also was on ESPNU.

Fairfield assistant sports information director Chris O'Connor told me he had to drive down to Bobby Valentine's Restaurant in Stamford in order to watch the women's MAAC tournament game on TV. ESPNU, where are you? Unless Cablevision, Comcast and Charter Communications wake up and get ESPNU on their channel listing, local sports fans are going to miss out on some rare opportunities to see their backyard teams in action. Tim O'Toole's Fairfield Stags are slated to play twice on ESPNU this season, Jan. 20 at Marist and Feb. 3 at Harbor Yard vs. Rider, while the Fairfield women have a Feb. 9 game at Manhattan scheduled for ESPNU.

Want to watch those games? So do I. Maybe we'll meet at Bobby Valentine's in Stamford. At least ESPNU is on there.
