"I'm not looking for anybody to pat me on the back, but fair is fair," Martelli said. "We had been trying for a couple of years, because of the Jesuit association, to get a series going with Fairfield. We were interested in a four-year deal and, I just think fair is fair.

Some questioned my logic behind suggesting a Jesuit league, tournament and focusing our scheduling on Jesuit schools. This is why. An affinity does exists between Jesuits schools and some coaches understand this. Martelli understands this. Whittenburg at Fordham does not. You can't tell me that Fr. Von Arx after spending many years at Georgetown had nothing to do with our getting Georgetown on our schedule. The great thing about this is that so many Jesuit schools have great basketball programs. We need to continue to focus our scheduling on bringing in the likes SJU and GU and hopefully expand it to other Jesuit schools like Xavier, Marquette and Creighton to name a few.

He had nothing to do with getting Georgetown on the schedule. Credit the AD.
