In reply to: Sobro 's message, "Re: I will be there and here is directions" on 11:46:59am 11/18/05 Fri,

CT Post game day Skinny below. Sobro didn't realize Danzker was a top scorer in HS. St Francis reminds me of when Mitch Buonaguro took over the Stags. He inherited some under-achieving, and experienced talent and took the Stags to 1st place. Nash in his first year seems to have some talent and experience.

SKINNY — The Stags look to open with a victory against a Northeast Conference opponent tonight. Last year Fairfield opened with a 53-49 loss against Mississippi State. Last season Fairfield was in the thick of the MAAC race before three straight conference defeats in February. It wound up losing in the MAAC semis. Terrence Todd, the Stags' leading scorer (15.9) a year ago, returns, but he and Michael Bell are the only two players from last year's opening day starting lineup in uniform tonight. Fairfield finished 15-15 last year, while St. Francis was 13-15. Tim O'Toole begins his eighth season as Fairfield's head coach. He's 103-101 overall. Brian Nash, a former Seton Hall assistant, takes over at St. Francis. Allan Sheppard (11.4), Christian Brown (11.4) and Tristan Smith (11.3) are SFNY's top returning scorers. The last meeting between the teams was early in the 2001-02 season, a game won by Fairfield, 75-71.

According to Guy F, the Stags are a 2 pt. favorite tonight. This game would be 'mon back' pick if Jim Cramer handicapped sports, meaning load the truck up if you can get any action giving the points. Everyone has set the bar so low, it won't take much to exceed expectations - which begins tonight with a 10-15 point road win. Han makes everyone say "Tyquawn who?" with much improved play at that spot and everyone else will have elevated their respective games.
Having said that, this is a Fairfield team that will find ways to lose games they should win and never pull an upset - we finish over .500 for the year and get everyone fired up for '06-'07.

Based on my listening to the game on WVOF...

JON HAN is the future of Fairfield basketball. He controlled the point very well distributing the ball and leading the Stags in scoring with 17 points.

Marty O'Sullivan was solid with a double-double (11 points and 11 rebounds).

That's about it...

Feb. 11th - Scrimmage v. Manhattan!

I know most of you here have grown tired of my raving about the lacrosse team, but, these guys are for real. The freshman recruiting class was the best ever and next year's recruiting class is shaping up to be even better. Coach Spencer and Delia are bringing is some serious blue chip talent and don't be surprised if you start reading Greg Downing's name being mentioned for the Tewaarton Award. Similar to the Hobey Award in college hockey, the Tewaarton Award is given to the top D1 collegiate lacrosse player in the country. I'll keep you posted! :-)

I wasn't being facetious. One of the few positives is that Lacrosse is only a few months away. Think of it a coach who recruits good players & then teaches them how to WIN!!!

Excellent! You are correct. Coach Spencer is agressive about growing the program and has made all the right moves. In ten years, Coach Spencer has taken a former club lacrosse team with little success in D1 from the MAAC to the ECAC to the GWLL and now back to the ECAC, which is arguably considered, if not the best, the second best overall lacrosse conference in the country. They are producing all-conference and occasional all-american players, winning conference championships, making NCAA tournament appearances and now are posed to climb into the upper echelon of college lacrosse. Everybody at Fairfield can learn alot from Coach Spencer and his agressive steps towards building greatness at Fairfield!!!
