Subject: Underdog - 6.5 points

Stags are a 6.5 underdog this evening, according to the line in today's Hartford Courant. Despite homecourt advantage, including the exciting new arena set-up (OK, I'm being sarcastic), I'm admittedly surprised it is only 6.5. I hope I'm wrong, but if I were a betting man, I'd take St. Joe.

I've talked to two other Fairfield fans this morning and everyone thought the line is way off. It should be double digits.

Since we lost by 8 to them last year, and it was at their home court, I would think that 6.5 is probably right spread...... if you look at it that both teams lost 2 starters with St Joes losses of Jones and Carroll probably more significant than Gai and Goode.

But, in reality we have lost 3 starters for this 1st sememster if you consider Maxwell. So if you add in the Max Factor, I would say a spread of 8 is probably more reasonable

Anybody see the spread in the print edition of the CT Post? Think it said 2.5 dogs. Could have read that wrong, though when I read I was surprised.

[> Thoughts on tonights St Joes Game -- JoeStag, 10:25:06am 11/21/05 Mon, [1]

From a production perspective we replaced Gai and Goode pretty good with O'Sullivan and Han. While I am not expecting those numbers every game out of those 2, they still need to play a good game every night. And our 3 most experienced players have to play well..... Todd, Bell, and Van Schaik. If Todd and Van Schaik play their normal game, we beat St Francis. Those 5 have to be solid on offense, and hit the open shot. I would hope that we continue the pass shoot offense.

What we did not replace was our defense...... of players driving into the lane. Last year opponents thought twice about going to the hoop...... St Francis was too comfortable. IMO, I think Carter has to stepup his toughness, and physically keep players out, by either drawing charges or fouling them before they shoot. O'Sullivan's play was very encouring, defensively and off the boards.... but he needs help.

IMO, Middleton will play more tonight as St Joes is bigger thatn St Francis. And it seems they have 5 centers 6-9 and above that played 78 minutes. But that was in a 33 point blow-out vs Lafayette..... so I don't expect their centers to play as much against us. And I would like to see Carter and Middleton committ more fouls, ands see if their big guys can shoot FT's. Carter only 2 fouls last game, and Middleton none but only played 2 minutes.

I would like to see this game turn into a game where their Big men hit 1of 2 FT's and then we hit a 3

We recruited their PG Dwayne Lee out of HS and I think he picked St Joes over us in the fall. Todd and Lee had some battles in HS, and they were rated very close....so Todd needs to have a big game. It will be interesting to see how Jon Han plays versus a very tough defense. We have to match St Joes intensity, ansd shoot much better.

this is the type of game that has to be played on the outside, and we take our shot at it. our team is built to shoot the hell out of the ball and we have to turn the game into a shooting contest. the key to the game is to hit a few threes in a row and get the students fired up. the students win or lose this game for us.

If the students show up... how many are expected at tonight's game?
