Subject: How will we win any MAAC games with this tiny frontcourt?

I know it's not cool to bash the coaches, but come on, they had four years to recruit replacements for Gai, Deng and Thompson, and all we have is one player over 6'7" on the ENTIRE roster?? There are Div. 3 teams that are taller than us. I know we are missing our 2 starting forwards right now, but even they wouldn't have helped tonight. TOT gets the blame for this, no reason he can't find a couple of 6'8" bangers to fill the lanes and get rebounds.

I posted a couple days ago...the allegations really hurt recruiting...particularly the current sophomore and junior classes. Can't blame good players for not coming to Fairfield when the program's future was up in the air at that stage.

Fairfield may have escaped the embarassment/punishment if it had been found guilty, but didn't escape without some harm. The next two years will likely be a struggle.

With all due respect, a few years ago when we were losing it was because we didn't have guards. Now we don't have size but wedo have excuses.Maybe we need fewer excuses and more coaching.

we were outsized, outplayed and outclassed. The student section was filled but not nearly to capacity - a good start though.

I think we got one or two Offensive Rebounds. We were consistently out of position and our shooting was horrendous. Give credit to SJU though, they played some very stingy defense and exploited their height advantage very well; an advantage that they seemed to hold at every position.

Understanding that St Joes is far superior, we are in for a very long year with the lack of any inside presence. We are going to get crushed by any team with two players over 6'8".

The only bright spot, if you can identify one, is Jonathan Han. This kid is the real deal; sees the floor very well, pushes the ball, makes pinpoint passes and hits the jumper. Aside from him tonight, it was very disappointing.

This game was disgraceful. Your home opener and there wasn't one moment - I repeat, not one moment, when you could have cheered for this team (other than the introductions).
Many people commented that they will not return to watch this kind of a product. It really was very hard to sit through. This is a team with Div III size and Div II talent trying to play Div I basketball.

Time to do a little soul searching folks.

I doubt it would have made much of difference even with Max in the lineup. Plus we had less than 3,000 fans attending to see one of highest profile opponents ever at AHY. The St. Francis loss was disappointing, but, I don't believe it was disappointing enough to influence 2,000 to 3,000 fans not to attend the game.

Very disappointing evening on many levels!

Couldn't agree more with you Stagophile......

Very disappointing turnout given the fact that a high profile opponent was there. To take it a step further, I sat in Section 115 tonight....row L.. and I was surrounded and I mean surrounded by St. Joe's fans/alum. I looked around and all I saw was St. Joe's sweatshirts and hats...I now know what Custer felt like....lol

The team played probably the worst game I have seen since they have played at AHY. They were never in the game, were outsized at every position, could shoot (did they miss an open jumper ?) and played good D (did we get an open jumper in the first half ?). Maxwell would have battled as he always does, but I don't think his presence would have made a bit of differnece.

I also agree with Frank F. Playing this kind of basketball will not get anyone but the diehards to return to the arena. I already have tickets for Providence, I have a real bad feeling about that game also....

Only bright spot was Han.... I think he is a player, and will excel for the Stags for 4 years. Now all he needs is some help !

Lastly, in checking today's NY Post the line on this game was 2 1/2...... what were those odds makers smoking ? Maybe the peace pipe !

I've had enough already. Last game you'll see me at. Both my kids just about fell asleep. No way I'll ever again part with a C note to see this kind of performance. Heck, even before the abortion, you could just sense we didn't belong on the same court. Seemed like more St. Joe fans. Of course, they at least had something to cheer about.

[> Frontcourt -- JCM, 11:42:56pm 11/21/05 Mon, [1]

My high school team was bigger than this stags line-up. We had two players that were 6'9.

I have to agree even with Maxwell the stags loose this game by 20.

I expected to lose this game, but not but 30 points. I left tonight knowing it is another wait to next year season. Yet if this team had a legimate big man (ie Rob Thompson), I think they would win 20 games. Hard to imagine TOT didn't focus his recruiting on getting a big man. Even if Middleton was all Maac there is no excuse for not finding a second Big man to back him up.

[> Re: How will we win any MAAC games with this tiny frontcourt? -- What are you talking about, 02:57:26am 11/22/05 Tue, [1]

Are any of you watching the same games i have. I think our frontcourt players are the least of the probloms. Mike bell cant buy a basket, terrance takes the entire team on himself and whatver guard comes off the bench looks like they need toliet paper. On top of that all of them get consitenly beat off the dribble. We keep talking about the front court issues, look at the box score in both games, against st francis the two didnt combine for more than ten points, tonight furgerson had 14 nivins had a whoping 4 ,and that is it. So if we want to keep trying to say big problom is the front court we can, but in the last two games our gaurds have been horribly outplayed.

but the difference is our back court can play...the front court is non-existent. It is ok to have opinions, but lets not get our emotions entangled here. Noone is knocking the front court there Pop, just stating the obvious. The truth is MOS, Middleton...and who else???...doesn't matter...haven't made a mark on this team and unfortunately they all have reached their peak (high school). I say lets go with TODD, HAN, BELL, MVS, and just for kicks...lets throw in Allen...wouldn't make a difference but it sure would be fun to watch.

does anyone know where oglesby is????

The most disappointing part of this game is that they beat us in every facet of the game. They were not only bigger and stronger, but they they were quicker at ehsame time. They had the 6-10 kid play guard Cathales(sp) that was out quicking our guys to the hoop. They actually played a slowdown game, running plays to perfection.

But maybe their offense is not as good as it seemed. Maybe it was our defense. They were wide open from 3, and had a lot of time to get relaxed and shoot. I still don't know how that happened.

After St Joes got up by 20, it seemed like we were not even going for any o-boards...... one and done. And even when we did get some rebounds we either could not hold onto the ball or fell down when we reached the floor.

I would say that this is one of our most dominating losses, even worse than some of the UCONN and Duke losses, because they dominated in every aspect. Got to give St Joes credit as they were still focused and working for good shots even when they ere up by 25.

Han the only Bright spot. Todd and Bell still battled and eventually had some good hoops. Middletons 2 blocks at least showed some defensive presence
