In reply to: JoeStag 's message, "NCAA Women's Soccer Tourney" on 07:27:26am 11/01/05 Tue,

JS, Stags might be the first. Most league tourneys aren't until this weekend. Watching the game yesterday, ESPNU kept advertising their Sunday schedule of 3 "Mid-Major" league championships.

No tourney in Ivy, but 1st place not decided yet.

Congratulations to the ladies for making a tremendous run to the NCAA bid. I suspect their reward will be a date with #1 Penn State.

Below is a link with ratings for Mens and Womens Division I Soccer.

I am no Soccer expert my any means, but I have watched the Stags Men and Women play in prior MAAC Championships, and I would have to say that the sport of Soccer offers the greatest opportunity to upset a good team, as evident by what our Women's team just did.

IMO, in Soccer you can be totally outplayed from a field control and shots on goal perspective, but still win the game. I have seen our Men's Soccer team get upset after having superior talent, and outplaying our opponent...... I remember Marist doing it to us about 3-4 years ago, just by playing good defense, having a hot goalie, and getting a goal off a defensive miscue by us.

So our Women can pull an upset in the NCAA's

By the same token, our Men's Soccer team still need to play excellent to win the MAAC Tourney.

JS, agree & disagree.

"IMO, in Soccer you can be totally outplayed from a field control and shots on goal perspective, but still win the game" - This was certainly the case yesterday. I watched the game last night, and Niagara certainly had the better of play throughout. And I'm sure the same held true vs. Loyola.
Having said that, it will be extremely difficult to upset a team like Penn State, North Carolina, UConn, whoever, on their home field. Would think almost impossible.
However, GO Stags!!!

Bob,

I agree. It will still be very difficult to upset a Penn State of UCONN...... and the home fields will make it that much harder But I do think it would be easier to upset the top team in Soccer rather than any other sport, like playing the #1 team in Hoops.

The only other sports I can think of where you are totally dominated but still have a chance to win are Baseball, Softball, and Hockey...... as Pitchers and Goalies can just play great and throw shutouts.

I just see more upsets in Soccer
