24th-Ranked Men's Soccer Set For Final MAAC Weekend
Stags Travel To Marist And Siena

Nov. 3, 2005

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular-season championship and a top-seed in the 2005 MAAC tournament are at stake this weekend for the nationally-ranked Fairfield University men's soccer team. And, the team is poised to take full advantage of having its own destiny in their collective grasp.

The Stags will travel to Marist College on Friday, November 4, and finish the regular-season with a Sunday, November 6 match up at Siena College. Should Fairfield win one of those games, it would clinch the top spot in the MAAC tournament. Fairfield is currently the only school that is unbeaten in MAAC play with a 6-0-1 mark. Every other team in the conference has at least two losses.

Besides their number 24 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, the program also received national recogintion with Vasilis Androutsos' placement on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. The senior tallied the game-winning goal in a 1-0 decisio over Niagara, and followed up with two more goals in a 6-0 victory against Canisius College.

Fairfield, ranked third in the region, is also among the national leaders for goals against average (fifth in Division I with a 0.54 mark). The Stags allowed only two goals in nine October games, and outscored the opposition by a 26-2 in those outings.

Fairfield University will host the 2005 MAAC tournament at Lessing Field, beginning with the semi-finals on November 11. Game times are 3 and 6 pm with pairings to be announced the week of the tournament. The two winners will play on November 13 at noon with an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament on the line.
