Joe Stag, since you seem to have the full access, any chance you could post the whole article? I'm curious as to the state of the MAAC women's league this year.

My feeling is it's Marist, Canisius and then everybody else but I'd like to know what Scout has to say without me paying the 40 bucks.

Shooter,

I can't just cut and paste the entire article, but below is the write-up on Canisius and Marist, who I agree are the favorites.

---

Last season goes to show that not even the conference coaches can accurately predict how teams will finish in the standings. Loyola, picked first in the MAAC in the preseason coaches’ poll, finished in a tie for fourth. The coaches thought Niagara would be near the bottom but ended up in the third place spot.

This year should be less tumultuous at the top but the middle of the league should see plenty of jostling for position.
1. Canisius (21-10, 14-4 second, winner of MAAC tournament): After starting the 2004-05 season 4-6, Canisius finished its final 21 games 17-4 to take second place in the MAAC regular season standings. The Griffins followed that up by winning the conference tournament, earning their firs- ever trip to the NCAAs. This was all accomplished under the leadership of first-year coach Terry Zeh, and after the loss of the team’s two best players.

All starters return this year, in fact all players are back but two little-used reserves. Senior Becky Zak leads the team with 12.9 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 4.5 apg and earned first team All-MAAC honors last season. Backcourt mate Jessie Lamparski adds only 5.8 ppg but boasts an impressive 1.8 assist to turnover ratio. They’re joined in the starting lineup by two more all-MAAC players; junior Megan Lyte and senior Jessica Steves. Look for the Griffins to edge out Marist for the top spot in the league.

2. Marist (22-7, 15-3 first): Coach Brian Giorgis has done a tremendous job at Marist in the three years he’s been there. In 2003-04, only his second season, Giorgis led the Red Foxes to their first MAAC regular season and tournament titles. The resulting trip to the NCAAs was a first, too. A second consecutive regular season title followed in 2004-05, but Marist lost to Canisius in the championship game by only one point.

Giorgis, who was tremendously successful as a high school coach at Our Lady of Lourdes, is back, but gone are second leading scorer and all-MAAC honoree Kristen Keller and fellow starter Megan Vetter. The two combined for 24.2 ppg and 10.6 rpg, or 40% of scoring and 27% of rebounding totals. However, the leading scorer, 6-0 forward Fifi Camera, returns for her senior year, as does the starting point guard and reigning MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Alisa Kresge. Giorgis is expecting two transfers, Meg Dahlman from Holy Cross and Danielle McCray from Genesee Community College, to pick up the scoring and rebounding slack. The team has experience and solid coaching and should remain near the top of the MAAC.
