Subject: MAAC Rivalry Week

All sports fans love a great rivalry. Unfortunately, the MAAC has not done a very good job of cultivating rivalries amongst its members. Which got me thinking about just what exactly Commissioner Ensor could do? Here is what I propose:

1. Obviously, identify the most natural rivalries.

2. Establish one week during the middle of MAAC conference play as MAAC Rivalry Week.

3. Schedule a home and home series between rivals on a Friday night and then Sunday afternoon.

4. Market the hell out of it to local sports fans, media and TV stations.

5. Step back and watch the MAAC Rivalry Week tradition grow!!!

With that said, here are two possible scenarios of MAAC natural rivalries that we could try to cultivate. I believe proximity of schools is the most important factor given that this is typically a major factor in all great rivalries. Further it would focus the rivalries within media markets in order to best capture the interest of local/regional fans and the media.

Scenario 1
Canisius v. Niagara (Western NY Bragging Rights)
Siena v. Marist (Upstate NY Bragging Rights)
Fairfield v. Iona (Westchester v. Fairfield County)
Manhattan v. St. Peter’s (Battle of the Cities)
Loyola v. Rider (Baltimore v. Trenton???)

Scenario 2
Canisius v. Niagara (Western NY Bragging Rights)
Siena v. Marist (Upstate NY Bragging Rights)
Loyola v. Fairfield (Not sure what to call this one and certainly not local???)
Manhattan v. Iona (Metro NYC Bragging Rights)
Rider v. St. Peter’s (NJ Bragging Rights)

Let me know what your thoughts are.

Cheers,

Stagophile

Boohoo...if your life is so normal, then why are you also trolling a message board on a Friday night? Perhaps I don't have a normal life and find myself in a work or educational situation where I am required to be utilizing a computer at what you perceive to be odd times of the day. Okay, Einstein?!?! So why don't you run along to a keg party and destroy a few brain cells.

I think the matchups you presented are very good , you're also right on the mark as to who really needs to get a life too.
