Subject: Blue Ribbon has Stags 4th

Blue Ribbon Magazine, the self proclaimed "Bible" of college basketball, has a preview of their Magazine on ESPN insider. Usually this Magazine does multiple pages on each school. Below is their MAAC Predictions and some interesting details from the writeup.
1)Iona
2)Manhattan
3)Canisius
4)Fairfield
5)St. Peter's
6)Niagara
7)Marist
8)Rider
9)Loyola
10)Siena

- Having led his team to a top three finish in the MAAC each of the last three seasons, TOT has a pretty good idea of what it takes to succeed in a very competitive league. Character and veteran leadership are at the top of his list.

- So, do they have enough talent and experience to fashion another top-three finish? "I think it's a very interesting year," O'Toole said. "We have got to be a lot tougher than we were last year. We lose a lot of guys that have played a lot of games, but we have some guys back. But, if we're not tough we are going to have to figure some things out."

- Particularly defensively. The Stags have been able to rely on Goode putting pressure on the ball from end to end and Gai covering up for breakdowns by swatting shots into the crowd the last four seasons. This year they will need to be a more cohesive unit and minimize their breakdowns.

- On Todd....."He's a very flashy and dynamic guard," O'Toole said. "He can score and he can do a lot of things offensively because he is so talented with the ball."

- On Maxwell.....Though a bit undersized at 6-5, Maxwell can slash his way to the basket and has become a dependable inside scorer.

- Bell..... The 6-4 Bell will be counted on to open things up with his outside shot this season. "He's a very good shooter," O'Toole said. "We're going to need him to spread defenses out by shooting from the perimeter."

- On MVS..... is a good decision maker with range (23-of-58, .397 3PT). "He's very, very steady," O'Toole said. "He's a competent and confident performer."

- On Oglesby......the 6-3 Oglesby transferred from USF and played in 10 games after becoming eligible for the second half of the season. He scored more than 3,000 points at Hamden Hall (Conn.) in high school and could provide additional offense for the Stags this season. "He's a real X-factor guy," O'Toole said. "He puts up points, that's what he does."

- On Herbie.....The 5-11 Allen brings some New York City swagger to Connecticut after a standout career at Bishop Loughlin and could make an immediate impact at Fairfield. "He needs to come in and rock and roll," O'Toole said.

- On Carter..... is also counting on Alvin Carter to continue to provide leadership and energy. The Stags' biggest question mark is the interior, where they have been traditionally strong with and without Gai in recent seasons.

- ON MOS..... came on strong toward the end of last season and can provide solid scoring, rebounding and passing. "He's got the chance now," O'Toole said. "It's a matter of him making the most of it."

- On Middleton...... saw limited action in 15 games as a freshman but has the raw ability to be a post presence in this league. He gained experience playing on the MAAC All-Star Team that toured China this summer.

- On Reedal......is 6-6 and 205 pounds, is an outstanding free-throw shooter

- On Hawkins......is a 6-7 forward from Texas who signed late after prepping at the Lawrenceville School.

- On Mamadou.....transferred from Eastern Kentucky last winter and will become eligible
at the end of first semester. A two-time Nassau County Player of the Year at St. Mary's High School on Long Island.
- No info on Jon Han, probably cause he signed late

BLUE RIBBON ANALYSIS
BACKCOURT: B
FRONTCOURT: B
BENCH/DEPTH: C
INTANGIBLES: B

- Fairfield has more personnel questions than it's had the last three seasons, making a fourth straight top-three MAAC finish more difficult.

- Todd, Maxwell and Bell provide the kind of senior leadership that has worked in the MAAC in the past, but O'Sullivan and Middleton must be ready to produce for Fairfield to make a serious run at the top.

- Van Schaick, Oglesby and Allen can provide points off the bench, but the Stags will need to stop opponents without relying on turnovers and blocked shots because Goode and Gai are gone.

- Fairfield's lineup is not quite as solid as it has been the last couple of seasons, but the Stags should have enough talent to finish among the first five.

So, we've been picked anywhere from 3rd to 9th, i think. Curious as to where we end up on Media Day. My guess is 5th, behind Iona, Manhattan, Canisius and Loyola. Yop, I think the hounds are for real this year. I bet Todd gets 1st team All MAAC and maybe Bell for 3rd team.

I think a lot of the voting for our ranking, and the All MAAC team will depend on how the coaches look at the Maxwell situation. In reality, we could play only one MAAC game without Maxwell. IMO, Maxwell is the difference between Top 5 and Bottom-5 prediction.

And will Maxwell be considered for an all MAAC team. He would probably have got 2nd team, and definitely 3rd team.
