In reply to: JoeStag 's message, "Fairfield University Retains Leffler Agency For Men's & Women's Basketball" on 10:53:05am 11/10/05 Thu,

It would have made more sense if we hired them since the beginning of AHY.

Fr. Von Arx and Mark Reed were still a figment of our imagination!!! New leadership brings positive change. Perhaps we are seeing the beginning of a whole new era in Stags athletics.

For the first 2-3 years most of the Marketing was outsourced to Bridgesports, and then it went in-house for 1-2 years. The key is that the funding of money and resources was not sufficient to do a proper job by either Bridgeports or in-house.

I am not privy to the exact expenditures but I would bet that the total budget that is now allocated to marketing and tickets sales has probably increased 5-fold...... at least. And thats a good sign. I do not think Leffler would have taken the business if it was not properly funded.

IMO, the Consultants Study that occurred, identified that the money and resources allocated to marketing were not in the ball park of being sufficient. Hopefully the hiring of Leffler is a sign that the university has made a committment that for every dollar spent on marketing/sales, they will get a return from either Ticket sales, or increased donations from Stag fans/Alumni because of the increase in School Spirit.

But the hiring of Leffler does not automatically mean success. There is still a lot of hard work to be done. But I think its a good sign that University is changing..... and still trying to make this work, until they get it right.

JoeStag stated,

I believe this confirms that we are not all insane on this board and that our commentary all along has been right on the mark. I found it extremely frustrating that some at Fairfield felt we were out of line for complaining about the lack of marketing. Well, we now have nicely binded $250K consultants report to confirm everything we have been saying.

I hope this lends a little more credibility to our voices at the University. We are not just a bunch of crazy alumni who have nothing better to do. We care about our alma mater and our feedback is genuine. The University probably could have saved alot of money on the Consultant if they had actually listened to some of our feedback. But like they say in the corporate world, it takes a consultant just to confirm what you already know!!!

It's time to move forward and I am exciting about the latest developments today. Go Stags!!!

Stago,

We have opinions, but IMO, the consultant report gave them cold hard facts that showed them what other schools do that are successfull. If that is what is needed to convince the Board of Trustees, then the Consultants report was well worth the money...... hey I got to support the Consultant Industry as I have been one for 23 years.

Its not like the Athletic Department did not have good ideas themselves, and they probalby have recommended those ideas in the past . The Consultant report just re-inforced those same ideas with facts and probably came with a list of Best Practices that they have learned from other schools.

But I agree we all have good ideas, but getting the Powers to be to buy into them is the hard part.
