From BigSoccer MB...

Brown has one single solitary win vs a winning team that being a 2-0 victoy over powerhouse {sarcasm intended} Pennsylvania. Brown played 2 teams who made the tourney those being fellow Ivy schools Yale a 2-1 Loss and Dartmouth a 2-2 Tie. So Brown has a tie vs Dartmouth and a loss vs Yale and they get an @ Large Berth?? Whoop-de-fricken-do!! Outrageous! No wait! Scandalous!!

Lessons learned...

1.) Stags are screwed on SOS because we are a member of the MAAC.
2.) To compensate for the MAAC hit on SOS, we need schedule the toughest possible non-conference schedule.
3.) Limit or get rid of Ivy, NEC, Patriot and Southern opponents.
4.) Add as many ACC, Big East and Big Ten opponents.

What a terribly biased system, but, this is what the NCAA created! The risk of losing the MAAC Championship is too great. As a result, our SOS has to be as strong as possible in order to maximize our chances for getting an at-large bid.

So here are the final rankings of the D1 Conferences. Continuing with the rationale from me previous post, I believe we need to focus on scheduling teams from the Top 5 Conferences only. I am surprised to see the West Coast Conference ranked so high, but, I think this is great opportunity for the Stags. The top 3 teams in the WCC (i.e., San Francisco, Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount) are fellow Jesuit institutions. There is no reason why we could utilize our Jesuit ties to schedule at least one game per year with one of these WCC schools. The Ivy League was stronger than I thought, but, I think one game per year should be the max.

Rank Conf
1 ACC
2 Pacific 10
3 Big Ten
4 West Coast
5 Big East

-----------------------------

6 Conference USA
7 Big West
8 Ivy League
9 Missouri Valley
10 Mtn Pacific
11 Colonial
12 Mid-American
13 Horizon League
14 America East
15 Southern
16 Patriot League
17 Atlantic 10
18 Northeast
19 Mid-Continent
20 Big South
21 Atlantic Sun
22 Metro Atlantic
23 Atlantic Soccer

Isn't it obvious that the NCAA has no respect for the MAAC. The only way to enhance our position is to remove ourselves from this league. Otherwise we will experience this frustration every year. And I do know that this is easier said than done. A possible alternative is to put yourself in a position where you could contend for a national championship and that may mean it is necessary to move to Div 2 or 3. At least the opportunities would be more available there. I am simply tired of having to go through this nonsense with the NCAA so frequently.
