Subject: An abominable thing

I teach 4th grade Sunday school at my mixed Korean/American (mostly Korean) Methodist church, a church I will stop going to soon for various reasons. A Korean girl was absent for over 2 weeks. She was in class again yesterday. It was clear that her appearance had changed. She had gotten eyelid surgery, this 4th grade girl, this 9 year old. The other girls asked her what had happened to her eyes. She didn't want to talk about it. This was clearly not her decision, but her Korean parents' choice, pushing and coercing.

There was nothing wrong with how she looked before. In fact, she was already pretty.
