It was only in UBF that I saw with alarm that "Bible study" and "word of God" too often replaced Christ and the gospel.

You heard things like, "we grow by accepting one word of God." In fishing, the standard invitation was "Uh..cough..Would you like..uh..come to Bible study?" At the last summer conference I attended at ISU, I asked the group Bible study leader what the living water that Jesus offered the Samaritan woman was. His answer: "Uh..the word of God?"

I haven't encountered this outside of UBF..yet.
