Of course Simon is a new PT Barnum. He doesn't deny that one bit. He said so in his 60 Minutes interview.

But, the singers that they have found on the show are much better singers than many of today's biggest artists, who are chosen more by their looks and then have their singing doctored to the point that it becomes bearable.

Sheryl Crow is one of the current artists that CAN sing, but the Britney Spears, Ashlee Simpsons, etc. really aren't very good singers.
