on a john deere engine i had to take the pull start case off and then pull off the fly wheel under that. after that there is the stator there and there should be two points, one for each spark plug. i find that sometimes after you do that it isnt always the problem. it could also be the condensor which is the little cylindrical piece of metal with two wires coming from it. replace that and make sure there are good connections everywhere and file the points. if there is still no spark, check you coils. sometimes check the copper coils in the CDI, sometimes they can get damaged and no longer work, so check for small dents or breaks in the copper coils.
