For over a year, I’ve been working through Polka America Corporation with Sound Exchange (the royalty company who collects and distributes monies for the digital transmission of music). At first, they were a little hesitant to work with me as they thought there were only a handful of polka bands and publishers who were owed money. After heightening their awareness of our music for close to 8 months, they pretty much opened up the floodgates and there’s a significant amount of money (collectively) now due polka artists and publishers.
If you know any one of the following artists in the area, or their surviving relatives, please let them know they are owed money and can collect it without issue by calling 202-640-5858. Further, if you have any concerns on this issue, and would like to talk to me first before calling Sound Exchange, my office phone is 715-446-3098 (please only Monday through Friday normal hours during the summer….I’m usually in my office from 5 am to 6 pm).
The following is a listing of polka bands who are known to have performed in and around the Wisconsin area, or have connections to Wisconsin polka people, who are due money. Some may already be collecting their royalties, if so, please disregard your name.
The Marv Nissel Band
Six Fat Dutchmen
Becky & The Ivanhoe Dutchmen
Brian & The Mississippi Valley Dutchmen
Karl & The Country Dutchmen
Dorschner’s Rainbow Valley Dutchmen
Steve Meisner
Norm Dombrowski & The Happy Notes
Whoopee John Wilfahrt
Chuck Thiel & His Jolly Ramblers
Stas Golonka
Roger Bright
The E-Z Tones (unsure which EZ Tones this is)
Alvin Styczynski
Greg Anderson Band
Clete Bellin
Publishers, please check our forum for a complete list of who is owed money. I’m personally not aware of all of the polka publishers in the area, but the listing has a large number of publishers who are owed money. See http://polkas.proboards88.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=7 which is the direct link. Or, you can always get to this forum by going to the PAC homepage of http://www.polkaamericacorporation.org
We recommend all bands and publishers sign up with Sound Exchange whether you’re on this list or not.
Thank You,
Michelle
