Astroseries was created with Stratagus. Stratagus (this one at least) tipically uses a 256 color palette. The color indexes ranging from 38 up to 50 or something are blinking colors (for Stratagus). And it also features a transparent color. Obviously, if you are using Microsoft Windows' "Paint" program, you will not be able to successfulyl edit the .png files that comes with Astroseries/Stratagus. For that, you need a software able to manipulate transparent colors as well as color idnexes (you may as well need to experiment a bit with this). The one paint program I used for Astroseries is Paint Shop Pro 4.0, you can get it from the following URL:

If you are not using Windows, sorry I am not all that expert under other operating systems, but you still need a software that can deal with transparent color and color indexes, so will need tos earch for one in google, with friends, or something.
