It's never been revealed exactly how old he is, but he was old enough to have a responsible job at the National Inquisitor, where the boss trusted him to fly around the world on company money. And he was fed up with his job, which suggests he'd been working at it for a few years. I think 20 is a good guess. I don't think he is much older because he looks young, his job is still junior, and computer games usualy star young people.

The new sequels are set a couple of years later, so my guess is:

Original game: 18-22 (depending on if Zak went to college before his first job). New games: 20-24.

But that is just a guess!
