Thanks for posting. Seems half-true or half-real.

The B.I.R. is a gov't organization. But the way the
press conference was done and the way some of the words
the officials were saying were like the words of someone
who think they know something anout her personally.

And I'm sure they don't know crap about Regine.

If they did they would have cited her payment performance
up to that one thing they found. And it sounded like they
didn't just chance upon it. But that's my take on their
intriguing reasoning and explanations.

I seen media hype with showbiz before. But this is the
first time I seen a gov't agency do it like showbiz does.

I guess the B.I.R. has hired Abunda and Backroom, Inc.
as their tax drive media publicist because when you read
about their tax thingy on Regine it sounds alot like the
way her publicist wildly hypes things too.

Among the top showbiz tax payers a few years ago Regine
was number 11. Other music artists Sharon on the list
were Sharon C. and Ogie A. It was posted in the Music
Inside Buzz front page for quite some time. Regine is
known among fans for doing the right things like paying
for her taxes.

It sounds like Regine's accountant or who ever does her
tax filing and rax returns has missed including one of
her last big product endorsement for Nestle Ice-cream.

The press released said there was no tax paid for the
talent fee she received on it. Ok. If that's accurate
then all businessmen out there know what comes next.

It'll be interesting to know how it was missed. But it
isn't as big a deal as they are making it. Unless they
wanted to. They are talking down on her like she was a
certified tax evader or something. But they know better
than that. Unfortunately, the media publicist working
with this showbiz tax drive doesn't.

It may be a ligit tax issue with the artist. But the
degrading way it is being handled is something we seen
several times already. It looks like the same old kind
of wording done by her own media publicist once again.

Did he think it wouldn't be noticed just because he was
working with the B.I.R.? By the way, aren't you being
a showbiz traitor in doing something like this? Well,
you seem to have been trying to keep your involvement
a secret so I'm assuming a few things.

Does Richard Gomez know about it? How about the Lucy Torres
rumor? Doesn't that one seem similair to the Regine-Ogie
rumors in some ways? Because of the many people who was
mentioned but weren't even involved? And both rumors were
pushed into the media scene for more than a year even
though they were as false as they come?

Now both Regine and Richard Gomez who are connected to
those two long running rumors are the only two celebrities
mentioned in this B.I.R. showbiz tax drive. And you know
they had to have someone in the know from showbiz in order
to get the drive off the ground. You just can't pick out
200 or so celebrities at random. You'll hear it from their
managers and their media publicists for sure!

So make a wild guess who is the showbiz media publicist
who the B.I.R. had to approach to get information and
where to start for this public humilation move of
popular showbiz personalities?

Who else would turn against his own friends and clients
without them having a clue about it? Who else has been
doing it and getting away with it all these years?

Probably the only one in showbiz the B.I.R. will not be
doing any financial investigation on.

Regine Velasquez Will Pay If…
by Mia B. Billones

SINGER-actress Regine Velasquez yesterday expressed willingness to pay the
government of her alleged P3.75-million tax deficiency only if the Bureau
of Internal Revenue (B.I.R.) proves that she has been remiss of her obligation.

Velasquez, who surprised employees at the Department of Justice (D.O.J.)
when she went there to file her counter- affidavit as early as 8 a.m., said
she would no longer contest the tax evasion charges filed against her if
the B.I.R. produces proofs that she deliberately misdeclared her income and
filed a false return for the year 2003.

She was supposed to attend the first preliminary investigation of her case
at 2 p.m. but showed up earlier instead, saying she had prior commitments
to attend to in the afternoon.

The acclaimed singer, a resident of Tabang, Guiguinto, Bulacan, allegedly
failed to declare P3.75 million representing her income as a product
endorser of Nestle Philippines, Inc.

It was gathered that the singer, also a well-known actress, has
consistently filed her income tax returns from 2000 to 2002 with the Bureau
of Internal Revenue (B.I.R.) Revenue Region 25 in Malolos as a registered
taxpayer in Bulacan.

The BIR, however, says it has no record of her filing and paying income in
Malolos for 2003.

Instead, the B.I.R. discovered an out-of-district return made by Velasquez
in Caloocan's Revenue District 27 which was then transmitted to Malolos.

Velasquez, in the counter-affidavit that her lawyer Atty. Chat Romero filed
for her, asked the D.O.J. to compare their respective records to determine
the accuracy of the B.I.R. documents it used as basis for the case against her.

S U B J E C T : ( Song Bird Media Tax Scam Issue )
" Regine Velasquez replies to tax evasion charge "

Regine Velasquez went to the Department of Justice this morning to personally submit a counter affidavit in response to the tax evasion case filed against her by the BIR.

The singer-actress presented her sworn statement before the court this morning, but did not face the media. Only her lawyer, Charito Zamora attended the hearing at 2 p.m.

Velasquez said she did not intend to make any mistakes on the Income Tax Return she filed in 2003. She also promised that the situation will be fixed as soon as possible, and expressed her desire to fulfill her responsibility as a Filipino citizen by paying the right tax due the government.

Zamora and the BIR officials did not permit members of the press to get a copy of the singer’s affidavit following a direct instruction from the singer. They also refused to make any statements or comments on the case.

But GMA News was able to get a copy of Velasquez’ affidavit from the Chief State Prosecutor. Part of her statement went: “The omission or failure to include on my return my income for the 2003 taxable period from the Nestlé endorsement was definitely not willful but merely due to inadvertence and excusable neglect.”

She also apologized to the BIR for not immediately complying with their invitation for a personal appearance at the bureau because she was out of the country from March till May for a series of concerts.

The BIR filed a tax evasion case against Velasquez last April 21 for her alleged failure to declare her Php3.75 million talent fee from Nestlé Philippines in 2003. She only reported a Php7.7 million talent fee from Viva Entertainment, MaximMedia and GMA Network.

Velasquez noted that Nestlé Philippines deducted from the amount a withholding tax of Php750,000. <-----end-of-article----->

NOTE: Nestle had already deducted the tax amount??! AHA!

Halata bang na-hurt ang sole host na si Martin Nievera, dahil co-

Mabuti na lang at 'di apektado si Regine kung marami o iilan lang
ang kanyang audience.

She still give her all, huh!

NOTE: This article was cut. The rest really isn't relevant to the
RV story here. But I like to add that people were being asked to
transfer outside to the pool area before Regine started her song.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Subject: Too many glaring boo-boos at the Luna Awards
( Regine performed one of her favorite "theme" songs there. )

THE stars who attended the 23rd Film Academy of the Philippines
(FAP) Awards, now called Luna Awards as a tribute to Juan Luna (not
Barbara Luna), came in all their finery, dressed by top designers.

But somehow, we can't help but feel sorry for them as they stand
there on the so called red carpet, waiting to be interviewed by Boy
Abunda, baking under the heat of the scorching summer sun. Boy
himself must have been drenched in sweat after that sweltering
portion that went on for two hours and later aired on TV from 9 to
ll p.m. The awards ceremonies itself was a ho-hum affair.

----------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: Reg's media publicist did interview Regine on the red carpet.
we don't have to mention to music fans where they got this idea of
interviewing celebs like this. In this case, they had to wait..
----------------------------------------------------------------

guest performers: Jericho Rosales with "In Other Words," Piolo
Pascual with "The Gift" and Regine Velasquez with "What Kind of Fool
I Am." The only Tagalog song was "Ikaw," rendered by Sarah Geronimo.

It was a night of plunging necklines, with stars, both young and
veterans, exposing their cleavage, like Regine Velasquez, Lorna
Tolentino, Jaclyn Jose, Angelu de Leon, Claudine Barretto, Camille
Prats, and others.

Boy George Meets Tim Yap! The columnist who wrote
about Regine's fashion show and business before.

While there has been a number of showbiz people
who went out of their way to meet fmr pop star

interesting to note that Regine's media publicist
doesn't seem to be one of those who went to meet
him. And ya think he would, eh? ;-}

Hugh Jackman gay? -By Boy George

"And you know who else? Hugh Jackman is so gay. I just
saw him at a benefit the night before the Tony's and I
saw him holding hands and kissing his lover! The nerve
to go onstage during the awards to say he is not," as he
raised an eyebrow, lit a cigarette, and proceeded to go
for a bathroom break-a break that took about 10 minutes,
with his whole posse.

------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: Well, I'll believe Boy George first before I'll
believe anything coming from RV's media publicist. But
my sister already beat Boy George on that tidbit. But
she loves him anyway. As for myself.. something about
foreign gays that don't seem to make it a difference
with movie topics. He was macho great in "X-Man!"-mmJ

Tax Issue: Personal Character is in Question ( but cleared )

---------- this issue on the tax evading --------- >

Judy Ann was surprised about the filing of charges
against her. She really must be because she showed up
at a meeting of celebs sponsored and organized by the
B.I.R. to inform people in showbiz how to do their
filing of taxes properly.

Most showbiz people don't do their own work on their
taxes. They hire other people to do it or as in Judy
and Richard Gomez' case they have their handlers who
do it.

It was posted before in the Asia Song Bird yahoo group
that people shouldn't always be looking at the artists
themselves. It was in regards to any showbiz rumors
about them. It should be their handlers and managers
that you look at. And of course, their publicists.

I'm surprised about the way the B.I.R. is going about
this program of theirs that was used to tag these
celebrities for tax evasion. I think they are doing
it wrong and at the expense of the wrong persons too.

Let's see how it progresses for the time being. But
there is alot of questions about it. And it seems the
answers come several weeks after the fact. There will
probably be alot of complains. But on the other hand
it is good to know they are doing something about the
way taxes have been collected in the past. And are
trying to do some of the right things about it.

But on Regine's case I still very much think there
is something more involve than just them trying to
do the right thing. And it will be watched closely.

Regine is no tax evader. I still remember she once
was talking about always things the right and proper
way. And paying taxes was one of them.

I doubt if she losT money to a/several financial scams
in the past that it would change her in a way that
she would do something wrong on purpose to justify
any thing that happened to her.

I seriously doubt that. Big time. And Regine fans
should too. Bet the entire chicken raising ranch on
it. Any mistakes made wouldn't have been on purpose.

Its a character issue for fans. And they'll want to
know if she now has a changed one. The answer by
yours truly is "no".

I would be the first one out the door the day it
becames a "yes, she has changed" to the personal
character question.

mmJun ;->

ATTEMPTS TO CHANGE REGINE'S CHARACTER-
It should be noted that it has been clearly apparent
that her media publicist has been trying pretty hard
to change it too. So this is to let that person know
that fact hasn't escaped our attention.. either.

RV Tax Issue : Stars Meet Taxmen / Tidbits Revealed 2-Morrow ..
( Latest article on tax issue below .. )

Greetings Regine fans, friends, foes
and music cronies-

There will be a posting of our latest inside buzz
investigation into RV Tax Issue. Now being called
another media sham that seems to have involved both
the fmr and current media publicist of the Song Bird
and someone related to her former career manager(s).

-An INSIDER is claiming the case against actress
Judy Ann Santos is politically motivated. Is that
possible? We looked into the possibilities and
will post some of the thoughts about it.

-Why I think it was RV's media publicist who had
to be the one who pushed for the case against
Richard Gomez

-Some of the reasons why you'll know that case
against Regine is bogus. ( And you don't need
Bill and Ted* there to say it is..)

Stay tune for the posting of the information
in the late afternoon.

If anyone with Aria who is still with the side
of the artist is around tomorrow you'll want
to pass a copy to both Reg's new manager and
her musical directing hubby.

" Stars Meet Taxmen "

First posted 00:35am (Mla time) June 03, 2005
By Marinel R. Cruz/Inquirer News Service

Editor's Note: Published on page A2-1 of the June 3, 2005 issue of
the Philippine Daily Inquirer

BACOLOD CITY -- "We take care of our talents' tax obligations. We
make sure everything is in order," said Charo Santos-Concio, ABS-CBN
executive vice president and head of Entertainment, a week after the
Bureau of Internal Revenue filed a tax evasion case against actress
Judy Ann Santos.

The case, filed before the Department of Justice on May 19, said
Judy Ann "underdeclared" her income in 2002 by P6.7 million.

Traumatic

The actress, who played the lead character in the recently concluded
series "Krystala," is not an exclusive talent of the network, and is
managed by veteran entertainment columnist Alfie Lorenzo.

"I called [vice president for Talent Development] Mariole Alberto
because I wanted to make sure that the finances of our talents were
okay. A court case can be very traumatic to young talents," Concio
told a group of entertainment writers here.

Judy Ann is the third show biz celebrity to be slapped with tax
evasion charges this year, following actor-TV host Richard Gomez and
singer Regine Velasquez.

"I must admit that, even I, [when I was] a fresh graduate, didn't
know about these things," Concio pointed out. "What if you don't
have an accountant? You need a discerning, caring, responsible adult
to teach you."

She added: "It's not about the entertainers not wanting to pay up.
It's mostly ignorance of procedure and of BIR regulations."

This was why, Concio said, the network sent some of its talents to
the briefing that BIR Commissioner Guillermo Parayno arranged last
May 20 to educate TV and movie professionals about tax obligations.

"Just recently, I got a text message from Carlos Agassi," Concio
related. "He said he learned a lot from the discussions with the
BIR."

Concio, a former actress, said she did not think the BIR was only
after show biz celebrities. "It's just that... if you want to send a
message across effectively, [you should] use somebody who is high
profile. I read in the papers that after the charges against
artistas were filed, the BIR's collection in April increased.

"We should all be responsible [citizens]," she said. "We want so
much from the government, but we also have to do our share."

Same caution

Concio said she and her staff applied the same caution and
sensibility when selecting stories for "Maalala Mo Kaya," Philippine
television's longest-running drama anthology, which she has hosted
for 14 years (she has been with the network for 18).

"If we feel that a third party is bound to complain, we'd rather not
touch the story," she explained. "There were some lapses in the past
[but] it was never the staff's intention to hurt people."

Tax Issue Updates: Juday Summoned/BIR ad unfair to doctors

DOJ summons Juday on tax case

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday ordered Judy Ann Santos
to appear before a preliminary investigation into the tax evasion
case filed against her by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

State Prosecutor Olivia Tordesillas said Santos should be at DOJ
building on June 16 at 2 p.m.

Santos is expected to file her counteraffidavit to charges that she
was deficient in paying her taxes from 2002 to 2003.

The actress, who recently won best actress in the Urian Awards, is
accused of underdeclaring by P6.7 million her income for 2002.

Santos declared her earnings from ABS-CBN television network, Viva
Productions and Star Cinema. But the BIR said the amount represented
only 84.18 percent of the P8 million she was supposed to pay.

The actress said she is willing to settle her tax deficiencies.

THE BOARD of Regents of the Philippine College of Surgeons would
like to express its deepest concern and disappointment regarding the
Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) advertisement (Inquirer, 4/7/05)
depicting doctors as "pigs" and "tax evaders."

We believe that as a responsible newspaper, the Inquirer should have
considered the implications of the ad, especially as it denigrated
one of the most respectable and noble professions in our country.
Just like any other ordinary citizen or professional, physicians
could also fall into occasional lapses from the payment of taxes,
but such oversight does not make us "criminals" deserving of shabby
and irresponsible treatment from the BIR and the Inquirer.

The board feels that if the BIR really wanted to improve its tax
collections, then it should just have consulted with us, or with the
Philippine Medical Association, to clear plans on how to achieve its
goal.

We do agree that the government needs to collect taxes to finance
its various programs. But it certainly does not need to publish
unfair advertisements to achieve this objective.
