( Thanks to a Regine fan.. )

continues . .
In 1986, Alice H. Reyes passed on the torch of AAFI to entrepreneur
Leo Baluyut, who successfully steered the Foundation during the post-
Marcos era. Immediately after the EDSA Revolution, the times were
not conducive to holding awards nights where production costs were
considerable.
Aside from the fact that many of the people behind Aliw had gone
abroad, others had little time for a non-stock, non-profit private
organization, which depends on the support of generous friends,
mostly in government.
The was a charge hurled then at the Foundation which was criticized,
any accused of being pro-Marcos because during the Marcos era, among
the backers of Aliw were high officials in government and people
close to the power that-were.
It was futile to explain to Aliw detractors that it was but natural
for the Foundation to tap whoever was in power for support of an
organization that need finances to attain its objective of elevating
the standards of live entertainment.
Among those who expressed support for the Foundation were the late
Gen. Hans Menzi, Mts. Fortuna Barba, Mrs. Helma Ver Tuazon, the late
Secretary Jose Aspiras, and Edith Nakpil Rabat.
In 1992, Aliw Awards International, a project to bring Filipino
entertainers to the United States, was launched and merited front
page coverage in the Manila Bulletin. The troup consitited of Lea
Salonga, Bert Marcelo, Diomedes Maturan, Florante, Gloria Manila,
Emi Munji.
The Filipino Entertainers first went to Hilo, Hawaii and on to Los
Angeles, San Jose and San Francisco, California, and and were
greeted warmly by Filipinos in America.
In 1983, a Project called "Five Stars in Rhythm" produced by
99.5RT's Emilio Tuazon and Bobong Velez, for the benefit of
the Aliw Awards Foundation, was aborted due to problems arising
from a squabble over honoraria.
The four talents who were supposed to come together in a musical
extravaganza were Martin Nievera, Verni Varga, Zsa Zsa Padilla,
Nanette Inventor and Gary Valenciano.
Except for Verni, the four talents did not appear for the rehearsals
two days before the schedule date when tickets had already been sold.
Aliw Awards Foundation went to court and sued the four for breach of
contract and won.
The talents agreed to put their concert and paid up.
Leo Baluyut last year as president saw Gary Valenciano as the
Entertainer of the Year '87.
By then other awards bodies had cropped up, although none of them
could fill the vacuum left by Aliw.
After an absence of ten years during which numerous live
entertainers kept urging the founding President to revive Aliw,
Elizabeth Sison Tagle. Tagle was prevailed upon take the helm of the
foundation.
In the late 1998, Ms. Tagle began the work of reviving the
foundation by appointing the members of the post EDSA Revolution
Board of Directors. These were Cecile G. Alvarez, Vice President
Rep. Sandy Ocampo, Secretary, Charo G. Yu, Treasurer, Luchie
Arguelles, PRO, Yolly Ayson, Director, Tess Castro, Director, Dr.
John Cenica, Director Jose Mari Chan, Director, Mr. Frank Malio,
Director, Charito Gonzales, Director, Cora Collantes Jose, Director,
Ms. Delia Lopez, Director, Dr. Tess Quirino, Diorector, and
Atty. Sanches. The next year, as part of the celebration of
the country's centennial, Aliw Awards foundation, Inc. presented
its Centennial Awards for Live Entertainment at the PICC.
The first Aliw Awards Night after a ten year hiatus was held in the
year 2000 at the Philippine Plaza Hotel, produced by Ultimate
Entertainment, Inc for the benefit of the AAFI, and directed by
Primeline's Ronnie Henares.
Martin Nievera copped Aliw's top award, that of Entertainer
of the year 2000. Special Awardees were Lea Salonga and
Leo Valdez.
In 2001, Martin Nievera again won the Entertainer of the year title,
his third, making him eligible for the Foundation's Hall of Fame,
the very first to be so honored. Other Entertainers before him as
well as people connected to live entertainment like James B. Reuter,
S.J. had been elevated to Aliw's Gallery of Distinction,
among them Katy Dela Cruz, Rebecca Gonzalez, Levi Celerio,
Diomedes Maturan, Sylvia Latorre, Nora Aunor, to name a few,
but no one until Martin had succeeded in winning Aliw's top
plum three times.

entertainers enjoying moderate success abroad.
Aliw had put up a Tribute to Maestro Rudy Francisco at CCP,
