A step closer to his dream

The seven finalists of Pinoy Pop Superstar were presented to the
members of the press Monday at Ratsky’s Tomas Morato in Quezon City.
The grand final showdown will be held on May 6 at the Araneta
Coliseum where the seven contenders will battle it out and one will
emerge as the Pinoy Pop Superstar.

The seven grand finalists are Harry Santos (Quezon City), Gerald
Santos (Navotas), Aicelle Santos (Manila), Irra Cenina (Pasig City),
Denver Regencia (Davao City), Elise Estrada (Canada) and Rosemarie
Tan (US) who all have the chance to become the newest singing
sensation of GMA-7. The grand champion will get a one-year
management contract from GMA- 7 and recording contract from GMA
Records.

Gerald Santos, the contender from Navotas City, hopes he could
provide a comfortable life to his family. That motivated him to join
the singing contest hosted by Regine Velasquez. He’s turning 16 on
May 15 and it would be an early birthday gift if Gerald emerges as
the newest Pinoy Pop Superstar.

“I really want to win for my family,“ says the teenager whose father
works at the Navotas fish port where his mother is also employed as
a cashier. Would you believe that Gerald has stopped eating fish for
the time being? “It affects the quality of my voice that’s why I had
to stop eating fish for a while. I have to take care of my voice,
especially since the finals of the contest is fast approaching,” he
reveals.

Gerald was only seven years old when he got interested in singing.
The Voltes 5 theme song was the first song he had ever learned and
the one he’d always sing in school. Then he learned to sing songs
popularized by April Boy Regino. He dreams of becoming a
professional singer someday, like his idol Ogie Alcasid. Gerald
knows that to win in Pinoy Pop Superstar would move him a step
closer to his dream. His other favorites are Gary Valenciano, Martin
Nievera, Regine Velasquez, Michael Bolton, and Barry Manilow.

Whatever happens in the grand finals, he is determined to pursue his
dream of becoming a professional singer. He has joined many singing
contests as a young boy, winning some but suffering setbacks as
well. But no matter what happens, Gerald is dead set on chasing his
dream to be a singer.

Is the info I posted about PPS showdown
current good information or was that an
old article that got left on GMA-7s
international web site? Sorry if it
was.

I got an reply in from somone who said
(only now) that he will try to to reach
someone who can join our group and help
with answering questions about the show.

If there is going to be another season
for PPS? I mean for sure because you
never know, right? Especially at this
time when this season isn't over yet.

But if there is another one. I will
make efforts to make sure the same
problems of getting information or
having fan questions asked about the
show ( like its auditions ) will not
happen again. There should be several
people joining the group who would have
some direct ties to GMA-7 at the very
least. If not, then I'm going to resign
as the main moderator and make Regine's
musical director the new one. ;->

( You'd think having someone from Aria
who would be actively involve with
our PPS group shouldn't be a problem.)

Stay tune for updates. Appreciate the
postings that been put out the last
few weeks. I was suppose to get some
of them out on other groups and forums
but haven't been settled enough to have
it done. But it will be. Eventually..

the auditions for the show. Some members
have also tried out for other shows as well.

Good for them. The experiences gained from
it would be a lifelong thing to remember
fondly. Not to regret..
