Subject: "Queens on Fire." - Reg & Pops A Valentine Concert Author: MALAYA / Jan 10 [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 06:59:36 01/13/05 Thu Author Host/IP: 203.213.193.157 "Queens on Fire." - Regine & Pops A Valentine Concert MALAYA January 10, 2005 Chuck Gomez WHILE a lot of newbies can't seem to get enough of the frenetic pace that goes along with the trappings of showbiz, Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez' New Year's wish is to take a little time off. In an interview, she was very open to the fact that she's a bit exhausted. "Grabe, nakakapagod ang 2004 ko," said Regine. "Paano naman, tumodo talaga ako. But don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with all the blessings that came my way last year but I have to take care of myself this year." The blessings that Regine is referring to are numerous. She has three top-rating TV shows: "Pinoy Pop Superstar," "SOP," and the daily soap "Forever in My Heart." In the concert scene, she repositioned herself as one of the country's top female artists in her hit 2-night concert, "Reigning Still," at the Araneta Colisuem in December. Her album, "Covers," released in November, went double platinum two days after its commerical release. She launched her own line of clothing, Reigne, under Sari-Sari. She also released a coffee table book, "Reigne," which features Regine's photos taken by Jun de Leon, live concert photos, album covers, and other studio photos. Although she is determined to slow things down, fans can look forward to a lot of new and exciting things from the songbird this year. In February, she will team up with Concert Queen Pops Fernandez for a Valentine concert entitled "Queens on Fire." The idea to team up Regine and Pops came from Ana Puno, head of Star Media. Dulce Lukban of DSL Productions and Cacai Mitra of Aria Productions both agreed that it's a brilliant idea. "I'm very excited to work with Pops. Actually, we had a show together a long time ago, pero sa ibang bansa 'yun. Ito ang first concert namin togther dito sa Pilipinas. Bongga 'di ba?" explained a very ecstatic Regine. The musical extravaganza will take place at the ULTRA on Feb. 11 and 12. Regine said they haven't finalized the repertoire yet because Pops is still in the States. "Baka sa January 13 pa namin pag-usapan 'yung repertoire, 'pag nandito na si Pops." Regine said "Queens on Fire" will have a U.S. tour on April. "We will be performing in San Diego, L.A., San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlantic City, and Washington. It's really very exciting because Pops and I will be working together for a long time." As for her soap on GMA 7, Regine confirmed that it she will be doing it for only one season. "When 'Forever in My Heart' was offered to me, I made it very clear that I can only go as far as one season. It's an extraordinary experience but I can't handle the physical stress of taping a daily soap three times a week. I also have rehearsals, a live TV variety show every Sunday, and 'Pinoy Pop Superstar' to attend to. As I've said, I have to take care of myself... at the rate I'm going baka bumagsak na ang katawan ko sa sobrang pagod." As for movies, there's nothing definite yet. Regine is supposed to do a romantic-comedy with Aga Muhlach and Judy Ann Santos with Joyce Bernal directing but apparently the project is almost two years in the making and they have yet to make their schedules meet. "Juday is busy with her own soap and of course, her movies and so is Aga. Hindi kasi magkatugma-tugma ang mga schedules namin. Pero I really hope na matuloy na sana 'yung movie." In the meantime, she is gearing up for the grand finals of "Pinoy Pop Superstar," currently a toprater. "I'm very happy because the show is constantly number one in its timeslot." As for her recording career, Regine's creative team has a plan to release "Covers Part II" some time within the year. The album will feature revivals of foreign songs. As for her planned time off, Regine clarified, "Hindi naman [ako aalis sa showbiz] , it's just that I'm working everyday and I just want to have a couple of days off every week, para naman makapag-pa-parlor at shopping shopping naman ako. You know, just a couple of days to hang loose and relax. Pero it doesn't mean mag-gu-goodbye na ako." Pero ngayon pa lang, inuulan na ng intriga ang pagsasamang ito ng dalawang reyna sa konsiyerto. Nandiyan ang mga pahayag na walang maidudulot na maganda kay Regine ang sumama sa isang concert na kasama si Pops. May mga nagsasabi rin na hindi dapat mag-duet ang dalawa sa concert nila, dahil lalabas ang tunay na concert queen at malalaglag ang nagkukunwaring concert queen lang. Pero sa totoo lang, nakapagpapainit ito ng dugo ng mga taong mahilig sa concerts. Kumbaga, mas tumitindi ang pagnanasa nila na makapanood ng isang concert na pagbubuhusan ng atensiyon, pagod at salapi. Hindi na bago ang ganitong sitwasyon sa concert scene. Katunayan, nangyari na ito noon kina Zsa Zsa Padilla at Lani Misalucha, na nagsama sa isang concert, at kapagkuwan ay nagkaroon na ng intriga sa pagitan ng dalawa. Sumigaw sa radyo at diaryo ang mga tagahanga ni Lani, para sabihing mas mahusay ang kanilang idolo. Na siyempre ay sinagot naman ng mga tagahanga ni Zsa Zsa, na nagdepensang wala pa ring tatalo sa idolo nila. Hindi na naulit ang pagsasamang ‘yon nina Lani at Zsa Zsa. Sa kaso nina Regine at Pops ngayon, billing pa lang ay pinagtatalunan na. Pero kung ang titulo ng concert (The Songbird, The Prince of Pop and The Concert Queen Together in a Valentine’s Show) nila ang pagbabasehan, nauna na sa billing si Regine, at sa huli si Pops, na may naghuhumiyaw ang mga katagang The Concert Queen. Hindi pa natin alam at wala pang ideya ang lahat kung paano tatakbo ang gagawing concert ng dalawa sa Ultra. Kumbaga, nangangapa pa ang lahat kung sino sa kanila ang unang lalabas sa entablado at sino rin ang kakanta sa finale. Hindi pa rin solve sa pananaw natin kung may duet ba ang dalawa. Hindi pa rin tayo sigurado kung sino ang gagawa ng mga gowns na isusuot nila. Wala pa rin tayong listahan ng repertoires nila, kaya wala tayong alam kung kanino mapupunta ang mas magaganda at pamilyar na kanta. Parehong mahusay humawak ng mga tao sina Regine at Pops sa concert. Parehong dinudumog ang mga lugar na pinagtatanghalan nila.
