Subject: Two tips in SEO, to give you the best advertising online.

In internet trading one of the most crucial things is to get a strong consistently growing stream of visitors to go to your websites. One of the best ways to achieve this is to get your site ranked high in the search engines for the right keywords. When you have researched your keywords and key phrases and built your site, not forgetting to put your meta tags in place, you launch your site on the internet. Then you start the process of building links to your "pride and joy" from a variety of sources. You post on forums, start a blog, submit innumerable articles to hundreds of e.zines. Perhaps even put your talents to work on "Hubpages". After a while you should see your website creeping up the search engine listings. You may even get it on the first pages for some of your crucial keywords/phrases. At this time you ought to be starting to get some customers. But if you are me, you then make a big mistake. It is in order to tell you what that mistake was, and to advise you to avoid it that I am writing this short article.
I was promoting a really nice website with some very useful programs. The work of building it and putting the programs on, that I felt were the most useful, took quite a time. Everything was in place as it should be. After a few months of posting articles with links back to the site, writing blogs, and posting on forums, my website started to creep up the search engines. Even Google started to feature it on the first page for some of my featured keywords. Then last week it almost disappeared from the search engine results. The website that was on page one, could now not be found on page ten. End of dreams of wealth.
The reason for this sudden slippage was obvious. Unfortunately, not until after it happened. What I had done to cause this sudden decline in my prospects was to change the layout of my site. Originally I had a two column layout, but I noticed that the search engines seemed to only use the search terms from the left hand column, while ignoring those in the right hand one. I decided to change the layout to one single column. That is the only thing that I did. I did not re write any of the text. Nor did I change any of the very useful programs that I was promoting. Next day when I checked my site on the search pages it had vanished. The website that was brazenly swaggering on page one of Google was now cowering shamefacedly on page twelve. As the late great Chico Marx would say, "Whatta mistakea to makea".
So my advice to anyone who is reading this is twofold.

(1) If you use two columns in your website, put your most important keywords and phrases in the one on the left side.

(2) Decide on the layout of your website before you post it on the internet, Dont substantially change it at a later stage. If you do you are looking for problems with your search engine ranking.

If you can remember both of those tips you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
