Subject: Remembering Michael at 70

On October 31, 2006, Michael Landon would have turned 70 years old. To mark the event I am in the process of finalizing a website that will give fans a chance to express their appreciation of Michael’s work and his legacy. The ultimate goal of this endeavor is to let Michael’s family know how much we appreciate Michael’s work and how much meaning his shows still have to legions of fans everywhere. I will discuss more specific details when the site is up and running. So, stay tuned…..

Once the site is up and running I will post a notice about it on as many boards that I know of but for now I am only posting this notice here and on one board for each of Michael and his two other shows.

Michael Landon would have turned 70 on October 31, 2006 and the idea was born to mark the event with a remembrance project to celebrate Michael’s work and his legacy. In a nutshell, the project involves fans expressing their thoughts about (or appreciation of) what Michael’s work and/or legacy have meant to them or such similar sentiment. Since the project will last one year all messages must be submitted prior to October 31, 2007.

The idea seemed simple, but letting people know about the project and then the even more difficult task of somehow collecting messages over an extended period of time from all the fans who wished to participate in the project represented a daunting challenge, if not a logistical nightmare. So, to let people know about the project I will post this message (sorry but it would be too cumbersome and time consuming to try and tailor a message for each site) in as many places that I know of and that will allow the message to be posted. If you know of people or other sites where you think people would be interested in participating in this fan project, please pass this information along to them. To overcome the second obstacle (collecting the actual messages from fans), I have created a website http://www.landonlegacy.com/ (or http://landonlegacy.com/) where fans can go and submit their messages or if you prefer to just email your message the email address is: landonle@landonlegacy.com. I know that email submission is not be the most efficient way of doing this but this is my first time creating a website and it was the best that I could do (I did try many times to get a comment box feature to work but just couldn’t figure out how to do it). Please note that the landonlegacy website was created for the express purpose of collecting fan messages and other suggestions to honor Michael’s memory during this year long celebratory project and that is why you will NOT find any forums, message boards, chat rooms, picture galleries or any other feature typically found at websites devoted to Michael or one of his television shows at this site.

The interim goal of the project is to not only share these messages with one another but to notify Michael’s family of the existence of the site once a decent amount of messages have been posted. Thankfully we do have email access to at least one of Michael’s children. Achieving the ultimate goal of the project depends on whether we get a really good response from fans. If we do, then the idea is to print out all the messages at the end of the project, bind them up in an attractive book binder (with some embossed title on the cover, like ‘Fans Remember Michael Landon’ or something like that --- suggestions are always welcome) and send the remembrance book to Michael’s family.

I hope all fans of Michael Landon and any of his television shows take a moment and join in this celebration of Michael’s legacy by participating in this project.
