Fil-Am Music happenings
www.poptimesmagaizne.com

AFTER the symptoms of “American Idol” addiction gets flushed once and for all, it is very refreshing to know that Filipino-American artists will take center stage in our lives once again. This summer alone, an array of big projects to bolster the Fil-Am entertainment scene is in the works. Here are but a few:

Leyte Benefit CD

Former Rivermaya founding member and guitar virtuoso Perf De Castro, now based in California, will be launching a compilation CD to benefit the victims of the Leyte landslide tragedy. The CD, featuring 14 great artists is in the production stages and is slated for a summer release. Participating bands in the Leyte benefit CD are:

“Nothing left to say” - A.D.D/Dave Aguirre (L.A.) “Goodbye Rye” - BASTI ARTADI/PERF DE CASTRO (SF, L.A.) “Beautiful World” - BEN PALTIK (L.A.) “Field Trip” - BLEUD ((NJ) “Beautiful Pain” - HAPPY ANALOGUES (NJ) “Di Ako Lalayo” - THE KUWAGOS (NJ) “A New Day” - PERF DE CASTRO (L.A) “Better Days” - PIECE OF MINE (L.A) “Manila” - RAINCROWD (L.A) “I think I’ll Try” - RITCHIE LAPAZ (L.A) “Armageddon Man” - RUBBERBAND (NY) “Save me” - THE THIRD ELEMENT (MD) “Devil’s Eyes” - TRICE GOMEZ (Sydney, AUS) “Karma” - ZIGBIN (NJ)

Rock in the Box

On a similar vein, 12 of the best Fil-Am bands and artists will also come together in one album: Soulworks Records’ compilation CD “ Rock in the Box”.

The album will feature 12 original songs by carefully chosen acts from all over the United States. It is the first of its kind here in the US and in the Philippines as well. Yes, the album will be released din the Philippines, a few months after the American launch.

‘It is such a great selection of music from these great bands. Though, mostly rock, some key artists also contributed sounds from a different genre, which is good for the album’s balance and variety.’ says J.G Antiporda, VP of Soulworks Records.

The album will be launched via a New York City gig sometime in late June or early July.

The complete lineup of artists is still being held by the label, and will only be announced in the last week of May.

It’s ‘Pop-times’ once again

Poptimes Magazine, the online magazine about Fil-Am music will go full blast this month.

The eMag will be uploaded to a better server with bigger bandwidth, it will be adorned with a fully functional phpbb forum, where all things Fil-Am music can be discussed., and it will be updated bi-monthly with exclusive interviews of notable Fil-Am bands and artists as well as news coverage, reviews and some fiery editorials.

The people behind Poptimes Magazine believe in the possibility of bringing Fil-Am music to the mainstream. That is why a key feature of every issue to showcase a song by a Fil-Am artist for all the world to hear. The song is free to download and enjoyed.

In the current issue, the featured single is ‘Gusto Mo’ by Jersey band ‘The Kuwagos’.

Artists can send in their press releases or their music if they want to be featured.

The eMagazine was started in late 2004 as a free delivery PDF. It gained widespread support among the Fil-Am music artists and fans alike from both sides of the US – East and West, until it briefly closed for a while due to a controversial guest editorial, which earned the wrath of some key players in the industry.

Now, roughly eight months after it shut down, all is well in the Fil-Am music scene and with Poptimes Magazine as well. You can all visit the website at www.poptimesmagaizne.com.

Fil-Am Music’s Year

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There will be so many releases, events, and happenings this year, the whole community is guaranteed to raise a proud and happy smile.

It is hard enough to pull stuff like these in a highly competitive American entertainment scene. That’s why we should all embrace all these projects and support our very own.
