" Theory why our local movie industry
is dying.. dying.. almost dead.."

Hello bird feathers
and pinoy movie fans,

You know how there's been alot of articles talking
about the movie industry is dying the last few years
and how every entertainment writer has their own take
on why it is happening.. what the causes are .. and
what can be the solution.. but nothing definite ever
comes out and nobody seems to be working towards
seriously figuring the real problems out.

Piracy couldn't mainly be the problem. That was
proven already. Edu Mansano showed that piracy
can't be stopped but it can be contained some
if handled properly.

I have a my own "wild" theory on why the local movie
industry been dying. Its the stories. Something is
seriously wrong with the stories in our movies.

I'll post just one example of what I'm talking about.

I won't mention the movie nor the actors. But some of
you may be able to guess the name of the movie. Below
is a cut of what the story of the movie is about. I'll
let you guys tell me what you think seems wrong about
it. Don't be afraid to speak up now. This is a fan-
friendly artist yahoo group. Regine fans rule here.
And your thoughts and opinions are welcome. -mmJun

( Part of the story .. as told by the actor in it. )

I was chosen as the role really fits me. I play a simple student
who is seduced by her boyfriend, to have sex with him and he'll
videotape it. At first, ayoko. But when I meet a lesbian,
na-influence akong mag-drugs and I agree to have sex with
both xxx and xxxx. What I didn't know, ibebenta pala ang video
nito and it ruined our lives. The movie is based on real-life
stories of coeds whose videos with their boyfriends were sold
in VCD's like `Makati Scandal,' `Dumaguete Scandal' and
other scandalous videos. What I like about the film is
it's experimental. We shot several endings and it's up
to the viewer to choose which ending he thinks is best.

/ --- --- -- >

NOTE: I like the idea of several endings. And the
viewer gets to choose it, eh? That sounds pretty cool.
But back to the story of the movie.. this is just an
example I'm using here. But all the other movies
I seen recently also have the same thing happening
with the story of the movie. Even more baffling
than this one. Well, this one isn't even close.
And it suppose to be a true story? Anyway..
any fans want to give their thought on what
is being noticed with the movie story line?

And I think it could be one of the reasons why
the movie industry has been hurting and bleeding
and given up for dead several times already. It
wouldn't be because making movies are so expensive
or some of the other reasons we all read or heard
about over and over. Because a movie can make
alot of money if it clicks.

And to me it has to be something that is there
happening right now and hurting everything else
with the industry.

Again, this is my own theory from my own
thinking after observing on my own. I haven't
yet mentioned it or got anyone else opinion
but my own. So take it as an exercise for
thinking out among us.

This came out because of what been coming
out in the media the last few weeks about
the movie industry. And it was mentioned
how the industry can't hope on drawing
the movie viewers back into the theaters
by just those annual film festivals we
have around the holidays.

It is also being brought up because of what
I was noticing when Regine's showbiz publicist
got scriptwriter Ricky Lee to do the script
to a story that was used in the concert of
Regine and Ogie recently. Especially when
it became clear about the hidden agenda of
that publicist involvement was to try and
make the long running false rumors about
Regine and Ogie look true.. seem true..
maybe even to become true!

mmJun :-/

And that is not normal showbiz. That is beyond
even those personal attacks against her in the media.

Movie from CloseUp,
big help for local film industry

++++++++++++++++++++++++++
NOTE: Because I'm now on the topic about our local movie industry
and what's been wrong with it the last few years.. here is an
article about something that seems to be working for the business.
It could be because it wasn't just one movie company that was
involve in the movie but also a new producer player found with
the Close Up company. -mmJun :-)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Close to You," the movie that's still packing them in with SRO
crowds across the country, is the shot in the arm local filmland
needs. The movie is expected to rake in more than P100 million in
boxoffice receipts.

Not only is it sending Sam Milby's career into orbit (take note, he
had his start as a CloseUp face and was the star of the "Just a
Smile" music video with Barbie Almabis), it's also helping the
hundreds of people behind the scenes - the gaffers, camera crews,
make-up artists, production and set designers who have been having a
tough time since local movie production has been hit by hard times
and piracy in the last five years.

We're so happy that corporations like Unilever have the imagination
and the attitude to back up our country's very own Filipino talent
with a project that's the first of its kind. CloseUp has proven that
with the right vision, things can happen!

For CloseUp, the project was all about making dreams come true and
they've made it not just for its promo winners who got walk-on parts
on the movie, but also for the hundreds of working cinema men and
women.

The alliance between Star Cinema and CloseUp appears to be a
marriage made in heaven - and we just hope that CloseUp keeps
thinking up new activities that bring dreams to life. Sana mag-
produce pa sila ng maraming pelikula!

*****

Anyone wondering whatever happened to the Darna movie
project Regine was really interested in doing?

:-?
