Viewfinder : Most TV talent searches
are starmaking vehicles in disguise!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Its shocking but its true. With both GMA-7
and channel 2. Shame on them. Its incredible
but three of the former handlers of the SongBird
are involve here. Incredible because they keep
posting in the media that they made Regine and
are responsible for her being the star she is
yet for some reason they have failed up to now
to repeat their feat as so-called professional
talent makers to make anyone come even close
to being a true artist like Regine is. And
Regine-like clones don't count. ;-/

LOCAL TV now features many talent searches and competitions-"Star in
a Million," "Pinoy Pop Superstar," "Starstruck," "Star Circle Quest,"
etc. How effective have they been in developing outstanding new stars?

We've followed the careers of some of their past winners, and can
share these hopefully instructive observations:

Clearly, the singing competitions have created popular stars like
Sarah Geronimo and Sheryn Regis, so they have achieved their
objective. However, these new stars are quickly sucked into the birit
syndrome that has the local music biz in its thrall, so few original
artists are emerging.

Instead, what we're getting are many cookie-cutter, xerox-style
performers with little that's really new to offer.

Worse, quite a number of these new singers are made to act, or host
shows. Mark Bautista was a dud in the superhero flick he starred in,
and Erik Santos is an uncharismatic host on this year's "Star in a
Million" contest.

These young talents are made to believe that all they need to know in
order to host a TV show is read the spiels written for them. Wrong!-
no wonder they do so poorly on TV.

As for the non-singing young stars spawned by the other talent
searches, it's really ironic that, while the tilts are unreeling on
TV, they are subjected to so many thespic tests, but after they win,
it turns out that they're being required to do nothing more demanding
than just the usual pa-cute teen idol shtick.

The biggest successes to date in this regard have been Sandara Park
and Hero Angeles. They did well in the anthology movie they co-
starred in, but their careers have since been put on hold as Sandara
spends much of her time in South Korea, and Hero and/or his handlers
have rubbed producers the wrong way.

Even when they were busy, however, the two teen faves didn't do much
that was particularly remarkable, or even just different. So, what
was all that rigorous "training" for?

Given these perceived parameters, we now see that, contrary to their
pious declarations and exhaustive "development" processes, most TV
talent searches are simply star-making vehicles in disguise.

In the past, young stars were discovered and built up by studios in
annual batches, with rather iffy results in terms of actual star
value generated. The TV talent searches have been more reliably
productive in this regard, which is why everybody is doing it.

TV talent tilts are effective starmakers because they provide
unknowns valuable television exposure that quickly makes them
familiar faces to millions of viewers.

So, instead of subjecting finalists to so many rigorous challenges to
develop talents that aren't really needed in their eventual careers,
the searches should concentrate on the basic performing skills and
charisma factors that really count.

Writer Nestor Torre just telling it as it is once again.
Though he got it wrong once when he wrote about Faith
Cuneta. But that was just Boy Agenda's trying to get
his shadow out of the Regine-Faith intrigues he is
tagged as the one creating. Remember music fans-
it isn't (mostly isn't) the artist who is creating
the intrigues they have with other artists you read
about in the showbiz media. Its their managers, handlers
and especially the person who usually does the benefiting
artist's PR and media publicist. Which in Faith's case
(as well as Regine Velasquez) it is Boy Agenda. Who
uses his own created false stories, rumors and intrigues
for his own benefit in his own tv shows as well as
feed his many showbiz ties in tabloids and newspapers.

Regine fans should know how it really is.

:-/ Its not the way you're being made to
think it is.

One winner who was 'advised' to get a nose job
by managers of GMA-7 ( one of them is married to
someone who is related to the place that did the
plastic surgery. Yeah? Ethics is out the window
with the people who worked with the song bird.
Another relative linked to the same person
mentioned is the one who helped put together
the false tax-evasion charges and no doubt
is involve with Boy Agenda and company in
trying to make their false charges into
looking like they are ligit ones now. ;-/
