P1-MILLION PESO REWARD!

From the Optical Media Board (OMB)
chairperson- Actor Edu Manzano

Edu Manzano said the OMB and the National Bureau
of Investigation (NBI) would grant financial rewards
of up to P1 million for information that would lead
to the uncovering of big-time piracy operations,
especially in the software industry.

THE MOTION Picture Association-International (MPA)
has recommended that the Philippines be stricken off
the United States’ watch list of intellectual
property rights violators.

The Philippines is one of 15 countries that the
International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA)
identified as violator of international laws on
intellectual property protection.

Edu Mansano said the project will be launched
in the second or third week of August.

The PRESIDENT bans sirens, blinkers!

( Along with similar devices that pose
hazard to the public ) By GENALYN D. KABILING

< ------- its about time!! --------- >

After banning them from using luxury vehicles,
President Arroyo has warned all government officials
against the wanton use of sirens and blinkers which
are often abusively used to bully ordinary motorists
and pedestrians through traffic.

The President issued Administrative Order No. 122
directing all government agencies to strictly comply
with a January 1973 presidential decree "declaring
unlawful the indiscriminate use of sirens, blinkers
or similar devices."

A list of OPM signature songs
and the artist behind them.
++++++++++++++++++++++++

1. "Anak." This OPM record with the most cover versions is Freddie Aguilar’s runaway hit that has given him a name and a highly deserved legacy in the history of Philippine Music. His other hits are "Bulag, Pipi, At Bingi", "Estudyante Blues", "Ipaglalaban Ko" and others.

2. "Mga Kababayan." This Francis Magalona record became an anthem among kids and teens during the early ‘90s and positively brainwashed Pinoys to value nationalism and respect for family, making the ‘Lupang Hinirang’ snippet preceding the actual song meaningfully appropriate.

3. "Humanap Ka Ng Panget." More than a decade ago, local music was surprised to hear a strange rap record that combined comedy and simple moral lesson. Andrew E.’s succeeding hits, mostly about green humor and spite on feminism, never equaled the success of his debut single.

4. "Your Love." Alamid said to have considered this song as a filler and an unlikely debut for a rock band. But anyway, the single brought them to fame enough for them to be counted as one of the biggest acts of the ‘90s bandscene.

5. "Ang Himig Natin." This is the song that catapulted Pepe Smith to iconic status. And the rest of the Juan dela Cruz Band will forever believe that this is the song that started the ‘roll’ for OPM.

6. "Kahit Kailan." Jay Durias fans may claim that he has a ‘Jay D. factory’ of hit compositions going for him and South Border. But this great ballad shall remain South Border’s signature track no matter how many times the group change its vocalist/s.

7. "Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo." Many people hailed this song off Yano’s first album (that incuded "Esem," "Senti," "Tsinelas") to be their signature track that laughs out at the pious hypocrites.

8. "Laklak." The now–disbanded Teeth left a very few number of hits but this song will always be associated to their existence, especially by those who can’t get alcohol out of their systems.

9. "Multong Bakla." The Youth made a couple of albums in their short but remarkable stint in the industry and left a piece that sounded truly alternative with a title that hit gays where it hurts. And, yes, even ghosts!

10. "Laki Sa Layaw." Juan dela Cruz Band’s Mike Hanopol proved he had what it takes to go on alone and even create a new word which is now attributed to him. Truly a jeprox!

As I See It: Finally, Arroyo does the right thing
By Neal Cruz / Inquirer News Service

BURIED in the inside pages of newspapers and largely ignored by the broadcast media early this week was the first good thing that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has done in years, and I'm writing about it to encourage her to do more of the same thing. She ordered the sale by public auction of all luxury vehicles bought by government corporations, offices and agencies, with the proceeds to be remitted pronto to the National Treasury.

If only she would do more along this line -- i.e., reduce abuse and waste by her officials to be able to resist the temptation to squeeze more taxes out of the people -- she wouldn't have to manipulate the Malacañang Press Corps and other media groups to get good press.

You can be sure that government officials will try to hoodwink the President and go around the spirit of the order to continue enjoying their perks, such as manipulating the auction so that they would end up buying the luxury vehicles at bargain prices.
