Erik & Rufa address personal questions/ Regine was guest singer
mmJun : Me thinks some of this article was made
to talk down on some of my criticism of the way
Abunda been using bad publicity to promote some
of our artists and celebrities.

Backroom, Inc. talents Erik Santos and Rufa Mae
address personal questions musically in concert

If the concert series of Rufa Mae Quinto and Erik Santos over the
weekend is any indication of how their careers were impacted by
controversies surrounding their romantic relationship, then bad
publicity really is still publicity after all as both nights
of "When Erik Met Rufa" at the Music Museum enjoyed satisfactory
attendance by adoring fans.

mmJun: There goes Boy Abunda trying to justify his actions
of pairing his talents together into one of his showbiz
created false relationships. Aren't they both stars? So
wouldn't fans still attend even if they were a couple?
Because both shows had special superstar musical guests
like Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid too! If the show
was a success without support of Regine and Ogie .. but
they were there. And so you can't say the intrigues sold
the show alone. Any real music manager wouldn't be so
shameless to say they use intrigues to sell a show.
But Abunda isn't really the music talent manager he
was thought to be. He's pretty abusive as one.
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
Erik and Rufa, meanwhile, did not shirk from mingling the personal
with professional via choice of song numbers and spiels.
The repertoire flowed in musical reconstruction of how the two fell
in love and why.
Yes, Erik pursued Rufa and not the other way around as indicated by
the former singing "Kung Akin Ang Mundo" and "Harana." Yes, Rufa
fell— is — madly in love with Erik, hence, "Crazy For You"
and "Crazy In Love."
They even let people in on their term of endearment for each other
by segueing into a ‘baby’ medley consisting of songs with the term
in the title namely "Baby Now That I Found You," Oh, Babe"
and "Always Be My Baby."
And yes, although the two can not exactly put their fingers on why
love happened between them of all people ("Love Moves In Mysterious
Ways"), they acknowledge that destiny played a big hand (‘Love
Always Finds A Way") and that both are willing to learn managing the
ups and downs ("Ordinary People").
As if the title of the concert and the sequence of songs are not
enough to clue people in that the story being told is actually
theirs (Erik’s and Rufa’s), the stars even react indirectly to
what’s on everyone’s mind via remarks like "Salamat sa intriga kung
hindi di mapupuno tong venue" and "Kung mas madami sanang naniwala
eh di napuno natin sana ng tatlong araw ang Araneta Colisuem!"

Hmmm. Thanks to the intriga? Is Abunda admitting that he
isn't a qualified to manage music artists so he has to
resort to creating false intrigues on them? Shame on him..
How about if the public also knew at the same time it
all was put out that it's their own manager who is trying
to fool people into watching the show because he doesn't
actually know how to properly handle and effectively manage
music recording artists. Kyla is a clear example. Instead
of taking the required time to focus on improving her career
as a recording and concert artist, she is put into gigs
like being the host of that kiddie talent contest. Sus!
+ + + + + + + + +
Erik and Rufa are taking all in stride and are not about to lose
their sense of humor-— at least if going by the show. They are,
after all, entertainers expected to smile even when the situation is
not wholly inspiring. Rufa delivered novelty via a divas medley
while Erik did so too albeit inadvertently by singing OPM rock tunes
in direct opposition to his balladeer image.
How each has improved the other is question answered with what was
apparent. Erik has loosened up a bit by wearing sexier clothes that
slightly reveal flesh and follow form. Rufa, on the other hand,
attempts to do songs that show off her range e.g. their duet
of "Come What May."
Spicing up "When Erik Met Rufa" are guests Regine Velasquez and Ai
Ai de las Alas. Regine dabbled gingerly into her own controversies
via a running dialogue between her and Erik regarding description of
her ideal man. Later, upon realizing that she might have bitten off
more than she can chew, ended the spiel aburptly by
saying, "Hanggang duon na lang ang usapan." Asia’s Songbird then
sang "Til I Met You" and "Bakit Ba Iniwan Ka."
Ai Ai was her usual irrepressible self who will hold no cow holy.
Her running dialogue with Rufa "Tell Him" made an unexpected turn
with the innocent question to Rufa, ‘Nag-se-sex ba kayo ni Erik?’
Not about to turn the other cheek and miss a heartbeat, Rufa, with
all candor, replied, "Minsan."
People came to "When Erik Met Rufa" to be entertained.
People left the show also enlightened.

NOTE: The way the article ended with the last two
sentences was not bad at all. hehe.. I like it.
Except people could not have left enlightened
much. If they were then maybe they would consider
suing the show's producer for the refund of their
tickets if they knew they were mislead to watch
on the false pretense that Erik & Rufa are really
in love. False advertising? Since the whole show
seemly centers on that premise- that they were
real as a couple and they will be singing songs
that were especially picked because of it.

Just another shameless music sham to me.
