"I Confess / Little known truths about me"
By LEA SALONGA

( Lea talks alot like Regine in some topics
take note of the one with Bratt Pitt. heh.
Lea is mmJun's other favorite diva singer )

For most of my natural life I’ve been in the public eye, and like
many people in the same boat, my life is quite well documented: When
I was born, what I do for a living, when and where I got married...
even that I adopted a cat. I felt that everything that could be
written about me has, so I was thrown for a bit of a loop when the
request to write "little known truths about me" came along.

Sure, I keep a journal and an online blog (more on that later),
but I’ve never written something for public consumption. For
many nights I was brainstorming, trying to figure out what to
rite. I kept starting and stopping, starting and stopping, but
not really getting anywhere. And then... inspiration! I’m a fan
of David Letterman’s Top 10 List, so I thought to make a list of
a few things that not anyone might know about me, things that may
not have been revealed... until now.

Countdown begins.

10. FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD!!! Ah, one of my greatest joys
in life. I’m lucky that we have talented cooks at Gerard’s
and my mother’s homes, and that many of the restaurants I’ve
been to are absolutely amazing. I have likened a night of
eating at a good restaurant to a religious experience, and
have on occasion asked whoever I was eating with to be silent
so that I can enjoy my foie gras (no offense, but the
conversation can be distracting). Weird, no? I’m not a picky
eater, so I really let loose... which would explain my ever
expanding waistline. Hopefully the mornings at dance class
and spending time with my TaeBo DVDs will make up for my
food consumption.

9. OH MY GOD!!! IT’S BRAD PITT!!! Believe it or not, when I’m
in
the same room as someone really famous, I get super starstruck. As
a person, I consider myself to be confident and not easily
intimidated, but under those special circumstances, I get all shy
and quiet, unable to move. I have collected very few autographs
because of this. I turn into one of those people who discreetly
point at celebrities as they pass me in a hallway, but would never
ask for an autograph or have a picture taken. That takes the kind of
chutzpah that I don’t possess. If I ever saw Brad Pitt in person,
I
would die. I would just die.

8. OOOH, THAT HITS THE SPOT! Don’t ever.. ever.. underestimate the
power of a good foot spa. I love the tingle of peppermint products
on my feet, and the firm grip of a knowledgeable therapist. I try to
get one every couple of weeks... helps to release building tensions.

The hot, bubbly soak to start... followed by a sweet smelling
scrub... then the exfoliation of my legs and the soles of my feet..
and finally, the massage! Ah, at the end of the hour-long treatment,
I’m ready to head home and go straight to bed, with a big smile
on my face.

7. CAPTAIN’S LOG, STARDATE.. One of my good friends in Manila
started a web log, or blog (an online journal published on the
internet) that recounted her days and nights working in Singapore
not too long ago... I thought it was a great idea, as it kept me
abreast of what was happening in her life at the moment... books she
was reading, her cast mates in the show she was performing in, why
one of our mutual friends should be hired by Disneyland Hong Kong
(by the way, he was). Inspired by her blog, I started my own.

Nothing fancy, just an update on what’s happening.. how beautiful
my brother’s wedding was.. great restaurants in Manila (there we
go again with the food!)..

6. MEOW!!! I love my cat. Her name is Max, and she’s a Domestic
Shorthair Tabby (translation: Pusakal). I adopted her from a shelter
in New York; I felt that I needed the company at the time, while I
was in a show and living alone. Our relationship had an interesting
start. When she arrived at my apartment, she hid behind the sofa,
and then under the bed. It took some coaxing (and some good tuna) to
get her out in the open. After a week, she started to meow...
loudly... outside my bedroom door in the morning (that was how she
got me to feed her at 7 a.m.), sat by the front door to greet me
when I came home, and would "talk" to me about her day.

She’s social and friendly, and I miss her very much. I felt she
deserved a special mention here.

5. PLEASE PASS THE TISSUES... I’m a sucker for romantic
movies. "When Harry Met Sally" is one of my (and Rob’s) favorite
movies of all time. It was on TV a few nights ago, and I found
myself in tears at the end. My husband turned to me at that moment
and smiled; he always knows when the waterworks begin. I’m an
incurable romantic, and love the fairytale "happily ever after"
endings. I wish they made more movies like that.

4. THE BOOKSTORE ALWAYS WINS. During overseas trips when I was a
child, it would usually just be my mother and me traveling together.
On these trips, we would invariably pay a visit to a humongous
Southern California shopping mall. She would leave me in a
bookstore, then head off to whatever store she fancied at the
time... two hours later, I would still be there. She knew I
wouldn’t wander off. To this day I love spending time at a
bookstore.. looking through the hardback and paperback offerings,
deciding on what to take home. My last haul included "Angels and
Demons" (by Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown), "One Hundred Years
of Solitude" (Gabriel Garcia Marquez), "Like Water For Chocolate"
(Laura Esquivel) and the final three parts of the "Griffin & Sabine"
series (Nick Bantock). I promised myself to spend less time watching
TV and more time reading, now that I have the time to devote to
some really good books.

3. BO OR CARRIE? Okay, I am a HUGE fan of "American Idol." I never
miss an episode, and was totally into the drama of this last season.
From the first auditions to the finale, I am glued to my TV hanging
on to everything, occasionally screaming my lungs out at the screen
when a contestant begins to butcher one of my favorite songs.

2. NERD ALERT!! I’m a huge techiephile, one of those people who
has to have the latest cellphone, laptop, and iPod, all with
matching accessories. I do thorough research on the Internet
before making a gadget purchase (my favorite site for that is
cnet.com) and my favorite stores in the whole world are the
Apple Store (the ones in Pasadena, Santa Monica and New York City
are really awesome), J&R Music World (New York City, right near
City Hall) and Best Buy (many branches in California).

And the No. 1 thing no one knows about me...

1. NOW WHERE DID I PUT THAT? I have a pretty quick brain when it
comes to memorizing songs and pages of dialogue, but for the life
of me I can never remember where I put my things (purse, pen,
sunglasses), or... remember if I’m coming from or going into a
room, and why. For example... one particularly chilly evening,
I got out of bed to turn up the heat. By the time I got to the
thermostat, I completely forgot why I was there. I then started
to clean up and put things away... then I told myself, "boy,
it’s chilly down here, I’d better turn up the thermostat."
When
I finally turned up the heat, that’s when my memory returned, and
I headed back to my bedroom laughing my head off.

And there you have it... a few little truths about me. Much of the
above seems trivial and maybe even silly, but they do put a smile on
my face. At the end of the day, that’s what life is really about:
Loving each moment as it comes, and surrounding oneself with
happiness. Life is way too short to skip dessert.
