>Bill, can you imagine how hard it is on a retired military man to see a bunch of civilian politicians and pundits pushing for a 'time-table' for withdrawal from Iraq. A basic principal of war, never give a time table for attack or withdrawal to your enemy, much less in the middle of a war.
Last night Jay Leno and Chris Mathews were lauding Obama's visit to Iraq and the sense of getting a 'time-table' for a withdrawal. "They, the president of Iraq want us out of there, so lets get out of there." President Bush and his commanders are doing just that, the brigade of the surge is out of there and more troops are being deployed to Afgan. Common sense dictates that you do not announce these moves, to say nothing of the principals of warfare. In WWII you would have been shot for releasing such information to the enemy!
Common sense and wisdom escaped our Congress over the past twenty years starting with shutting down any futher drilling or building on U.S. soil, Nuclear Plants, new refineries, natural gas drilling. This move was to appease the environmentalist. They went too far, not realizing the gap they caused when they turned off the spigot of our prime energy sources with the stupid idea that alternative sources of energy like solar and wind could take of the slack of our growing population resulting in growing demand.
Now to cover up their responsiblity for our energy crisis, they throw out the old reasons and lies to cover their mistake of the past. Saying the old stuff, oil drilling in ANWR and offshore will not come on line for years, the say anywhere from 5years to twenty, what a coincidence they said the same things twenty years ago. Now the problem will be solved with their restrictions on speculators, granted that is part of the problem but too little for the long range problem that will persist unless we build new nuclear plants, refineries, drill in ANWR...etc Until alternative fuels can catch up, and when that happens then and only then turn off the old spigot!
The left does not give a damn if our country becomes a third world type and no longer a super power. Hell, back in 1995, Bill Clinton told an audiance that "we must prepare for when we are no longer a super power or the only one." I am sure he had China in mind, especially when his administration was passing high tech data to China for their rocket programs. Bill Richerson was Clinton's energy secretary at this time, you might remember they arrested a poor guy, Chinese ancestry American, who was later released after a year in jail, that man sued and won a nice sum. He's still up at Los Alamos while the data that arrived in China was classified a just a mistake and missing computer disks.
The dumb just get dumber. McCain admitted that Congress had let the people down, but the people really responsible and still responsible will admit nothing and just want to go after Big Oil, and throw more money at technology for alternative enery sources. The same avenue we have been on since the 1970's and the solar panals on houses back then until now, wind power has been around for centuries. Congress must get off its hands and do something even if it is years away, then at least we are moving in the right direction instead of standing still and going down the economic drain.
You tell me that if we do go in the right direction that the value of our dollar will not rise? Just the mention by President Bush about lifting the restriction of off shore drilling had an impact on our dollar and our economy. The rest of the world recognized that we had realized our stupidity of the past and maybe, just maybe the United States is on the avenue of success to solving our energy crisis and the world's crisis.
