I spent some time last night with Mike Martin in the trauma on Wednesday. He is doing well. They found out he has broken ribs on both sides and he still has a tube in his chest to suction out the blood and also keep his lung from re-collapsing. It’s really weird. It’s like having a HOLE in your chest with a vacuum connected to it. This keeps NEGATIVE air pressure in your chest cavity so that the lung has no choice except to stay "inflated". You learn a lot talking to hospital nurses. Mike is on 3 pain killers including morphine and a drug that is 4 times stronger than morphine. He is also on some other pills and when he is talking to you....MID-SENTENCE.... he just falls asleep. Its funnier than Dan O'Connell riding a Kawasaki! and that would be HILARIOUS! anyway....Then he wakes up and finishes the sentence about 45 seconds later like nothing happened.
He has a really hard time moving, his chest cavity feels like somebody is punching him from the inside. He’s a really tough guy and to see him in that much pain, even with pain killers makes me think that I would NEVER be able to handle it.
Please keep his pain management, lung inflation, spleen healing and ribs in your prayers. He’s doing well, but not out the woods yet.
