All,
I've been very very very silly and gone and got myself sacked and arrested all in one fell swoop.
I'm not able to go into details right now but its fairly serious.
I'd appreciate any goodwill/prayers/support that you can throw my way.
Right now I don't know when or if I can come back here ..
If I sound a bit "down" then believe me I'm not sounding half as bad as I feel ..
enough about me .. have a FABULOUS Xmas folks ..
Mark.

Debts dets, deats, detts, detbs -they spell it weird... how do you say it in Welsh? ...where's my welsh dictionary gone?? -- Caffi -meaning Café in Welsh... !! so there, 05:13:51 12/06/01 Thu [3] (inktomi2-bre.server.ntl.com/62.253.64.5)
Hello there eveyone,
Thanks for the adivce about kitties that i was sent, it was all very useful and handy, and my kitty is looking puuuurrrrky again!! Huzzah!!
Gina, have you been VERY poorly... you poor thing!! The pictures that you've made are very creative tho!! What drugs did the doctor put you on??? *w*
Ben-Jam-In ohmygodohmygodohmygod!!!!! You never struck me as the debt-ridden type y'know... tho i dunno who does strike me as a debt ridden type... tho i can't be a good judge of character, cos my boyfriend never struck me as the debt ridden type, but he has £3000 in debt... so there we go... i'm sure that Richard Branson has debts too, it's probably how he's worth so much (eh?!!) ...yeah, cos his debts are all loans which he keeps in the bank and pretends they're his fortune, when actually he's very poor, and lives in Leigh Park and eats beans on toast three times a day, cos it's all he can afford.. and biscuits.. he eats them too -they're his one luxury.. .........or something like that... *s*
Anyway, my darling Gina... as much as i love the country that is Wales, i'm afraid that it is not for me... Having lived there for four months i have decided to quit pretending to be Welsh and to come back to the familiar shores that i love so much (???????????) well anyway... the job flow in Wales is more of a little trickle, rather than the all encompassing, impassable roaring flood of jobs and opportunities that wash freely thru the south.... so i'm coming home to get a job and a house and all that kaboodle..
But -ohmygod!!!- have you been to Tenby????
It's gorgeous, and i'll miss it muchly...! *s*
I learned some Welsh whilst i was there (be proud of me please!!) i know: Croeso = Welcome, Araf = Slow, Ambiwlans = Ambulance, Heddlu = Police, Caffi = Café, Ynys = Island, Abertawe = Swansea (and means, "on the mouth of the Tawe river"), and i do know a few more, but my mind's gone blank right now.. i know Fire, Fireman, Post, Drink and Public House.
Unfortunatly at present they're all completely useless cos i don't know how to string them together in a sentance -oops!! *s*
Anyway, i gotta go look at some houses and flats -see where on earth Jay and i can find a dwelling, for less than £600p.c.m. in this area... aaaaahhhh!!!! c'est impossible! (multi-lingual that's me..!! *bg*)
LOVE AND FESTIVE CHEER TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*big hugs*

It's a dirty story of a dirty man, and his clinging wife doesn't understand -- Ben , 04:34:20 12/03/01 Mon [1] (j1-13.isd.glam.ac.uk/193.63.129.123)
The Book is called simply 'The Darwin Awards' and is written by Wendy Northcutt. Here is another story from its pages:
In the 1980's a major cleanup had been ordered for a petrochemical plant. Two people were assigned to remove debris from the top of a oil storage tank, which was large, round and thirty feet tall. Being safety conscious, the workers were careful to wear harnesses and tie themselves securely before removing the debris. Removal involved picking up the junk and dropping it to the ground below.
The team completed most of their task, and was left with one final, particularly heavy piece of debris. It was saved fro last precisely because of its large mass. This was definitely a two man job. The picked up the piece, and agree to pitch it over the edge on the count of three. The first words heard after the word three were something along the lines of 'Oh shit! I'm tied to it'.
A moving story indeed. But I mustn't dawdle, I have far too much work to do if I am to be free over the festive season, for it is now December and legally christmas, which can only be a good thing for expensive toy retailers. Bye

Blah. Okay, where do i start.
Currently its 1:30am,
I am stuck in london. there is, to be blunt, sweet FA to do. I was down for the day visiting friends, and the train was cancelled because of engineering...
Since my last post, Random broke things off with me, resulting in my already depressed self getting far worse, getting suicidal, drinking heavily, bouncing back, falling back down, and kind of hovering in the middle at this point.
I stopped drinking for a while, now i'm starting again.
Who knows where I'll end up next.
Following the breakup, I am back in shitty Gloucestershire, until i can get my life back on track... get a job, get back to London...
Shit like that.
Right now i dunno why i'm typing this.
Hope to see Mistress Em in the next few weeks.... could be fun.
Still going out to LA and San Fran next february... just hoping to enjoy it as a holiday this time.
Erm.
Thats it. I'd write more... but i can't.
-Ash

George Harrison has died.
As I've commented many times before - usually in response to Ben's Beatle song titles - as far as I was concerned George wrote the best of the Beatles songs - "Old Brown Shoe" and "Here Comes The Sun" are two that spring immediately to mind.
He won't be deitified in the same way as Lennon erroneoufly was, but he was far less pretentious and doubtless wouldn't have wanted that kind of treatment.

Paperback writer -- Ben , 05:15:09 11/28/01 Wed [2] (j1-03.isd.glam.ac.uk/193.63.129.113)
You should read this, it's excellent. Clare gave me a book of Darwin award winners (you know, people who perform a service to genetics by killing themselves in a stupid fashion) and this is one of my favourites so far:
A car chase os Sao Paulo was so similar to a Warner Bros cartoon death that it had bystanders laughing out loud. A police car was pursuing a car of gangsters and both began to fire at each other. Suddenly, one of the gangsters had the brilliant idea to throw a grenade at the police car. He pulled the pin, cocked his arm, and in the heat of the chase, he threw the pin out of the car instead of the grenade. The policemen saw the man doing this, and stopped to watch. The hand grenade exploded in the gangster's car, killing him instantly and wounding the other bandits. The laughter of the citizens, the policemen, and the television anchormen was a paean to natural justice.
Now, while I don't know what paean means and I think she rather overdoes the comas, it's still a fine story and well worth printing out and pinning to your wall. Hope you enjoy it.

I've looked around and can't find anything, but surely at least one of them must be out on DVD? I've checked Blackstar and they don't have anything, niether do HMV. And if none are availible on dvd does anyone know if there any plans for them to be released in the format in future?

In case you don't know I live in Hampton Hill, which is under the Heathrow flight path. I suffer from mild asthma and allergic rhinitis (all year round hay fever). I hope you can see why I'm so angry that I can't type properly and my legs have gone quite numb........

there's a specific bit of the brain that's been found to be responsible for cognitive mapping skills in rats (i.e. if you lesion it they can't find their way round mazes), and someone had the bright idea of studying the same bit in humans. There's a specific group of people in whom it's found to be larger than anyone else. Who are these people? Mathematical geniuses? RAF navigators? nope, London cab drivers.
just thought it was quite amusing.
ok, so I'm getting far too into my work.

Well then,
It's getting a might wintery these days huh!! Brrrrrr!!!!!
And so, the Welsh Valleys are looking chilled and... well, chilly! For anyone who doesn't know - i decided that southern england was far too much of a good thing (i've been here my whole entire 18 years of existence and needed a change) and so have moved unto a village called Ynystawe near to Swansea -it's beautiful here!! - very rural... and very cheap!!!
It was taking a while but at last i have an job!! Got it yesterday, start Monday! As a receptionist at a marketing firm that markets travelling!! They reckon i could be looking at a promotion within 6 months too. (which is encouraging) ...
... so i guess that makes me a big girl now then... no more college... no higher education... no school... Ben, does this makes me older and wiser than you i wonder..??!! *tease*
Surely it couldn't be.. but then, you - a student, me - a career forging (nearly) married woman with 3 kits! [Gosh, that sounds so impressive.. or middle-aged already! *lol*]
Jay came over to Wales to visit me, and we and my Mum got carried away. We now have three teeny 9 week old kittys!! AWWWW!!!
Ollie is black and is mine, he's part feral and has ickle cute tufts of fur on the tips of his ears, and looks very elegant and awwwwww!!!
Teddy is my Mum's he's ginger and white and full of energy, he's killing my fingers as i type! -Ouch!! (He's drawn blood in several places now.. little tinker! *s*)
Sophie is Jays' and she's ginger and white and very ladylike.. Sadly she has Cat-flu at the moment and is seriously poorly... if anyone had any suggestions or experience on how to bring kittens thru this we'd be grateful!!!
I hope everyone's well and happy and feline fine! *extra added cheese toppings*

PS: Awww, Babies!!

PPPS: I have socks with toes!! They're mad and funky and i luuuuurve them... and may have to have them surgically removed from my feet when they begin to become offensive!!! *bg*

Barb is doing well and is just as mad as ever. Same we cant say the same about her kids, those poor children are getting more derranged every time I see them. Last time I saw them Marianne was reciting a poem about nose picking and Sorrell was pretending to be a Martian. Pretty normal stuff chez Babs lmao
Barb has also offered that if I ever have any kids (not likely) I can leave them to her in my will so she can carry on the kinda mental torture Im bound to have started off.... Nice or wot? *g*
Anyway, Im fine, rushed off my feet at work, but social life is pretty good, so Ive not been on line a lot really.
Nice to see the return of Ben and Gina to the board, I look forward to a few more punch ups and handbag swinging between those two!!

It's been a hard day's night -- Ben Moore, 04:02:07 11/07/01 Wed [5] (j1-50.isd.glam.ac.uk/193.63.129.160)
Well alright so it hasn't, I actually had a fairly good night's sleep. But I'm bored. Have decided to create a website guide to the internet offerings on Nazi History as one of my history modules this year, which means trawling the web looking for Nazi websites. There are a lot and they are very weird some of them, needless to say. Over 5,000 and that's after managing to narrow it down from an initial search range of over 4,000,000 so it could be a long year.
Ho hum. So it's now November which, I believe, means it's now officially Nearly Christmas, or to put it another way, six more weeks before I get to go home. So that's it, half way through the day and I have achieved precisely nothing, and it'll be time for lunch soon, so I'd better dash. Just a minor point- is there a chat room where you people hang out these days? I have 24 hour free internet access and nothing to do with it, and that seems a crying shame. Oh well, um... bye.
Ben

Poo! as they say.
Travelled back home today, by coach, and train, and another train. Allowed myself the luxury of a taxi from the station back to my house (after all I had an electric guitar and an amplifier in my luggage - very heavy). Then managed - very cleverly - to leave my mobile phone on the back seat of the taxi.

the travelling saga continues... -- fi, 17:38:03 10/24/01 Wed [2] (haymaker.leeds.wwwcache.ja.net/194.82.103.73)
don't know if any of you remember my mad phase of random travelling a couple of years ago, following random bloke across europe, ending up in new orleans, etc etc... well, if you do, and even if you don't, i have news. getting itchy feet again...
well this time it started on new years eve, when i met the man of my dreams. not just some random cool bloke i could have fun with, but someone that makes me so happy i know i want to grow old with him (god that looks really scary written down!) so, yeah, nearly ten months now, but it's all fuct up because his visa runs out this week and he has to go home to new zealand. being the sad impulsive romantic that I am, i scoured every clearance agency for three weeks (back in august, when the flights were ALREADY booked up) and managed to get a flight to auckland for a grand (i'm now officially financially crippled).
So anyway, i'm going over there on the 7th Dec and coming back on the 10th jan. I'm gonna spend about 2 weeks travelling on my own before i make my way to his place, and then spend xmas and new year with him. So here's the thing: he doesn't know yet. I just put off telling him for a couple of days (back in august), and it became this big secret, and now i'm at the stage where i don't know how to tell him.
Here are my thoughts so far:
1.big romantic meal, tell him over dinner, share in his joy, take him home and shag him senseless
1a. variation on a theme: give him his 'leaving present' over dinner, an envelope with a photocopy of my ticket, and then go and 'powder my nose' fo a few minutes, come back, share in his joy, etc.
2. send him a postcard from auckland saying 'see you in a couple of weeks'
The obvious advantage of no.1 is that (selfishly) i can share in his happiness rather than having to imagine it, and that it'll soften the blow of his leaving. no.2 is just soooo much more romantic, but i run the risk of him having signed a nasty work contract for the xmas period and not being able to see him. aaaaaaargh! so what shall i do?
oh the other restrictions are as follows: I can't tell him at the airport because I've agreed to let his best mates go to the airport with him so they can say goodbye, and I can't just turn up (cool as that would be) because his work means that he could be anywhere in new zealand.
so what you you all think?
any crazy suggestions welcome (this means you caff!)
but time is running out, our last weekend alone together before he leaves will be nov 3rd/4th.

1a. variation on a theme: give him his 'leaving present' over dinner, an envelope with a photocopy of my ticket, and then go and 'powder my nose' fo a few minutes, come back, share in his joy, etc.
2. send him a postcard from auckland saying 'see you in a couple of weeks'

I´m back in Blighty this weekend for a week's pre-festive season break, and seem to have filled my time up with reunions. Thanks (a lot) to www.friendsreunited.co.uk I'm seeing about 15 old school and gymnastics club mates on Saturday, and a radio reunion on Wednesday. Apparently I HAVE to see American Pie 2, visit Grandma (no problem) eat food, cook dinner, see Wolves vs Crystal Palace (huh?) and sleep a bit.
Hope all's well in the world with you all.....

Dogs, pah! -- Darryn.R, 07:17:42 09/26/01 Wed [4] (NoHost/62.58.67.210)
Through the early morning mist I peer, straining my eyes to see into the white fogbound distance as I wend my way wearily into work..
There is an eerie silence to the autumnal dawn; figures move around in the half-light like ghosts, they glide on a blanket of cloud, fading mysteriously in and out of view as the breeze mixes moisture and man into a supernatural soup.
I breathe in the dank air, making my lungs feel heavy, forcing the sleep from my body, exorcising my tiredness and rebooting me into the new day..
And then I see the star, the same terrible star that taunts me every day, I try to look away, but the power of the star is too great, like a visual black hole it draws my gaze, it’s gravitational pull forcing my attention to focus upon it as it throbs and pulsates, as it expands and contracts, as it screams into life and belches forth a stream of filthy dark matter upon the fresh dewy grass.
Again, within five minutes of leaving the sanctity of my home, and stepping forth into the world outside, I have born witness to a dog’s pink and puckered poop chute shedding its shit shamefully upon the streets.
Nothing brings you back to reality like a dog taking its early morning crap. All your dreams and happy feelings are cast aside in the face of Poodles poo hole, or a Rottweilers ring piece defiantly defecating on your doorstep.
Now I don’t per say have anything against dogs, just their arses, they disgust me, they trigger my automatic retch reflex, not because they pass fecal matter, but because they pass it in such copious quantities, and pass it everywhere.
Our parks and paths are littered with dog eggs, left by Labradors, discarded by Dalmatians and shed by Shiatsus, and frankly I’m sick of it.
I no longer wish to see dogs in that position, scuttling along with their legs bents, tails on high and unashamedly anally open.
I no longer want to find little ‘dog messages’ littering the lawns of our land, I want them collected by the owners, and I want failure to do so highly punishable. I want the owners who allow their dogs to leave their excrement exposed to one and all force-fed their pet’s pellets till they puke.
I want dog nappies; I want the nether regions of Newfoundland’s covered, the arse of an Alsatian no longer al-fresco but concealed and camouflaged.
No more then shall I see the early morning star, and my life will be just that little bit better, knowing for certain that the soles of my shoes will remain shit free, and that I can happily frolic like a child, in fields free of festering foxhound fecal fossils.

'...with the beaver hats and ben davis slacks!'
Hello Folks of World!
It is I, the person who never calls, the man who never e-mails, the single most forgetful entity on the face of the earth. Mothers lock up you Ottars!
Helli Annie, Wolf (who reminded me of this place. cheers, have a scooby snack. nooch), Gina, and anyone else 'old school' that i might know. and hello to anyone new school also. :-)
I think my last post to a CIB board was sometime back when MIS (the company wolf and I worked for) was still in business. Doesn't time travel fast. Well as fast as can be expected, when you look into the laws of physics that restrain it, and add a pinch of salt and a smidgen of the fantastic.
So What have i been up to. Um... not a lot. Looking for a job mostly. Which has really sucked ass.
Seriously sucked ass.
At the moment I'm three steps from flipping burgers (not rhyming slang). The step i'm currently at is a job at fabric warehouse. which appears to be a refuge for failed students and bored housewives. A bit like the lonely hearts column in the local newspaper. Only less creative.
Things have been tought the past few months. lack of money, lack of job prospects. Lack of anything hopeful.
On the good side, with some of the money i did manage to scrape together, i've got a nice (cheap and second hand, but still nice) little vinyl setup, and am setting about tracking down faboo (and hopefully relatively cheap) albums that i've always wanted. Already spent most of today listening to my first pressing copy of Pink Floyds- The Wall. Nice. I only wish i could afford (and find) a quadrophonic setup. (for those of you too young to know, Quadrophonic was surround sound before surround sound. Four tracks, front left and right and rear left and right, this was used on Vinyl, Eight-track and open reel tape. Oh, the nostalgia. Oh the cost). Currently on my 'to find' list, is more Floyd, The White Album (on white vinyl), and Kula Shakers second album. Oh yeah, and lots of Mike Oldfield.
But yeah.. basically been mooching around the job sites and agencys, begging for jobs. Occasionally bump into, talk to, and generally threaten, Wolf. Spoke to Mistress Em the other day. she can be a tricky person to catch at home. hehe.
Oh yeah, high chance Me and Random will be getting married next year. It'll either be in LA, or somewhere over here. not quite sure yet. I'd like LA. LA's cool, and so many of our friends will be there. My Family have given us their blessing to go and do what we want. it avoids..... unpleasantness with certain areas of my family turning up. make that any areas. Only person(s) i'd want there live in Tasmania, and can't afford the flights over *boo*.
So how is everyone? Is everyone still there? Who *exactly* do i mean when i say 'everyone'?
How do we eat? Why do we eat? and where shall we have lunch?
Oh yeah, saw a first yesterday, the webcast of someones memorial service. Douglas Adams. (it's probably still there http://www.bbc.co.uk/DouglasAdams/ Moving stuff. some of the tales told are very funny tho)
What else... Um. not a lot else really. pretty boring time.
So come on, what exciting stuff has happened in all you hoopy froods lives?
Play safe, have fun, bring your own banjo.
Ash

Well, we've finally got net access back (and indeed a phoneline) ... so I thought I should probably drop by and let you all know that I am now the proud parent of *two* baby girls.
Amy Willow was born on 16th September, weighing a healthy 8 pounds 4, coincidentally exactly the same weight as Sophie when she was born ... and she's just gorgeous, of course ... she looks very like her sister, although she's got my colouring ...and *lots* of dark hair.
In other news, we've moved to Erdington now ... about ten minutes walk from Mia actually, although I haven't spoken to her yet ... into a two bed with a garden, which at the moment has Triffids battling to take over it ...
anyway ... err ... see you lot later

Apologies to Gina, it's not the country itself it's just the distance it is from everywhere else. Sunday is not a great day for my first day back as there is bugger all to do so I am off to rent a video and pray that my loan cheque will be hear tommorrow as promised in order to clear my rather worrying overdraft. Oh well, will settle back in within a matter of days and be back to my normal inert self again, maybe with the odd bit off reading thrown is as this my final year (hooray). Caffine - Congratulations!
Ben - for goodness' sake, why have you been so quiet?
Annie - you've been on holiday, but MUST be back now
Barb - how's life, dogs etc?
Richard "anything in inverted commas" Vince - have you disappeared altogether?
Gina - I really hope life is treating you well
Béla - (waiting for a quirky comment)
Fi - are you OK? You seem a little more leftfield than usual
Mark Vent - you need a holiday!
Drazzi - good to see you're still around, I was wondering
Ewan McGregor - I love you dearly (in a fan kind of way)
Darryn - how's life these days?
Spoot - (maintaining a safe distance from a quiet board) how's life USA style?
Peter Orange - see Richard Vince
To everyone else - surely you have some results to share with us all. I had a former pupil email me today (I taught her when she was 4) and she got all A* A and B grades. She's not 15 till the end of the month. Her brother (I taught him when he was 6) got four A Grades in A levels.I feel quite good about it in a sad kind of way. Another of my ex pupils was 18 today (how old do I feel?)
Tenerife is fine, sunny and stuff like that, but I do miss the banter, questionnaires etc that this site used to put forward.
Then again, term starts soon, so I hope to expect more traffic here....
NIKKI R - I´ve been searching for you to no avail, and have lost your emal address....please get in touch.
Love to you all,

Hullo peeples.. -long time no sees.
Hope you're all well and dandy...!!!
Hey missy Annie, i'm not AWOL.. :D just a bit busy that's all. I've had muchos stuffs to fill my time with, and after a fairly hefty phone bill last quarter, i decided to behave myself and not talk to anyone on the phone or email for a ma-zillion years! *pouty faces*
Last month i had an pregnancy scare -erk! [SO not nice!] ..and disparut for a few days to drink lots and reflect on the diddy bit of fantastical life that i've had, and how quickly it could be f**ked up, by a squealing bundle of pooey-panted, sticky, smelly, dribbly, stinky baby type ick.
And then all was well, and i was ecstatically happy for i had a narrowly escaped by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin! *s*
And now my boyfriend is gone back to from whence he came *blub* ...and i MIIIIIIISS him... but he's already booked my on the next flight to go see him *yay!* ...and will be coming back to live with me proper in about 3/4 months time *HURRAH!*
And the day before he left, he asked me to marry him!!!! ...and i said YES!! eeeeeek... *so happy + excited*
So when we arrange a final date to "do the deed", you'll all have to come and snot lots into hankies and listen to embarising speeches and drink too much champagne and fall over lots and generally have fun and come meet my new hubby!!!!!
aaaah, i'm gonna be a missiz!!!
[We've both told our friends and families, and we're going to wait for about two years til 'the big day' ...so that his sister can get back from Australia and one of my cousins can get back from Japan, and the little girl i want to be my flower girl will be old enough to walk unaided!!! *w* -(she's about 18months old at the moment)] -- so we'll give you all plenty of time to schedule us into your busting full diaries if you'd like to come!!
AAAAAAAAANYWAY... enough of my over excited ramblings,
What's new, very quiet peeples?? ..this board is so quiet i can hear the cyber-wind whistling past it, carrying the dust of yester-years chats.. -nice to see some familiars still visiting tho!!!!!

sitting baking in a portacabin (in the sense of being very hot, not making victoria sponge cake or anything, cos that would be silly, as we have no oven and no running water, and anyway, i have far too much important stuff to be doing to waste time making cakes, which would go stale and yucky in this heat anyway, as we have no fridge, unless i ate it really quickly, which wouldn't be a good idea, as it would make me sick, and we have no toilet)
errrr... I've kinda forgotten what i was gonna say now.
ne'er mind, i'm sure it'll come back to me soon.

Bored today -- barb, 14:34:11 07/25/01 Wed [2] (webcacheB04a.cache.pol.co.uk/195.92.168.166)
Ran out of work and came home early.
This bothers me for 2 reasons as
A) I could get told not to bother coming in again
B) I get v bored and am likely to do something disruptive when bored. Like say "feck orff" v loudly.
Am no longer depressed or stressed as I have sued my previous employers for unfair dismissal and they have conceded before gettign to the tribunal which is always a good sign

Weeell ... things. And stuff. Thanks for the below anecdote, it did raise a giggle. Unfortunately it looks like the Talbot Solara Minx I bought for £20 two years ago will have to be junked, as my grandmother (in who's garage it is currently squatting) is moving to Molton in the Squelch (or somewhere like that) ... and before I've even had the chance to drive it ... *sigh*
And talking about pink elephants as we weren't, Bloss, Sophie, new-sprog-as-yet-unnamed and myself will be moving back up to Brum (Erdington, no less, God have mercy on my soul) next month, although it looks like I'll end up commuting up to the smoke in the week for work. So that should be interesting.
And talking about czchoslovakian traffic wardens as I am occasionally wont to do, Bloss is having contractions. It's v.e.r.y. s.l.o.w. going though and we don't expect him to show up for a while, but hopefully it'll be before we move ...
ver' 'xiiiiteeeeeed!
um, yes.
Love 'n' hugs 'n' badgers with guns

A cautionary tale -- Darryn.R, 03:50:41 07/20/01 Fri [5] (NoHost/62.58.160.52)
As I pulled up to the lights I saw him, sitting next to me in his metallic blue Ford Escort, resplendent with it’s extended spoiler and loud, thick music pumping rhythmically from an oversized speaker nesting above the back seat.
The hubcaps were chrome-covered chrome, and as the sun hit them, beams of light poured forth into the twilight, blinding the small children on the zebra crossing in front of us.
As he sat there, cigarette hanging from his lips, one arm casually hanging out of the window, fingers drumming along in time to the all encompassing bass line he looked as though he felt ‘cool’, and not just normal ‘cool’ either, but the sort of cool normally reserved for the likes of James Dean or the Marlboro man.
He glanced over at me sitting hunched and distraught at the wheel of my prehistoric Peugeot, a sarcastic smile creased his lips, he knew his car was the fastest and he knew he could prove it, he felt good and I was marked down for humiliation at the hands of this motorized messiah.
The engine of his beast throbbed in an almost auto-erotic way, this man and his machine were one, from the furry dice that swung from his rear view mirror to the walnut tipped gear stick he softly caressed, every inch of this vehicle was as well known to him as the back of his own leather driving gloved hand. This was more than just a car to him; this was his soul, his lover and his friend.
The tiny pip-pip-pip sounds of the pedestrian crossing were barely audible above the heady mix of Euro-pop and engine, but the sudden way in which the road warriors stance changed alerted me to the status of the traffic lights which had only moments before drawn us together.
No longer on red, the amber glow of anticipation now shone in through the windscreens of our respective transports.
I sat there, not knowing what to expect, my feet nervously pressing the pedals, fiddling with my gear stick trying desperately to disappear from view…
He on the other hand was as alert as a meercat, his eyes flashed from behind the copper lenses of his driving glasses, his feet were playing the engine of his Escort like a fiddle, the growl of his beast almost seemed to chant “Here we go, here we go, here we go” under it’s sweet exhaust scented breath, taunting me, goading me, trying with all it’s power to pull me into a drag race that would make the Greased Lightning scene in Grease seem like a Sunday afternoon drive in the country.
I pressed hard upon the accelerator, my faithful old motor coughed and wheezed into life with all the majesty of an asthmatic donkey with three legs. From within his metallic blue monster, my nemesis cocked a wry smile and nodded knowingly to me as the light switched to green.
A screech of rubber, and he was gone.
I sat there, unwilling to be drawn into this race, this pointless macho posturing, I sat there, I sat there and watched.
I watched as he pulled away, I watched, as he looked stunned into his rear view mirror, confused by my lack of movement and I watched as he drove straight into the new keep left sign erected that very morning by the men of the council to warn us all of the impending roadwork’s in progress.
As I slowly pootled by his crumpled car, I was semi-relieved to see that although shaken, he was still alive and well, but no longer cool, no longer a man and machine in perfect harmony but that he now had the look that he deserved, the look that fitted him, he looked like just another sad, fuckwitted boy racer who’s luck had just run out.
I mean after all, boy racers are ****s aren’t they…
Some days are just so worth getting out of bed for.

For Thems That Didnt Know .... -- Mark., 11:28:25 07/18/01 Wed [1] (NoHost/213.86.15.17)
Amnesty International announce the release of the two Comedians featured in the We Know Where You Live show action.
Amnesty International welcomes the release today of prisoners of conscience U Pa Pa Lay and his cousin U Lu Zaw, two Burmese comedians known as "the Moustache Brothers", and their colleagues U Aung Soe and U Htwe. They have been the focus of widespread and sustained campaigning by Amnesty International members around the world for the last five years, and represent the second high-profile release out of six cases highlighted by Amnesty International for its 40th anniversary.
"We are delighted that the four, who have been imprisoned since 1996, have finally been released. We hope that they can soon return to the business of making jokes and entertaining the Burmese people without fear," Amnesty International said today.
Thousands of Amnesty members around the world have called for the release of U Pa Pa Lay and his friends. The international campaign has featured performances by famous fellow comics, articles in national newspapers, Myanmar embassy vigils, a joint action by the Body Shop and Amnesty International, and a play performed by high school students in their honour. Local Amnesty International groups in the UK, Belgium, Canada, Faroe Islands, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, USA, and Sweden, have worked tirelessly during the last five years on their case.
The two comedians, U Pa Pa Lay, 49, and U Lu Zaw, 45, were sentenced in March 1996 to seven years' imprisonment for one of their comic performances. U Htwe and U Aung Soe, two political activists who arranged this performance, were also sentenced to seven years' imprisonment.
On 4 January 1996, the anniversary of Myanmar's independence from the UK, U Pa Pa Lay's Anyeint troupe, a traditional Burmese entertainment group, performed for a celebration at the home of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in Yangon (Rangoon, the capital). She is the leader of the main opposition party National League for Democracy and is currently held under de facto house arrest.
In their routine U Pa Pa Lay and U Lu Zaw joked about government cooperatives as thieves and sang a comic song about Myanmar's generals. Following the performance, they were arrested after they returned to their homes in Mandalay. U Aung Soe and U Htwe, two NLD members who had arranged the performance, were also arrested.

Just a few of my faves ... =D
"When you find me here, do not think me to be lonely, simply alone"
"Ride your dreams, like ballons in an effervescent sky"
"Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings; sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. hovering there i've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. up, up along delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew; and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand, and touched the face of God."
"Plant impossible gardens.
Look forward to dreams. Cry during movies.
Swing as high as you can on a swingset,
by moonlight. Cultivate moods.
Do it for love. Take lots of naps.
Take moonbaths.
Giggle with children.
Listen to old people.
Drive away fear. Play with everything.
Entertain your inner child.
Build a fort with blankets.
Get wet. Hug trees. Write love letters."
"To feel valued, to know, even if only once in a while,
that you can do a job well is an absolutely marvelous feeling."
"Our greatest glory is not in never failing but in rising up every time we fail."
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit."
"Dream like you'll live forever - live like you'll die tomorrow"
"The Road goes ever on and on,
Out from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
Let others follow it who can!
Let them a journey new begin,
But I at last with weary feet
Will turn towards the lighted inn,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet."

soooooo... here's the condensed update since...well, where do i start? ok, lets go for january: i met the man of my dreams. didn't realise it at the time but luckily he was very persistent and didn't give up on me and we're still together now and doing that sickly lovey dovey coupley thing i never thought i'd do.
but its all gone pearshaped for a few reasons, and i might be losing him for good in a couple of weeks, something which neither of us have any control over *sob*
so i thought i'd arrange a *fabulous* weekend for us, 'just in case' the horrid stuff happens, and booked tickets for gatecrasher at the nec... but now nasty gatecrasher has cancelled my order cos they were oversold, and also all the hotels in brum are booked up *sniff*
going back to college on monday, haven't done any work, got 5 tutes in the first week back and aaaaaaaaaargh! its all getting on top of me.
and i've just burnt my toast
and i really need a bath and our water is turned off
but hey, i'm a firm believer in the 'everything will turn out ok' principle.
my 21st bday in 4 weeks, and its gonna be fab. not sure what i'm gonna do yet, but you're all invited once i get my arse in gear. probly drinkies somewhere in oxford or london. eeks i don't wanna be a grown up!
anyhoo, gotta get off to bed now, must work hard tomorrow, i've gotta analyse a whle load of data about peoples bowel movements, mmmm.

Well, the day got off to a good start this morning, when I was nearly run down by a bus outside of Oxford Station. The bloody thing actually swerved towards me! Can you believe that? Needless to say, as soon as I got into the office, I was on the phone to the bus company. Or rather I would have been, except that nobody at their end was going to pick up the damn phone. So, instead, I wrote a lengthy email letter of complaint. In the afternoon I received a reply from someone at the bus company asking me if I could describe the driver. I mailed back and said, No, I couldn't - I was too busy trying to run for my life and avoid being splattered into the tarmac to take note of the driver's facial features.
Yes, this is an extract from my blog. Just thought I'd share it with you all.

Sooo yeah, time to Christen the new board with a Beatles entitled message, even though I'm somewhat opposed to organised religion and I don't particularly like The Christian Church. But hell, it's only a figure of speech.
So weird week and I'm in a deeply odd mood now after a rather edgey meeting on wednesday (although in fairness it would have been a lot less edgey if I hadn't been there getting cross). Apparently virtually none of our 30 plus sketches are funny, and apparently you can tell this without even seeing them performed and apparently even though were are aiming them at an audience of students, a couple of lecturers twice our age know definitively what is funny. I suppose it's a bloody good thing we have them along to guide us in the wrong- sorry, the right direction. It may or may not be entirely evident from my message but I have been slowly calming down since yesterday evening, I am very pissed off for a number of reasons. Sorry to have to bore you with this but I have to bitch and somebody and you are, in a sense, a captive audience. Oh well... 10 more days and I'm out of the whole! No offense Gina, there are some lovely parts of Wales, but there are also some parts which are fully of students and lecturers with no sense of humour. Do bear in mind this is only my side of the story though...
So it's mixed news from Camp Glamorgan, as the Romans called it, but I have been making efforts to download an MP3 of John Cravens Newsround, which can only serve to cheer me up. Cya later.

So... LET'S HAVE A HEATED DEBATE!

1 - favourite flowers?
2 - favourite era (style wise) + why?? [example: the 20's with Art Nouveu]
3 - What music have you mostly been listening to recently?
4 - What's the most recent thing you've bought, are you pleased with it and why did you buy it?
5 - Think of three colors that you love the most, choose one for work, one for play and one for everyday! -which is which and why?

Dear Tripod Member,
We apologize for the removal of your site over the weekend. Due
to some technical errors, we mistakenly removed several member sites
and are in the process of restoring them. We did not single out
you or your site, please accept our apologies, your site has now been restored.
Sincerely,
The Tripod Team

- It wasn't actually my site... it was Sherri's, although I am responsible for the HTML, etc. Sherri told me that she had an email from Tripod saying the site had been deleted because it violated guidelines. I was only repeating what I had been told. So, why did Sherri get this email if it was all a technical hitch? If the site is restored, I think I might just change it to a re-direct page to the new Sherri & Gina site on our new domain name. Tripod do seem a little unstable. (NT) -- Gina Snowdoll, 02:09:23 03/20/01 Tue
- Gina, beats me, some new green kid at Tripod probably tried to play 'Frogger' or 'Quake' on the system, and sent out all these scare mongering emails... (I too, was freaked out and well pissed off by them)... I'm going to move to a new host myself... buying space and domain names today... I'll keep you posted (NT) -- Darryn.R, 02:44:29 03/20/01 Tue
It's not just you Gina.... -- Darryn.R, 00:51:40 03/19/01 Mon [5] (NoHost/62.58.160.52)
Gina,
You are not alone, The Moon and S Club 7's secrets have also been taken off the Tripod servers, and also with no warning...
If anyone wants to mail on my behalf as well, just follow the link to The Moon and S Club 7's secrets from the main bees site.
Of course, this could all just be some hideous error on behalf of Tripod, we will just have to wait and see....
Gina, good luck with relocation :-)

I'm still fuming at www.tripod.com's decision - or rather the Lycos Network's decision - to delete the Sherri and Gina website because it allegedly "violated guidelines". What absolute nonsense. That site violated NOTHING. It contained some fun photos of Sherri and I - some glamourous, some silly, but nothing offensive - and a few What's New items aimed at the TG community. The site had been running since early 1998 and had never received any complaints. There was nothing offensive in it - simple as that. Tripod shutting down this website are just proving that they are tranny-unfriendly; this is a kick in the teeth to the tranny community. I think it's far more likely that one of their employees is extremely narrow-minded and/or homophobic, because we did nothing wrong. Some of the good people over at the official Eddie Izzard message board have sent emails of complaint to Tripod. If anyone reading this wants to add their voice, please email: abuse@tripod.com.
Thank you!
Gina

Carnival! -- Maggie, 08:02:42 03/09/01 Fri [9] (modem5.atlantis.es/195.76.69.54)
So.......
It's *that* time of year again, when the salsa band sets up on my terrace (almost) and they play until 7 am from now to Tuesday. Fairground rides in place, noise noise noise! Still, I chose to live here, so mustn't complain (but woe betide the British business playing until midnight - they get closed down, no less!).
Good to see a new board thriving so soon after its conception (is that what happened, was it conceived - I have no idea).
I'm having a little supper toworrow night to celebrate carnival, so if you can get over here, it's at my gaff, 8 pm. Wine, nibbles, and then off to the fair type stuff. Call The Travel Shop now on 0034 922 79 37 18 to get a flight!
have a good weekend!

Can I say phew ... because that other one was all weirdy beardy ... and also offer one pointer I have learned from experience of the other voy boards : Allow HTML in the replies as well as the messages. That way, when someone (me) inevitably cocks up it can be put right ...
On the other hand I have managed to get Apache for Win32 to accept Rexx as a CGI scripting language (tech speak, don't let it worry you) ... so expect a fully custom made Spoo board sometime in the near future ... not that it will garner any visitors, cos I doubt I have nearly enough imagination to make it interesting ... um yeah.

Well,
The other board I made seemed ironically to both suck and blow, so instead I opted for the Voy Inside the web format board.
Join if you wish, I would certainly like it if you did, but the choice is yours at the end of the day, and Friday I guess is the end of the day for the old Inside the Web board.
A familiar format, just missing the familiar names.....
