Subject: I am so sorry AMC fans......

Hey Gang,

As most of you know, I am updating more on my Facebook page, but I wanted to stop in here and let you know that it's a done deal. I have been telling you in nearly every column I've written in the past 6 weeks that AMC was a dead ship. I even prefaced it the first time, by saying that I know you have heard these rumors in the past, but that this was a real fire and no smoke.

In addition, I told you about a meeting that was held a few weeks back where they were brainstorming on ways to save AMC and OLTL. Apparently, they have come to a decision. I hope I am wrong. I really would like to be wrong, but I am getting confirmation that AMC is gone. It will be replaced with a talk show. I have not been given further details. I suspect any merging that takes place now to be certain actors handpicked to join the remaining ABC shows if they so choose.

I told you that Tyler Christopher was out last Monday in my 3/14/11 column (no riddles), and that has now been confirmed as most of you know. The same person, who told me about Tyler Christopher, Brian Kerwin, Rebecca Herbst, Ingo Rademacher, Vanessa Marcil, and so many more, is the one who gave me confirmation earlier today about the fate of AMC. I was just given further confirmation by a surprise source this evening.

Sometimes the messenger can be bummed, and that's me right now. I was told that we would be lucky to see OLTL make it past 2012. I guess General Hospital will truly be the last one standing. My heart goes out to the fans of AMC (and I genuinely mean this). I am so very sorry guys.

An announcement is coming soon (let's hope it's that they have had a change of heart). Anything can happen in this industry as you know. For now, it looks incredibly bleak.

Oh and many have asked me about that piece I left regarding a major shake up at ABC that nobody would see coming that did not involve the actors, and yes it was Guza. It is still Guza, and that retraction by one of the magazines was actually very amusing (and rather telling).....

I should have a new column out by Sunday or early the following week (since I surprised you guys, and put one out early this past Monday).

I hope everyone manages to have a good week despite this sad news. I really am truly sorry.......

If I am wrong, I will be celebrating with you!

Hugs to AMC fans everywhere.......

I want to say that I'm sad, but it means nothing to me. The show has been in the toilet for years now, and it's not AMC that's getting cancelled, it's the Cameron Mathison-Rebecca Budig show. AMC left the canvas looooong ago.

Ah Raven, this is terrible. I've watched AMC from day one with my mom - it was my first soap. This makes 3 I will lose in what? - 2 years?

I kind of figured once the writers from GL and ATWT went to AMC it was the death knell.

*Sighs*

I too watched GL and ATWT until they were kicked off the air. But when their awful writers came to AMC it was obvious something was rotten - why hire writers who can't write.

As for AMC going off the air, having been through it twice, as you did, I'm braced for it happening again. I think all soaps are in jeopardy of being replaced by game shows or talk shows; they're cheap to air, and there seems to be an audience for them. Not sure WHO, but they must exist.

I appreciate RB's commitment to telling the truth, regardless of how it's received. It's better to know what's ahead of you than be blindsided. Thank you RB; your time and effort has been greatly appreciated.

It's a genre that will end with our generation. For that I'm sad.

I cannot believe they are going to do this...while i understand that money is probably a big issue here perhaps if they scaled back a little bit and stopped hiring all newbies and used the talent that they already have they wouldnt have a financial problem..if they were in trouble why would they go through the expense of packing up and moving to CA..i cant see how that move benefitted them financially..and what about the fans that have been loyal to them for years..i have been watching all 3 abc soaps for over 40 years at least, and i am really pissed that they would even consider doing this..i find it hard to believe that there isnt some way to circumvent the outcome they have obviously come up with if AMC being cancelled is already hitting twitter..Most of the shows my husband and i watch are on ABC even in the evening, but i'm so disappointed in ABC that i may have to start getting myself interested in some of the other channels for fear of ABC cancelling more of the day and evening shows that we enjoy watching.

I'm not surprised this is happening...just that it appears to be happening so soon. I figured that after all the money they spent to move the show to California, they would give it 2-3 years to turn around. I've watched this show since the beginning, so it's very sad to see my "friends" leave.

I started watching AMC in 1978 when I was in a rehab hospital after having been hit by a car. I've watched it off and on ever since then. I've never watched any other soap - I mean, watched it enough to be able to keep up with it. I agree that the quality of it has gone downhill in the last few years, but I've still watched at least part of it. I'll feel like I lost an old friend.

Horrible news but not surprising. You have been warning us for weeks about this possibility so I was prepared. Soaps are a dying medium. As more people enter the workforce, the fewer households we have watching live. With costs high and returns low, it comes as no shock the networks are cutting their losses. It must be terrible for the people who have made their living off this medium. I feel badly for them.

Thanks again for the update Raven. You are the best.

This truly is sad to hear. Years ago, I was so sure that these soaps would be around long after I was gone.

I still remember being home from school sick in the 70's and watching AMC for the first time with my mother. It ended up being something we did together for years to come.

My fingers and toes are going to remain crossed in hope that this may not come to fruition.

I am sorry to hear AMC, if true, is gone. I am, however, not surprised since Frons seems to have LOVED Babe and Rylee and many fans hated them. Gee, wonder why they lost viewers? Instead of letting AMC go they needed to let Frons go - but no, he got promoted. GH barely survived Guza and, even if he is gone, I really wonder if GH can survives Frons. Disney - get someone who actually knows the soap world and fans! Fast!

My gut told me when they moved to LA it was the last nail in the coffin. I think they will just use the AMC space for the next talk show du jour. And really how many more talk shows to people have to endure. They aren't interesting or engaging. Just beucase it is cheaper doesn't make it better. Does this mean the head of ABC's wife gets a talk show now.

[> [> Re: ABC daytime -- Huh?, 07:55:24 03/23/11 Wed [1]

Raven just made it pretty clear that she was talking about Guza, and hinted that the retraction from SOD was funny for a reason!

If Raven doesn't mind, I will post this from her facebook page. The minute that bogus scoop came out, Raven addressed it right away over at facebook. This was posted by Raven this past Sunday around 4PM (within minutes of the fake MB scoop being passed around).

I wanted to clarify something before people begin asking me about this out here (I'm already getting e-mails). I have not heard anything about Maurice Benard leaving General Hospital. I did tell you in my first column back that Vanessa would be leaving (and she is). I have not been told that Maurice is leaving. Please keep in mind that I am given tidbits only (never a play by play). This does not mean that he won't be leaving. I just don't believe in claiming credit for something that is not mine. If it happens, it will certainly change the face of General Hospital in a big way, but it did not come from me.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday! XOXO!

I loved Ryan with Jillian but when he returned he became unlikable as the resident airhog and I stopped caring about him.

Loved Greenly and Leo but again same thing she made me sick when she became a Ryan stalker.

Once I left the show I'd occasionally check in but I found no reason to return.

The days of The Duchess, Linc, Kelly, Benny, Brooke, Tara, Philip, Ray Gardner, Opal, Billy Clyde and were some fine times. As a young mother home with babies AMC was my adult time. So long it was fun while it lasted.

Fairwell AMC.

Thank you Raven.

Raven, first of all, thanks for the timely updates as you get them for those who aren't big on facebook. Quite honestly, i like columns that are come out sooner than expected that just contains your exclusive news as opposed to including a summary of everyone else's spoilers. Those are available everywhere else and i like seeing your column focused on what makes it unique.

What irks me is that ABC is already deciding to cut these shows loose before even waiting to see what affect SoapNet's going off the air has on the ratings. Many people watched the ABC soap lineup on SN in the evening - and those are numbers not represnted in the ABC daytime airing numbers. I'm sure if those who watched on SoapNet were counted, they'd know how much higher their viewer count was...and they should have waited to see how many of the current SN viewers switched back to the ABC airings and how those numbers may have changed.

Though i'm not an AMC fan myself, i feel all fans of any of the ABCD lineup really need to lend their support since the moment one's gone, it sets in motion a domino effect that makes it easier to get rid of the others.

We also need to support OLTL right now. Rally for its continution while we have more time instead of waiting til the 11th hour.

There are six (and if AMC goes, then that's five) soaps left. These are beloved American instittions and one of modern society's only examples of serialized storytelling with decades of history behind it (comic books being the only other type of example). WHAT ABC - AND FOR THAT MATTER ALL THE NETWORKS - NEEDS TO DO AT THIS POINT IS LOOK AT HOW TO KEEP THEM ALIVE rather than completely gut the ones left. Instead of cancelling them, when their time to take them off the daytime lineup has arrived, they need to reformat them as primetime shows. Serial dramas are very successful in primetime - the shows would join the evening lineup with an already existing large fanbase (some of which is already used to watching during the evening due to SoapNet) and each show could actually benefit and thrive in the primetime weekly format with the higher budgets and smaller production schedule allowing for more time and care for writing and shooting.

Too many news sources and sites have echoed what you warned us about. Too many scoopsters who have said the same thing about AMC being canceled. They are trying to do damage control right now. I have a feeling we will get an announcement before the year is out. I think you are still on the money with this Raven (and you are in good company). Other news sources have reported the danger that AMC is currently in! They are using the cast now for damage control because they know we won't buy their denials anymore! Something is happening, and it's not going to be good for AMC fans no matter what spin we get (and aren't these the same actors that are told to deny they are leaving the show even though they are)? Yeah right!

I'll stick with you, Deadline.Com, Popeater.Com, Daytime Confidential, and others that have been trying to warn us!

[> [> Re: The spin has already begun! -- Ravenbeauty, 07:47:37 03/24/11 Thu [1]

I know....rather obvious isn't. They certainly did not hold a meeting over me (I'm small potatoes for them). They held a meeting because it's on every news site and spoiler site for a reason. All of these sources telling other well known sources of information the same exact thing, and there is nothing to it? That's like trying to cover the sunshine with one finger. If there were no truth to it, nobody would need to have a meeting! The fact that a meeting was even held would be enough to concern me! These people work closely together on a daily basis and would already know if there was nothing to be concerned about. They would laugh it off in the halls or during rehearsal. Apparently they were concerned enough to do damage control from within which is VERY Telling. Too much smoke from too many directions for there not to be a true fire. I also noticed one of those tweets after it was brought to my attention where a performer from the show said that AMC is not being canceled, but quickly added that we should write in to see that it doesn't happen! Need I say more!

Reminds me of so many ABC denials over the years. My favorite was from a spokesperson at AMC who denied that Ambyr Childers was being replaced. I had it in my column and it was refuted by ABC. The very next week it came out that she was indeed being replaced as Colby! I guess what surprises me the most is that people still believe these denials without entertaining the obvious.....

In any event, nobody wants to see AMC go because I think it would create quite the domino effect (and I adore Susan Lucci).

This is what was written on another site:

For several days, published reported have indicated that ABC would be announcing All My Children's cancellation at any time. Though the network is not commenting publicly, the cast of All My Children has been told that the show is not being canceled -- but that doesn't mean that fans should become complacent.

For several days, All My Children fans have been rocked by rumors that the 41-year-old soap would soon be going off the air. With each passing hour, more and more media outlets seemed to pick up the story. Officially, ABC did not deny talk of AMC going dark and its non-specific response to the rumors did nothing to lessen fans' panic.

"The [Deadline Hollywood] piece is just another story in a long line of stories about this same topic again and again," a network spokesperson told soapcentral.com earlier this week.

Now, soapcentral.com has learned that All My Children's executive producer, Julie Hanan Carruthers, has assured castmembers that the cancellation rumors are just that -- rumors.

"AMC is not being cancelled," Bobbie Eakes (Krystal Carey) informed fans via Twitter. "But now is a great time to let the network know you'd like to keep it that way."

Eakes was the first All My Children castmember to speak up about the rumors. Denise Vasi (Randi Hubbard) also posted that All My Children "is not cancelled."

Later, Days of our Lives star Eric Martsolf (Brady Black) informed his followers that he'd spoken to his former Passions co-star, Lindsay Hartley (Cara Castillo; ex-Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald, Passions), and also heard that All My Children was staying put.

"AMC [is] not going anywhere folks," Martsolf wrote. "Just talked to my girl Linds. It's all good."

Though the statements that AMC is not in imminent danger of being canceled might temporarily calm jittery nerves, it does not mean that the show's record low ratings should be ignored. For the week of March 7, All My Children drew just 463,000 viewers in the women 18-49 demographic -- more than a third lower than the comparable week in 2010. Overall, for the same week, AMC had 2.32 million total viewers.

Some skeptics, however, have noted that then-executive producer Ellen Wheeler was reportedly blindsided by CBS's April 1, 2009 cancellation of Guiding Light. Wheeler had been under the impression that the show would be renewed for another year.

In 2009, after months of cancellation rumors, ABC announced that it would move production of All My Children from New York to Los Angeles to help lower its production costs.

"The move to Los Angeles enables both All My Children and One Life to Live to dramatically improve the series production models and achieve significant efficiencies while enhancing each show," Brian Frons, president of the Daytime division of the Disney/ABC Television Group, said in a statement at the time. "We had to examine every option on the table to combat the current economic realities, and rising costs of production, and we are doing it in a way that makes each of our shows stronger."

Still, rumors have persisted that All My Children has still been operating over budget -- even after the move that was designed to save it money.

AMC stars including Eakes, Vasi, and Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake Martin) have taken to Twitter to tell fans to let ABC know that they want the show to continue. Fans are urged to call 818.460.7477 for ABC's automated feedback line -- and then enter the following numbers at the prompts: 1, 2, 3, and 255. This will allow fans to leave a recorded message to express their love of All My Children.

Raven, can you tell us more details about Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo? When exactly is she leaving. She signed a 2-year contract with option to leave after 1 year. It sounds like the option was hers, not ABC's. Do you know her contract details? Also how well was she paid -- more or less than Tony Geary? Also, does Vanessa want to leave or does ABC want to write Brenda off the canvas?

Secondly, there have been rumors of Maurice Benard leaving in 2011 or soon -- possibly with Vanessa Marcil. Do you know if Sonny and Brenda will be written off the canvas together? Another other details of these two actors and behind-the-scenes gossip on Vanessa's 2010-11 return?

Thirdly, has Vanessa been given credit for improving ratings DESPITE Guza's bad writing and Maurice's poor acting? (I believe firmly that Vanessa has thrown herself into her scenes with lukeward reaction from Maurice -- who anyway has looked bored on GH for years -- and with a misogynist storyline from Guza. She's been great, but got dealt a bad hand!) Last time Vanessa visited GH she brought 800,000 viewers and this time took a while but she brought ratings to a 4-year high.

I cannot believe that some people at SOC are actually blaming you for giving them a heads up on something that is obviously underway! All the sites out there have been saying exactly what you have been telling us about AMC, and you are the only name that comes to mind for these people! Can you say AGENDA! One very well known site said that AMC was being canceled with an announcement coming in 24-48 hours! They only want to rake YOU over the coals!

Do not let it get you down. Something is fishy here, and it is not you! Most of us believe you for a good reason (not just, because we like you either). You have been knocking them out of the park for these ungrateful twits! Rebecca Herbst, Brian Kerwin, VM, Tyler, Dante never sleeping with Lulu, Jess turning into Tess before anyone even talked about this, and so much more! I am not going to laundry list because it is a waste of time. If they are dumb enough to believe this latest spin, they deserve the shock they have coming! You reported honestly, and so many of us are grateful to you for making things fun and interesting again! I know you put your ass on the line for us and we appreciate it!

I believe you have the correct information. After what happened with GL and ATWT, I'm not surprised by what anything the networks do. With GL, there was so much spin that the show as going to continue only on April 1, 2009 to be cancelled.

I bet the AMC actors are concerned, but they can't speak out yet.

I bet the hammer will fall in the next few weeks

[> [> Re: I am so sorry AMC fans...... -- Trubble, 08:02:20 03/25/11 Fri [1]

It feels so familiar -- just like GL's cancellation was leaked, then denied, and then finally admitted. Remember how the cancellation was announced on April 1st, and we thought it was a joke. Well, it's almost April 1st, and I suspect the announcement will be made very soon.

If the rumor were truly unfounded, I believe ABC would have stepped forward and put the "rumor" to bed. Because they're silent, I'm convinced it's true. It's sad, but true.
