Subject: Update On A Few Things...........................

Hey Gang,

I have just heard from my sources that warned me that all of this was coming, which is how I was able to give fans a very early heads up. They are informing me that although ABC is feeling the heat, Disney is laughing us off completely. That we are going after the wrong monster. We have definitely made progress, and our voices are being heard loud and clear, but I am hearing that Disney feels very untouched by all of this because we haven't been aiming for the heart.

Disney does not care very much about ABC (they never have which is evident). The network has been spiraling out of control ever since. Hear tell they would like to unload it. They are feeling the heat from what we are doing, but apparently Disney is laughing us off since we are not affecting them directly (go figure). The person who has been giving me so many incredible scoops over these past several months is warning me that although we are putting pressure on ABC, we are not attacking the real monster. Disney needs to feel it the most or it means very little. This means addressing Disney's sponsors as well as ABC's. This means focusing a little more on Disney themselves, and their products. We need to contact the heads at Disney, and tell them that we will no longer take our families to Disneyland or Disneyworld, and will not buy their products or services any longer and why (which is our right). We have been doing some very good work here (and have made progress), but we are only giving them flesh wounds when we need to be aiming for the heart. From what I was told, Disney finds this all very amusing, even though ABC does not. If we get to Disney, it will trickle down to ABC with some real force. Time for a brainstorming session here. I am not sure that I will be able to get a column out as I usually do by the weekend with all of this going on (It will probably be late and run into next week). Sorry, but I have to choose what is most important now (and I have given you a few mini updates on my site in between).

In addition, my head is spinning from the massive rewrites, and people exiting early as well. This is going to be a nightmare for scoopsters everywhere (sites included). Crazy stuff going on now. As I warned you a week ago, GH's fate has been sealed so don't let ABC play you into thinking what we are doing will hurt them, it's done (if they get a year they will be lucky). For now, a list of Disney Executives to contact regarding the situation. Please do not be disrespectful or nasty to these people when writing them. Write heartfelt letters on what the ABC soaps have meant to you, and how you will miss Disney and their parks as a result. We need to contact the advertisers from the Disney channels themselves (anybody that get's any of the various Disney channels would be a big help in that respect). Think of Disney products of any kind that bear Disney's name. You know that I am always honest with you (I do not pull any punches). My sources have been on the money throughout this whole ordeal, and I believe them. For now a list of the heads at Disney. I do not have addresses yet so if anybody wants to poke around, that would be great (we may have to snail mail these people). What is most important are Disney’s direct advertisers. It's called freedom of speech, and we have a right to it. I'm crunched for time, so this will give you a start....

Disney's Contacts

These shows mean something to millions of Americans. They are part of the heart and soul of America. They are beautifully scripted stories that have enthralled viewers for many generations. They are doing away with a way of life here. This is not about just canceling a show. We have nothing if not our voices. Let them be heard loud and clear. It is our right under the constitution, and we are choosing to exercise that right in spades!

I wrote the following on Hoover's wall at Facebook (incredibly touched that a a company as big as Hoover still believes in values, integrity, and most importantly, hasn't lost their soul). Thank you Hoover!

You are doing an amazing thing here. You have shown people everywhere that your company stands for something more than just the almighty dollar. What you have done took a lot of courage and strength of character. So many of us are proud to call ourselves customers of yours today. What ABC is doing is based solely on greed. They w...ere not losing money. They were not going into the hole here. They did this because they are greedy and soulless. These shows mean something to millions and millions of Americans. They are richly woven into the very fabric of America. Now the wonderful actors who have entertained us for years will face an industry with nothing but reality shows. Many will be unemployed for extended periods of time. All that will be left for them are scraps. This was not a business decision. This was a bargain made in hell, and viewers want no part of it.

Finally, a fabulous blog by someone I truly adore because she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside (Cat Hickland). XOXO!

I just looked on the Disney site: I think this is a person we should target from the board of directors. Check out her bio:

Susan Arnold
Director since 2007

Susan E. Arnold, 57, is retired and was President—Global Business Units of Procter & Gamble from 2007 to 2009. Prior to that, she was Vice Chair of P&G Beauty and Health from 2006, Vice Chair of P&G Beauty from 2004 and President Global Personal Beauty Care and Global Feminine Care from 2002. She has been a director of McDonalds Corporation since 2008. Ms. Arnold has been a Director of the Company since 2007.

Elizabeth, perhaps tell them that why you are choosing to no longer support Disney as a corporation and how you will be pullling your support. Will you cease watching programs on ABC, ESPN, all the Disney channels, SOAPNet, and A&E? If so, why? Will you stop purchasing related merchandise like Winnie the Pooh, Disney Princess', movies, television shows on DVD, clothing and apparel, dolls, toys, games, etc? Will you stop going to any and all theme parks owned by Disney and their cruise line? Will you stop supporting the companies that choose to advertise on Disney owned networks, and if perhaps you should contact a few of them and tell them exactly what you tell Disney? Will you stop supporting the companies that the members of the Board of Directors for Disney represent like Proctor and Gamble, and Apple?

It is a good idea, because the magazine shows are all produced by other studios.

Targetting advertisers is a good idea. A marketing win for the product. The summer has low viewing levels. This will allow them to replace $'s in the fall for Holiday spending.

Also might consider placing ad in ADweek if we are going to target advertisers. I am writing letters, because it is a business conflict for me. But all who have loved these shows over the years should help out in whatever ay we can.

Thanks Raven for letting us know about all of this. It may feel like a thankless job at times, but you are appreciated.

Here's a link to a list of the Disney Board of Directors:
http://corporate.disney.go.com/corporate/board_of_directors.html

Steve Jobs of Apple is on it, perhaps if enough people say they will boycott Apple products, including I-pads, I-pods, I-phones, and Macs so long as he is a member of the Disney BOD that might get his attention. The BOD can have a great deal of influence over a company and its decisions. Not that this will likely save the ABC soaps, but given the callousness of late with which Disney has treated its ABC employees and fans... And from a company with a reputation for being great to its corporate employees too.

May I suggest having your family event on a Carnival cruise (by the way I'm not affiliated with them)? My family and I went on 2 cruises & loved every minute. They are very affordable. There's stuff for kids, teens and adults. Plus, if you told Disney you were booking with a competitor it would get their knickers in a twist!

Raven-You are on target with advice. If a real buyer shows up Disney would be happy to dump ABC. FYI, Disney PR strategy is run by Zenia Mucha who has a reputation of being a bully. Her advice to Iger is most likely is to punch back hard at the fans and the Hoover's of this world and bully then into submission. Here is the catch 22 if Disney does not suceed in bullying viewers into submission, the value of the franchise will decline and the Board of Directors will have to act. You are correct in targeting the board, comprised of well regarded former and current executives (Steve Jobs, Sheryl Sandberg, highly regarded COO of Facebook and the former Chairman of P&G who is the Disney Chairman of the Board). The Board will not be happy with Disney taking no prisoners and bully viewers, particularly if it hurts the franchise. Here is some bio info (you can google her).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Zenia Mucha is Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications for The Walt Disney Company. [1]

Mucha is "in charge of all media relations, financial communications, employee communications, and corporate positioning" and "clearly a big part of how Disney handles sticky corporate situations, including the fights with Miramax over Fahrenheit 9/11, where she sparred with the Democratic [sic] Weinstein's for six months in the press," Matt Stoller wrote September 10, 2006, for MyDD.

Zenia Mucha was "perhaps the most feared woman in Albany during the [Governor George] Pataki years," SUNY's Alan Chartock wrote 2006 in AmeriQuests. "Mucha worked in the same job for Senator Alfonse D’Amato and she clearly believed that the press is not the friend of the politician, that you use them when you can, you never trust them and you keep the people you’re working for away from places where they can make mistakes."

"Zenia Mucha was Alphonse D'Amato's Karl Rove and she is a bitch on wheels. Spreading lies comes as naturally to Zenia Mucha as waking up in the morning. You can't have integrity and be Senator Al's top aide," Mrs Panstreppon commented September 2, 2006, at The Carpetbagger Report.

"Disney, meanwhile, is working to overcome the beating it took from the media during the contentious final months of Michael Eisner's tenure, when PR chief Zenia Mucha brought a new level of bullying and antagonism to the company's communications strategy. Mucha was even exposed in court for lying to the Los Angeles Times about a dinner party Michael Ovitz had thrown for Tim Allen—a low point for Hollywood-media relations," Ted Johnson and Jill Goldsmith reported February 5, 2006, in Variety.

Some various things...

Even though the fight is moving on to Disney as a whole, we still need to keep the pressure on ABC - as people within the industry will be watching and taking note. It's still important to target sponsors of the soaps.

AND SPEAKING OF SPONSORS OF THE SOAPS, the #1 most important thing to remember is that the soap's sponsors are the Good Guys - they are the ones who allow the shows to happen. I've seen too many people talk about boycotting the sponsors of AMC/OLTL and that's 100% WRONG and the VERT LAST thing you want to do.

- OLTL/AMC sponsors need to know that we will boycott them later if they advertise on Chew/Revolution. But until we know that they're doing this, they have our full SUPPORT for being a OLTL/AMC sponsor.

- If a company like Hoover, Hershey's or Target does decide to take a bold action like pulling all their ads from ABC or several/all Disney-owned properties, that's marvellous ***BUT*** they STILL need to sponsor AMC/OLTL during their remaining time on the air (AMC/OLTL should be the exception.) If they pull out from AMC/OLTL too, then it messes up the entire message and purpose: the whole reason they're taking these actions are in support of these two American Institutions and their viewers so pulling their support from the soaps themselves hurts the very thing they'r/we're trying to protect.

- We also need to continue outreach to other places that may potentially allow AMC/OLTL to live on in some form or another since Disney is hardly supportive. We should also remember that even if these shows are given a venue to continue, the format may be different...they may end up being given new life as primetime dramas for example (even though primetime is also affected by reality shows, no one can make a serious case that primetime dramas are "dying") and the shows themselves would actually benefit from bigger budgers, more exposure, backing, and a streamline cast/story arcs and production schedule that allows everyone from writers to actors to directors to breathe and take their time instead of being on a treadmill that doesn't stop.

- Although a screen continuation - be it daytime, primetime, cable, internet, whatever is the best solution, if an on-screen continuation does indeed end up being out of the question, OLTL fans need to concentrate on getting OLTL to continue in book/print form...don't forget one of OLTL's all-time best headwriters was Michael Malone who was an acclaimed novelist before writing for OLTL and has continued his book career since (He also wrote the OLTL tie-in The Killing Club as if it was written by Marcie Walsh). If i can't have OLTL onscreen, i would dearly love it to continue in Malone-penned books (or a serialized internet story). This would also give MM the artistic freedom to write for OLTL without network interference filtering his vision! We need to get Michael Malone and his frequent partner, Josh Griffith involved!

- As someone who worked on Save Farscape, the best thing i can pass on is that even if our actions don't ultimately change things within ABC/Disney, they are being observed by other people within the industry which may be our ultimate champion. What bought Farscape back was not the SciFi Channel itself but rather a consortium of investors who were intrigued and touched by the waves the fans were making and gave Henson/Hallmark the financial backing to make its miniseries.

[> Couple more things... -- DWinPhx, 14:22:33 04/21/11 Thu [1]

A couple more things i meant to put in my last post but forgot to before sending...

- A lot of Disney's products are aimed at the teen market...and OLTL's enjoyed excellent demographics in females 12-17. It's a good idea to bring in the young'uns in our efforts!

- THIS IS A MAJOR TALKING POINT: Disney has built its reputation on creating iconic projects with longevity and accessable to multi-generations. If Disney can so callously disregard the American Institutions like AMC/OLTL are, what does that say about how they view any of their other properties? Could they bury Winnie the Pooh or The Muppets for example if they get tired of them and don't feel like they're relevant anymore even if millions of fans still do? Any property owned by Disney (especially ones that were the result of an acquisition) should be worried about their place within Disney Co. if they're so willing to cut off American Icons at the drop of a hat.

I said days ago that we needed to take the fight to Disney. I'm just glad that others are getting onboard with this. We need to stress just how anti-family and anti-tradition this move is. They value their reputation as being family centric, so that's an area to focus on bringing it out in public. In everything that I've done so far, I've always refered to it as ABC/Disney so there is no doubt.

[> Re: Update On A Few Things........................... -- tvcity6455, 04:12:08 04/22/11 Fri [1]

When I contacted Bob Iger, I cc'd Steve Jobs and highlighted AMC's move to California only to be canceled as something that bothered me. I pointed out that Disney is a family-oriented brand and that uprooting families only to cut them off was not in line with this brand. I acknowledged that running a business sometimes meant making not-so-popular decisions but that this was over the line. I think focusing on this conflict with Disney's family brand is something that will be a strong message to sponsors, many of which are naturally also family-oriented brands.

[> Hit up the travel agencies for support -- Anomynous, 05:00:37 04/22/11 Fri [1]

I think people should target the travel agencies if they want to get at Disney. Go after AAA, expedia, hotels.com, etc. and other agencies that promote Disney in both Canada and the USA.
Tourism is obviously a big money maker for Disney so it seems to make sense.

Hi Raven I really have missed your Spoiler, and Rumors your the best. I know that you're very honest, and are very fair in writing.

I used to look forward all week long just to read your spoilers. I'm really happy to be able to read your column again.

Yesterday I emailed Comcast and told them how upset I am over ABC/Disney canceling AMC and OLTL. I asked them not to add Disney Jr to their lineup because Disney is planning to replace Soapnet with Disney Jr. I also told them that I am boycotting ABC (with the exception of soaps) and Disney. Everyone should contact their cable or dish provider and ask that they don't pick up Disney Jr and ask that they unbundle Disney programming so we don't have to have them included in our cable package. Even if we don't stop the cancellation of our soaps we can let ABC/Disney feel our pain by boycotting their programming and their products.

So many celebrities love soaps too. Rosie O' Donnell, comes to mind. How about appealing to some of these celebrities to help us. James Franco, anyone? I'll bet you can think of others that love their soaps. A stink needs to be made...a HUUUUGE ONE.

Disney Channel is aggressively promoting the MAY 6, 2011 graduation episode of SUITE LIFE ON DECK. Any protesting soap fans who are parents (or aunts/uncles, grandparents, siblings, etc.) of SUITE LIFE viewers should find other activities for that evening to keep down the ratings for that episode.

Attend an ABC protest rally in your city!

http://protestabcacrossamerica.com/CONTACT.html

Work on your locals too!

-Call your local media and advise them to help give voice and cover the protest/boycotts/complaints about cancellations.
-Make flyers and post them everywhere alerting people to the MISTAKE that ABC is making.
-Prepare soundbites for fast media and keep their attention on this unacceptable decision.
-Make Slick message Vids and spread them to viral status. Post links everywhere.
-Contact students and groups at universities, hospitals, homes to stand up and be counted. All ages matter.
-Get Creative and let your voice be heard.
-Phone, Fax, Email, Twitter, Website and message board postings - UNRELENTING-BE HEARD
This is it. Grassroots. It's now.
A challenge to the Corporations that have decided they know what we need instead=The CHEW and The Revolution
It's unacceptable. Think about it. These are not acceptable replacements. Give options on keeping soaps or come up with something BETTER.

How about writing something for the editorial page of your local newspaper? Let everyone know what's going on, and who to write/call to.
